If quality didn't matter, then the Big3 would have retained all of the customers that have switched to Imports over the past 30-40 years. It's as simple as that.

It takes YEARS for quality and sales to coincide. Why has it taken Toyota years to reach the No.2 spot if their products where superior in the past. Probably the same reason it has takes decades for people to move from Domestics to Japanese. GM and Fords quality is there right now, 2008, it just hasn't hit the general public. You guys are so dense.

Many reasons.

We bombed Japan in 1945. Even way afterwards people were extreamly patriotic for their country. Even then I don't think many Americans are really accepting of other cultures. I would think a lot of people buy American cars because.

A. They are cheaper.
B. It's the American way (support your people)

C. The Japanese do not offer simple manual transmission RWD vehicles with high horsepower V8 engines at reasonable prices.

A. They are cheaper. Most American cars are comparable in price. In fact hasn't there been a couple threads regarding how some American cars are overpriced.
B. It's the American way (support your people) Sort the way Japan sets up laws keeping foreign automakers from gaining ground on their home turf right?

See bolded.

You're hopeless. I'm outta this thread.

"Ford Motor China Sales Rise 30 Percent in 2007, Outpacing Industry in Growing Market"

"Despite deteriorating U.S. economic conditions, Mulally said the company still plans to return to profitability in 2009, and when it does, the stock market will reward it."

"Mulally also said his company is not bothered by being passed by Toyota Motor Corp. last year as the No. 2 seller of autos in the U.S. Ford, he said, knew its sales would drop as it moved from a focus on big sport utility vehicles and trucks to smaller vehicles"

"Jan. 8--Ford Motor Co.-owned brands won or tied for first in six categories, more than any other automaker, in the 2007 Strategic Vision report on "most delightful" vehicles."

"Ford Motor Co. said Tuesday it plans to invest US$500 million (euro340 million) to double its production in India and start making a low-cost small car that is intended to help the U.S. automaker boost its market share here."

"There's no pride in being No. 2 and losing $12 billion while you're doing it. The key is making sure that we return ourselves to profitability," Fields said. "We'll let the sales fall out where they may in terms of rankings."

Dont confuse Ford giving up the #2 to Toyota taking it. Ford is moving toward profits and not numbers.

As much as I have not been a fan of American Ford vehicles for a while...I really think they'll get back to making quality products (and in some cases they already are). Their European brand Fords (Focus, Mondeo, etc.) are great and so are Mazda, Volvo, etc. The Fusion is competitive and the Taurus...although stupid name...is not a bad vehicle. With Sync getting a lot of good reviews...I think they could start doing really well if they start matching the quality of thier European cars here in the States. I'm definitely rooting for the home team...even if my wife and I both drive Japanese vehicles (that may change if something domestic is decent and falls within our requirements next time around).

Huh...you need to go learn what logic means. First you are trying to tell people how quality equals sales...then your saying it doesn't matter...all that matters is that one car company sells more than the other. Well Ford has outsold Toyota 9 out of the last 10 years and GM has outsold Toyota 10 out of the last 10 years...so clearly GM is a much better car company than Toyota by your standards. You are really all over the place...it is actually almost humorous reading your posts.
