1 - Illegal aliens who are here have no pathway to citizenship what so ever. I've actually known a few who thought they were going to get green cards via marriage.. showed up at 26 Federal Plaza and were deported.

2 - Those who are actually let in surrendered to authorities for an Asylum claim but are in the backlog.. so technically they're in limbo, neither illegal, nor legal.. just asylum case pending!

I think I told you of a friend's story.. his parents immigrated legally but his case file got lost and he had to wait 21 years to get his green card.. it's not a made up lie for dramatic effect.

Parents green card 1986. Parents citizenship 1992. But Kid's green card 2007 and kid's citizenship 2013! (that's how long the actual backlog is due to the archaic immigration system and visa queues)
