Had it been a 'normal' on road vehicle they might be right (also assuming a straight road),though with a very high up off roader with tall tyres & long relativley soft suspension you've got no chance unless your doing less than 20mph! ,they're talking out of their arses!.You should ask them if they were aware its an off roader.
Tell them you'll take your buisiness elsewhere if they don't give you 'no fault'
Also was the road surface damaged? ,that would make things worse naturally

Bloody insurance companies :|

I think you have a court case here. Unless you were driving recklessly, I don't thing an unexpected blow-out could be classed as an "AT Fault" accident. And as All insurance companies fear the pending claims due Katrina, they will try to weasel out of any claim they can.

Just my oppinion. ;) Besides I never liked Geckos anyway. :p

Smoke, I don't have first-hand knowledge of the current state of affairs there, but , I have been through a few disasters In my years and this looks like the topper.

I have been following the aftermath like a bloodhound on the trail of an excaped convict.
I read the news and posts of the local areas and especially Biloxi. Did Tech Training at Kesseler as an Airman in 1979....holds a special place with me. With the exception of a few Cell towers coming online and Power restored to a few areas, seems there is total caos.

You have my ut-most respect and admiration, and i think, I can safely say from the rest of the Seti Team. As well, most , if not all of TeAm Anandtech. We all feel your pain and desperation. Its through your dedication and leadership that we still hold our prestigious #5 Ranking in Seti Classic.:beer::beer::beer::beer::beer::beer::beer::beer::beer::beer::beer::beer::beer:

I only mean to distract you from the devistation, just long enough to sit back and take a second look (all those Beers might not do it though. :(
Take Charge. Ralley all as fortunate as you. Organize an effort to recovery the lives of those less fortunate. Give them all a purpose and a bit of hope....a light at the end of the tunnel.

I am sorry for your losses. I am deeply saddened and know it will take a long time to heal from the scars inflicted from the storm as well as the after effects. Hold in there brother, the storms of life will pass.

There are many that strive to understand what is happening there, thank you for your efforts in bringing us hopeful news.

I am glad you are ok, I know things will never be the same, so ok may be all we can wish for untill the future offers us hope.

Please hang in there, we are praying for you all.

My condolences to you and Ida for your friend and family member Creola.

Mike

Thanks Mike and everyone.

We lost our Creola this morning at 9:40 am

Pre-adjusters came by the house at 12 noon and issued a check so I can start on repairs once the giant tree is off the roof and house. The subdivsions on each side of us and across Hwy 22 have power, we are the only ones in that area without power.

I am going back to the house tomorrow to live there as I got "written" permission from the Causeway Captain to cross the Causeway.

I forgot to bring my DSL Modem with me to see if the DSL is working, we never lost phone service.

Oh and I forgot to mention the Geico Rep also said I should expect my rate to go up in 6 months since I will have an "At Fault" wreck on my record.

So Sorry for you loss dave.

Just like the insurance companies to pour salt to the wounds rather than show some compassion.you would think its their money, rather than the service you pay for.

eh, sorry, getting carried away as usual.

I hope you get power restored soon and that the dsl works, you could use a little good news and some relief from all the "reality"

A CLECO (our local power Co) rep stopped by yesterday and said it would be at least a week before they give power to our subdivision.

His reasoning was because the area where we get power fed to our main lines had all it's poles and lines taken down by trees.

That's bullsh1t. We back up to Hwy 22 that has power. There is no reason they couldn't run a line to the Poles that we can see right behind my house to energize the subdivision.

It is because my subdivsion is not filled with doctors and lawyers like the subdivision across the highway that had a ton more damage than my subdivsion (they had more trees. It's really very clearly obvious where they put their priorties.

Greetings. I am now at the house. No power but phone & DSL has been up even during the storm.

My situation pales in comparison to hearing Greg (Smoke) laid up in hospital of a possible stroke.

An old generator borrowed from a friend is puttering outside. I can stay online and have lights and fan as long as it holds out.

Situation with Power turns out is Political.

Big Neighborhood to the west of us has a Homeowners Association. Our subdivision is fed by poles and lines that run through their backyards. They built fences and sheds and the Power Company would have to bulldoze the stuff they built to give us power.

The Homeowners Association told the power crews to leave us without power today. The crews packed up.

We have nothing to do with that Association in our subdivision and it is not right for them to turn the power company away like that.

I spoke with the Power Co command center and they told me they would discuss the situation tomorrow.

I am fuming to say the least. I will run a line to the main highway pole in back of me if that is what it takes.

A tree company is coming tomorrow morning at 8 am to assess the tree situation.

They are not sure they have the means to handle this tree. They have a bobcat but this may require a crane it is so big.

Glad Greg will be OK.

Have a tree crew coming tomorrow that will take the tree off the houe for $3,300.

Then I can patch the roof and cross the causeway to go to work.

Power Co came by in the morning and said another week, then at 5:30 pm they came by again and said another two weeks.

That would be five weeks with no power.

Tree is now off the house.

Going up to patch up the roof now.

If had power would be pretty much back to normal except a few more projects on my list.

That's a bunch of crap. The homeowners should know better than to build anything on an easement. I used to work construction burying phone cable. Sometimes we had to go through residential neighborhoods, in the backyards on the easement there. If they had anything on the easement, we would give them advance warning we were coming through. If it was still there, we would move it or tear it down. No IFs, ANDs, or BUTs about it. And we weren't going to wait 2 weeks either. The power company should have told them tough, we have to restore power, you've illegally built on an easement, we are going in. Damn politics...

Hurricane Rita is now a category 5 hurricane. I am packing up to leave at the moment. I will be back to ride out the storm at work. The building was built in the 50's and has been here through Carla without a scratch.
It looks like the storm will miss Houston as a direct hit, but will still get category 2-3 winds from it. I am not taking any chances. Dave, Smoke, and all of the others affected by hurricane Katrina, we are praying for you daily.

Stay the course,
HayHauler

It was a 30 foot waterfall.

The Army Corp is out there trying to shore it up.

They said that the water has stopped flowing in.

Now they have to get the pumps going again.
