I am paying for a private school in California and an apartment rent (with three roommates) without my parents' help. I work part time year round and a small job at the school.

How?

Live cheap, dumb@ss.

1) Sell your car. Cars cost more than they're worth. Bum a ride, walk, or borrow a bike to get to school/work.

2) Eat absolute crap. I lived off of cans of tuna fish, bags of iceberg lettuce, quaker oats, the occasional eggs, and tap water for the last three semesters. Food cost was less than 15 dollars a week.

3) Don't do anything. I couldn't afford to go out to eat, go to the movies, or anything that had a cover charge. I stayed home and studied and wrote. As a reward I got a boosted academic grant for my 3.9, scholarships from two honors societies, and a paid journalism internship with a professor at the school. Yeah I skipped going to see Spiderman 2 and Million Dollar Baby, but I win at life.

4) When you get in trouble financially, ask friends and family for help. True friends will be happy to help, and your family usually wants to help if they can. They both typically have much better interest rates than the credit cards and it is a chance for you to build trust by paying them off timely. Also, no shot to the credit ratings for later.

5) Cut all the monthly payments you can. Try to get down to rent, food, and school. If you're holding down a steady part-time, you should be able to make your payments.

Quite the interest rate you have there. :)

Federal Subsidized Loans aren't always available. My father makes a lot of money, so the loans they offer are unsibsidized. IMO hard work and cheap living is a great alternative to borrowing from credit companies and the gov't.

credit cards are crazy

I can't remember when I bought my second 2005FPW and I still haven't paid for it yet because I used my old Capital One card. Transferred the balance to a new Citi card. Fun stuff, gotta pay it off soon though.

You can get private lender loans with decent rates, and deffered payments.

You'd be surprised. Here in SoCal, most people won't touch water that isn't presealed, purified, and cost $1.59 for 12oz.

1) Financial Aid
2) Student Loans
3) Ask for advice on how to improve the situation rather than post "F U" in the first line of your post.

I am 20 yrs old with 3 credit cards. I have a full-time job during the summer and 25 hr. work weeks during the school year. I goto school full-time (atleast 15 hrs a semester) and pay for all of school myself with grants/scholarships/minimal loans. I pay all my bills (car, insurance, cell phone, food, gas, books, entertainment, etc etc). I have $XXXX in my checking account and pay off all 3 cards at the end of the month (except for my 0% interest stuff :p)

It can be done easily, you are just a douche.

well aren't you fvcking special? you want a cookie?

Just out of curiousity, how much does rent amount to over there in texas? Have you tried paying the prices here in california? And how much do you make in your job?

I can't believe how many people here are so fvcking naive they think that it's so easy to pay off your credit cards every month, so they think people that can't are stupid.

Are you chained to a rock in California?

EXACTLY.

and stop buying all that crap listed in your heatware and maybe you wouldn't be in debt

The last thing I bought was over 8 months ago dumb@ss. My whole point here is to try and get people to stop being so d@mn naive and think they're all high and mighty. Fact is, they probably aren't in the same situation, and will never be, but it's still not right to look down on people or think they're morons when they do what they have to to make do.

So not being in debt makes me naive?

No...making rash generalizations about those who are and then looking down on them without realizing their circumstances would make you naive.

Naive? Maybe they just prefer to look down on others with credit card debt. I know I do.

Why? Do you really think you're so superior and that makes you a better human being? Why don't you come over here and I'll knock your "superior" face in.

More realistically, it goes like this:

"Suppose you couldn't work for a week, so you had no money for that week, you still need to eat at nice restaurants, don't you? You still need to put gas in the car you just bought to drive to school don't you? You have to treat yourself to nice clothes, don't you? I need to keep up with the Joneses like everyone else, and just because I don't have money doesn't mean I should stop spending it"

1) I need to eat period, no nice restaurants etc
2) my car is a product of the 1980s, not one I just bought, and it requires maintainance, as most older cars to.
3) most of my wardrobe is over 1.5 years old save for one business suit I bought for a job interview last week ($200 investment in something that will pay far more).
4) I'm not trying to keep up with the joneses, I'm just trying to make a living like everyone else.

If you choose to live like a poor man through 4 yrs of college thats your choice.
Me personally, I like to have fun during college and if that means running up some debt, its perfectly fine.

I ran up $20K after college and I was still able to pay it off before I even got a real job.

1) car is a necessity to get anywhere here
2) you try drinking the barely passable crap that comes out of the tap in my town (well-water)
5) already done

I'm not posting to ask for advice, I'm posting because I don't understand why some people are so pathetic as to think they have the right to look down on others merely because they have accrued some credit card debt to make ends meet.

That makes no sense. If you were able to pay off $20K in CC debt before any significant about of income started coming in, then you were stupid for running it up in the first place.

Slinging weed. Quick cash. You just need a down-payment and a connection.

But I don't know how the market is. I've tried to do some math and figured that you can make upwards of a 2000% return on large quantities of marijuana by selling it in smaller amounts. Plus, if you live near a university full of rich kids, you can probably make a killing.

Entrepreneurship!
