TressFX is not free for DX9 cards. Now , there are not many left out there(dx9,10.1), but they are there. AMD is down on market share? Are 100% of those dx11? or capable of running dx11 fast enough to be playable. A real problem with first generation dx11 cards of even the highest tier. I'm pretty sure, some gamers still choose the less intensive .exe in some cases.
But I guess, if you have a o/c 7950 or better, which is the only AMD card some seem to think exist, then I guess you can run dx11 and all it's features!

I think that they're definitely going to shoot for this on consoles. Maybe to a lesser degree than you can achieve on pc, but if they can squeeze this out it should hopefully be able to run on mid-range hardware. If I have to choose between this and AA, then, well... guess I'll have to see how good that hair looks![]()
Another piece of news that came out at the same time as the TressFX announcement was that the PS4 is set to use Havok GPU accelerated physics for all titles from licensed developers. That's the reason why I said PhysX is dead if Nvidia continues to wall it off from competitor hardware. Not because of TressFX.

That's the reason why I said PhysX is dead if Nvidia continues to wall it off from competitor hardware. Not because of TressFX.

How much growth for Nvidia, exactly, at the expense of a collaborated open source physics engine development that would have rendered Intel's Havok 90% worthless? Havok was not the only thing out there either, there was Ghostbuster: Video Game's Infernal Velocity engine that did wonders. Even HLSL, as grstanford stated over at ABT forum with 3DMark03 ( here is the video that he uploaded) .. did wonders for the hair back then!AMD was evangelizing N patches and nVidia was evangelizing RT patches! The irony is both were collaborating with Havok and HavokFX for GPU physics and Intel swooped in!

Honestly, the amount of retardation in this thread is mind boggling. Half the nvidia cheerleaders don't even realize that direct compute is part of DX11 API's and not something owned by AMD. They are blaming AMD for gimping Nvidia's performance with DirectCompute. What a bunch of smart individuals.
