Science is correct. We just don't know what happened in between initial inspection and the next time the ball was weighed. Either way it'll be good to get an official interpretation from Columbia and put an end to the armchair "science".

Armchair Science? Lol. You really don't understand what science is.

heard a sports scientist on the radio this morning talking about this again.

he said that a ball being wet - just like you dipped it in some water and quickly pulled it out, so not being completely drenched in water or anything, just like if you were playing the game with a wet ball as if it just started raining - adds more weight to the football and will effect it more than the 2lbs of psi that they are claiming it lost.

also had former tight end on the radio who has been out of the nfl for over 8 years now talking about how when he was playing, they had equipment people doing things to the balls before every game like scuffing them up with large brushes used to brush horses, and compressing the ends into the ground to make the ball not as long (like how the kickers do it before they kick off), and a whole bunch of other crap.

then i heard multiple people including rg3 that they had no clue there was even a rule about this before and that the balls are just inflated until "they feel right" and they give them to the refs.

it's hilarious how this is a whole much a do about nothing and how big it got.

Yep, I also read this earlier today: http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/12244290/ex-quarterback-jeff-blake-deflating-footballs-common

Much ado about stupid nonsense.

So what we're learning is that the nfl has no desire to enforce almost anything regarding rules unless it involves not wanting to talk to reporters, wearing a non-approved beastmode hat, different cleats during a game, or punishing players twice if the public calls for their head (Rice, Peterson). From PEDs to Stickem to concussions to improperly inflated footballs, the nfl is only maintaining its historic, abysmal track record of eliminating competitive advantages. Bonds and Armstrong were in the wrong sport - you have to be a complete moron to get caught for something in the nfl since they will let almost any infraction slide. Awesome sport.

I like how this has basically come down to the NFL players not having any idea what's going on because the NFL has no god damn idea what its doing

Of course, the NFL only cares about rules that effect their bottom line. A player not wearing headphones of the "official NFL headphone" provider at a press conference? Obviously, that is more severe than literally every team breaking rules nobody can see.

But, I have always stood by that the NFL is run by complete fucking morons who lack even the basic respect for the integrity of the sport.

this is what blows my mind. There are lots of reports of QB's not even knowing that there was a rule saying how much air it is to have or that they are in another room.

How is this in any way surprising? The NFL rulebook is long. Do you know every law of the state and country your in?

well yeah it is surprising that some QB's did not know that the ball had a min and max when it came to PSI. OR that the balls had to be in care of the refs until the game. etc

Do i expect a QB to know every rule? no. but if it really involves them yes i do expect them to know the rules.

Oh wow, did we beat some common sense into your deranged mind yet?

I mean, it hasn't even been proven that the Pats did shit, yet they're already guilty to some of you yahoos.

As someone else said (forgot if it was here or another forum): If it was the Patriots who were caught using unauthorized communication equipment and the Browns were 'caught' deflating footballs, we wouldn't be talking about 'deflategate' and we'd be talking about how the Patriots cheat by using unauthorized communications.

I bet 99% of the idiots screaming about deflategate doesn't even know about the Browns' controversy right now.

You are the biggest OFFENDER of 'armchair science'. Remember "avogadro's law"? Tests have already shown that the weather/wetness were plausible explanation of the loss of PSI.

i don't think it's surprising at all. i mean i've been playing sports my entire life (granted not at the pro level) and everyone just plays with balls (LOL) that just feel right (LOL). i doubt they ever had it measured in highschool or college as well. plus, it's the equipment people that do all of this stuff.

The NFL rulebook is long. And it's not expected for players to know every last detail.

But it is expected for NFL officials and referees to know them all and enforce them. It's their explicit job to do so.

And those in charge of preparing the balls for the team, it's their explicit job to know the relevant rules too. It's one measly paragraph on the football. Not that difficult.

As a Raiders fan I hate the Pats more than anyone. Every time the tuck rule comes up I want to stomp on a baby chick. Tom Brady is the douchiest douche that ever douched and Belicheat is a convicted cheater. That being said, inflate gate is the stupidest shit ever. No one gave a fuck about the inflation level of the balls until now, and I honestly wouldn't be surprised if belichik came up with this entire "controvery" in order to piss his team off enough to handle the physicality of Seattle.

Lol a Raiders fan complaining about another team being cheap/dirty. That is rich. :D

That last part is awesome though; I hope that is true!

Was that a poem or something? I can't tell with you fruity boston types. Remember when you guys were tough? Now you are speaking in poems, wearing bieber haircuts and drinking Coronas. Might as well just put on your skirts and swish around in them.

Add to the fact that this very issue was lobbied very recently--2006--by a cadre of QB's, including Brady and PFM, until they got what they wanted.

I want to say that, yeah--why would they know or care about these middling rules? It does seem rather nonsensical in the end. But a lot of them certainly had to know about it after having fought to control it on their end.

How many pats fans crying about deflate gate are coming to the defense of players in hat gate or cleat gate or handshake gate? Oh yeah, they're obviously the most persecuted team when the Seahawks have the most bullshit fines in the history of the league.

I understand supporting your team, but you should also desire the league to have some semblance of integrity and consistency.

One word: Spygate. I bet you have some silly justification rattling around the peanuts in your brain. To get caught doing such a thing requires blatant idiocy, so blatant that the nfl had to burn the evidence. I'd love to hear your thoughts on that as well.

Avogadro's Law is involved in certain PSI calculations, including this one.

Guys, guys, stop all the senseless hate. We can all band together and agree that both of the biggest cheating teams in football made the Superbowl.
