Well I gave it a try but I am worried about card stability. Temp really jumps up with any gaming or such. My temp seems to jump up into the 60's C with CS Source. At Idle it runs in the mid 30 to mid 40 C. Is this ok, to be expected. I am rather new at modifications and this is my first computer I built. Here are my computer spec's. Any help is greatly appreciated, oh by the way i toned down the core/memory of the card too 490/540 till I feel more comfortable with the changes and have a freind look at my system. Thanks again for all the good info in the forum and any help I can get.

Pentium 4 3.0 ghz with XP
Abit VI7 board
Kingston Hyper X 512 DDR- 2 of them=1G of DDR
Radeon x800 Pro with samsung 1.6ns and ati rage theatre chip
Creative Audigy Sound Card
The case has installed on it 5 fans with the average case temp around 35-40 C and the CPU around 30-40 C.

Let me know if any other info would help. [oUtLaW] JonDare.

I think if it runs fine you don't need to buy a new PSU.

If heat is the problem, then get yourself the ATI Silencer 4. This baby will cool down your X800 XT (PE).

BTW prices are in CDN but you can find the cooler in any US retail store.

Looks like a good idea. My only problem seems to be the video card temp, I dont have any corruption when it is running at 70 degrees "C". Yeah I said 70 C, lol. So is this a really high temp for the x800 pro or an average or high average. Will look into the Silencer to cool it though, thanks. [oUtLaW] JonDare.

You can also use ATI tool to speed up the stock fan. The fan runs at 65% or so and never speeds up in my system. If you speed it up your temps will drop. But you know, a lot of people are running 60-70C anyway. I wonder what temps these cards are rated to run at- anyone know?
Mine runs at 53C under load. I think the stock cooler must have good contact with the core, or something...

Hi Guys,

This forum has provided an endless amount of info... but I need a little more.

I am in the market for a x800 pro vivo card and I want to do the x800 xt mod--- but..

I need to know if anyone can provide a list of cards this will work with.

Some of the manufactureres call the x800 pro (vivo ) cards different things.

Specifically-- what cards make/model etc will this work with ?
Can anyone confirm what make/model cards have the 1.6ns memory (for best results ??>

Thanks

Tbird

well, i tried testing the card (16p and 520/560) with far cry. i had a fresh unpatched install and started playing right from the start. the tunnel that you go through in the beginning of far cry had some wall-like textures partially blocking it and then some of the crates in one of the cabins inside the carrier had some missing textures. other than that, the game was as smooth as a baby's ass. i played for an hour on very high settings and when i exited to windows, the overdrive panel was reading 63°C (i kept the window open during the game with overdrive disabled). of course, it took maybe a couple seconds to exit from far cry, but i'm sure the temperature never touched 70°C. the card idles at 37°C and this is with stock cooling. btw, i used this bios :

X800 XT PE (AGP) 256 MB - Date compiled : 2004-04-30 17:24

this bios was the exact same file size as my pro vivo. so should i consider the card to be stable or should i still play around with the clocks in order to take care of those textures. thanks for all the help so far guys.

Sadly my computer doesn't have a floppy drive, is there an alternative way to do this? There's a program to easily flash BIOS for motherboards, but I've yet to find one for video cards. I'm well aware that floppy drives are $7-10 and it's a pain in the arse to get up, walk to a store, buy floppy drive, come to back to install it. I'll use that as a last resort if I have to though.

Any help, Mega Works?

This is abit odd 'cause most of the scores I see here after flashes are quite a performance gain, but still less than most X800 XT at stock. I have a X800 XT on alternate computer (and a X800 Pro flashed to XT PE on this) and I got 12300 exactly clocked to 528/528 on 3DMark03 and 5829 on 3DMark05 at X800 XT PE stock speeds.

Your score seems ok!
