OP can't be serious. Hes not buying a new rig. Hes pulling everyone's chain. But, in the odd case that he is serious, then i'd go with a 3930k like you said you were already set on. I have a hard time believing that it won't be fast enough for along time. You can expect a safe and easy to manage 4.2-4.3ghz with a cooler like H80 or H100 for long duration work loads. It will last long enough for Ivy-E prices to finally fall to something more reasonable than the release prices. Remember, the first release of the Ivy-E will likely be expensive as hell and might be labeled an extreme chip for $1,000.00 It might take another 3-6 months for the $500 part to release. Ivy-E is a year away....

If you really want socket 2011 Buy a used socket 2011 set up with a 3930k atleast.

Hokiez problem once again is I need 64GB RAM I need 8 dimms I need 2011 because Im going to upgrade to Ivy E when it comes out probably Q1 of 2014 I guess.

It sucks I would get the 3770k if it were 2011 , but I cant.. my options are limited to 3 processors... 3820 and 3930 hexa and 3960X hexa...... I cant afford 1k chip... the 3930 looks attractive but its almost twice the price of a 3820. I saw someone OC their 3820 to 4.6Ghz by moving the Bus up .......... since multi is locked.... with proper voltage, cant I do that. I just want sandy speed, but I need a 2011 for future I can buy a 6 core Ivy E

The two statements I bolded above just don't jive with one another. When IB-E comes out, you can be sure that you will be paying $1k+ for it...?

Why pay twice as much over a 2600k or 3770k and a high end 1155 board for about 10% more performance ?

Seems like a bad deal.

What is that supposed to mean. whats CT ?
Your "Location" says "Glendale, CA". What is CA?

What do you need the 64 GB of RAM for?

If you have endured with Q6600 this long and have limited budget, would you really both spend a lot money now and upgrade again soon? That would be change of behaviour. Save some money for unexpected repairs too, for you do know how computers can have problems, don't you?

I use Sonar X2 Producer and it is x64 HT app. Why 64GB well then I can put on my Kontakt libraries into ram for quick access. I know my current project that has a hold on it until I get this new rig. Its using 7.5GB ram and I would use another 16GB just for loading samples, then you have the project..... I would say 32GB is enough,, but in future I will put another 32GB same ram,, make it 64GB.......

I will never buy used PC hardware. Because I bought this used P5K when mine died and its eSATA doesnt worok firewire doesnt work, and it cant OC well and you cant change OC options or no boot........

Never buy used I dont care if I save 70 dollars... So I learned my lesson and told myself never buy used and I won't.

Some people are trustworthy, but if you'd rather have new I can't fault that either. I'm to the point now where I mostly buy new as well.

There is a diff between used, abused, and antique hardware. Old MB's are a gamble for the most part.

Can't blame tweakboy for wanting the 3930k and that much ram and such a upgrade, like he said 5 years has been enough and he skipped over the core 2 quad q9000 series, the 900 series i7 chips.

I remember my buddies telling me i wasted my money replacing my e6750 back in 2007 with a q6600 as no games took advantage of it,oh UT3 took advantage of quad cores and 5 years later, every game coming out does and perhaps in 5 years, most games will take advantage of that 3930k much more then the 2500k chips of today:p

Actually I got the 3820 to save 300 dollars, then Im going to buy Ivy Bridge E in Q3 of 2013.

If I got the 3930k I have no reason to upgrade to Ivy Bridge E ..... but I got a CPU where in a year or two if I get 100 percent usage when audio engine is on for sure Ill get the Ivy 6 core 12 threads. No point doing it now cuz then Ivy E comes out and Im stuck,,, I spent 600 dollars on CPU already I must keep it. But getting the 3820 ,, it will be a nice upgrade going to Ivy E hexacore. thx gl
