I am a fan of Tracy Morgan and am not easily offended (I'm a longtime Stern/Carolla listener and appreciate irreverent comedy), but I find these comments pretty repugnant and unfunny. It's not going to make me boycott 30 Rock or anything - in a way I can appreciate his honesty - but I think what he said is out of bounds.

I actually care more that it's unfunny than that it's offensive. Eddie Murphy's gay material in the '80s was politically incorrect (shockingly so by today's standards) but at least it was funny . . .

yeah. that's shockingly bad.

those aren't even jokes--sounds like he's lashing out...

I think people get too bent out of shape by what comedians say, whether they wholeheartedly believe it or not. You either like their act and what they're saying or you don't, get over it.

As sound bytes in a print article, that stuff wasn't very funny... but that isn't a very good way to evaluate a standup act. Tracy Morgan loves to say retarded outlandish shit anyway, so it has to be taken in that context also. Either way my original point stands.

That said, "I don't "f*cking care if I piss off some gays, because if they can take a f*cking d**k up their ass ... they can take a f*cking joke."
^^ that's funny.

Personally, I am getting kinda bored/fed up with all the "Anti-bullying" nonsense in general. Not just with gays, but with teens and cyberbullying and such too.

The shit is going to happen. No reason to be unrealistic about it. It isn't going to stop. Need to work on teaching our kids to deal with it because it is how the real world works. It suck I know. I fucking hated high school too. You just learned to deal with that shit and move on.
I mean he had a point, stop being such pussies about it.

I disagree with this 100%. As someone who was bullied for all my childhood life just for being "the smart kid". Bullying should not just be assumed and accepted as being part of life's right-of-passage. Especially for kids. As adults, things that we are able to brush off and mostly ignore, can cause terrible long lasting or even permanent damage to a kid. It took me many many years to feel like I've finally healed from what I had to go through.

It was crude and stupid but I agree the point of a stand up comedian is to make people laugh and nothing more. If you take him seriously at all you completely missed the point.
Having said that, such humor is not to my taste and now I know I can safely avoid his brand of stand-up.
Recommend the same for everyone else.

The truth is that it isnt so much that people are gay that bothers people but gender bending. It upsets people greatly when someone acts more feminine or masculine than people think they should.

its been said many times before ..might be humorous but its not original

did people not know what to expect when they went to see him? it would be like going to see lady gaga and being surprised she wore strange outfits.

Eh... there's a lot of shit these days that flat out goes too far and needs to be dealt with. On the flip side of the coin, though, the anti-bullying movement is breeding hypersensitivity that I think is putting unrealistic expectations on the behavior of kids and breeding massive overreactions from adult authority figures. If you're picked on you just need to learn how to deal with it but schools and parents need to create environments that don't foster bullying. I know it sounds like I'm contradicting myself somewhat but the reality is people just need to exercise good judgment, which I realize is something of a lost art.

And for the record I probably had as miserable a school experience as you did, but I'm not still whining about 15 years later.

Many people only know Tracy Morgan from his network TV role on 30 Rock and so may think he only plays a crudely clueless, immature and entirely thoughtless narcissist who routinely displays signs of organic brain damage.

They can be excused for not knowing he may actually be one.

The bolded part I completely agree with. As for how long it takes to get over something like that, when it's been even remotely close to 15 years I'll let you know. If you really had to go through something even mildly close to what I did then I am truly sorry.

Well, most actors tend to be bad actors and tend to play.. themselves... so it's no surprise to me.

These are the exact reasons I love him

These jokes were pretty brutal in nature, but Tracy Morgan is a funny dude. He just a bit more raw than most comics.

Isn't there a strong undercurrent of homophobia already prevalent amongst African American males, particularly the hip hop culture? I remember this being said ~20 years ago when the documentary about black transsexuals Paris Is Burning came out.

yea well he is a bit "off" lol

but the truth is if you ask most men if they would choose to have their son talk to them in an effeminate voice, you know very well what they would say. like it or not some gay voices grate on the nerves. just because you are gay doesn't mean you have to mince around like an idiot, that is a choice.
