Hi,

Im thinking of getting an X800pro and flashing it to an X800XT-PE, but im alittle confused about afew points atm (i have tried to read through most of the pages in this topic)

1) To BIOS flash the X800pro to an XT-PE I would need a Sapphire X800pro VIVO, it will not with Non-VIVO and lesser brands
2) Since its a Sapphire wouldnt it be better to use a Sapphire BIOS? Or is the Gigabyte BIOS better made?

Thanks for this thread.
I found a used Sapphire X800 Pro VIVO retail for $350., locally. I'm now running at XT PE speeds with 16 pipes! :)
I ended up using W1zzard's method instead. If you use his modified flashrom you can go back to 12 pipes if necessary. But the Gigabyte flash tool will leave you stuck with 16 pipes, even if they don't all work. Also, W1zzard's method only requires flashing once. I flashed directly to the latest X800 XT PE bios, after backing up the default bios, and it worked great.
Edit: I got 5801 in 3DMark 2005, with highest quality settings. Temps are 59C after one hour of Doom 3.

That's why you have to backup your bios before doing the Gigabyte bios transformation, if anything goes wrong switch it back. The software mod is very safe if you backup your old bios. :)

Here's a quote from W1zzard's site:
"Several people have used a Gigabyte Bios and flashing tool..., but for some reason you can not flash back to 12 pipelines with this method- if you have defective pipelines you keep them."

Yes. You should take the same steps as if you were installing a new video card.
I uninstalled the ATI drivers and control panel via Add or Remove Programs, booted into safe mode and used driver cleaner and then flashed.

Luck of the draw, really. My BBA x800 Pro had VIVO and 1.6ns RAM, thus I was able to unlock to 16 pipes, although running at 515/500 only (might change when I get an ATI Silencer... one day).

I'm sure that the ATI Silencer will help a lot.

Thing is, I'm not sure if $40 CDN can justify the performance gains, assuming I would be able to hit 520/560, or beyond (at this rate, highly doubt the "beyond" part). On the other hand though, I take it my x800 will have a longer life because of it (logically speaking)? Not only that, it looks high-tech too. :p

Kinda short on money right now, so it's definitely not in the picture. Would be nice if prices went down by a reasonable amount by the time I do, if ever, decide to get one.

Does anyone know if this will work with a Sapphire X800pro VIVO Toxic? Do they have their pipelines cut? Will the flash get rid of any of the Toxics software features?

Hi there y'all !!!!!
Just wanna say that I've got a asus x800pro tvd and It's now a x800xt.
Thx for the help
Ps: one thing i've noticed is that the temp rises quite quickly now although I think that for best performance lower the core to 500 and mem to 550. Played a couple of hours after the mod was done and never got more than 77c so that's great!
Thx again!!!!!!!!

Ps 2: oh I forgot to mention... The gigabyte bios didn't for some reason active the missing 4 pipelines only the second x800xt bios did it.

Before i flashed the card i run the atitool 10min @ 525/565 whit out failure.. score 10900

I will come back later whit updates

Well it's up to you Gza to decide, if you think that $40 CDN is to high for you then wait till the prices go down.

Hey guys im thinking about getting a sapphire x800 pro and flashing it to the xt suing your method i just want to know if the flashed "xt" will run with my 4x AGP motherboard. The card comes compatible to my 4x card i jsut wanted to know if flashing it to the XT and changing it's bios will make it incompatible with my motherboard. Thanks in advance

hey guys, i have an ati brand radeon x800 pro which seems to have all the features of a VIVO. it's got the samsung 1.6 ns ram, rage theatre chip and the yellow connector next to the power connector. well, i tried modding it following the instructions exactly as they were listed in the first post and used the ati x800 xt bios instead of the gigabyte. everything went ok and i was able to install new drivers, but when i open atitool, it says 520/560, BUT ONLY 12 PIPELINES. i thought it was a "proper" VIVO card which should have taken to the mod. SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP!! ANY SUGGESTIONS ANYBODY!! THANKS.

To flash directly to the ATI bios you have to use the modified flashrom here. If you use the Gigabyte flash utility you have to flash to the Gigabyte bios first, otherwise you won't get 16 pipes as you just found out. People flash to the ATI bios after flashing to the Gigabyte bios in order to improve overclocking potential.
I think its better to use the modified flashrom because you can flash back to 12 pipes with it if the mod fails. With the Gigabyte flash utility you will be stuck with 16 pipes.
