Holy crap a 3rd train derailment. Shut down this company. Or only allow them to ship cotton balls.
There are derailments across most of the class 1 railroads nearly every other day in this country. We're only hearing about them now because people are looking to report on them, but it's certainly nothing new. A lot is definitely driven by poor track maintenance and using excessively long trains.
Or at least a moratorium on shipping hazardous materials until NS gets their act together and Congress can pass updated regulations.
Unfortunately, that would drive that type of shipping to trucks, which would take many more to move the same amount of materials, and is also a pretty dangerous way to ship.
The best choice, that this Congress wouldn't do, is to nationalize the infrastructure, pour money into fixing up trackage, capping train lengths, and forcing the industry to abide by certain rules and schedules if they want to use our track (and it should really be our track after we practically gave away tons of land to their predecessor companies on which they made oodles of money).
