Boo hoo hoo. I didn't have a trust fund and my parents did not pay for my college and I managed to do it and have fun without running up a credit card.

yeah....How many times do you eat OUT a week? Im sure you could save tons by buying groceries and not Fast Food everyday....you gotta squeeze every penny!

Just this last quarter I was in the lab until 11pm most nights finishing up lab projects. That doesn't really leave much room for cooking when I have to wake up for an 8am class the next day. I mean sure, top ramen is easy and quick, but it's also incredibly unhealthy when it's the only thing you eat, and gets really really boring.

Speaking from experience, yes ramen is unbelievably unhealthy when it's the only thing you eat.

you guys are numbnuts...there is no reason to owe credit card debt, there are much cheaper places to get loans. working part time while in school + working full time over summer at engineering internship + living in crappy closet + eat beans and rice = enough to pay state tuition. if you come up short, get a low interest loan that doesn't accumulate interest until after you graduate and/ or use savings from working before high school.

if you have any cc debt, you should buy absolutly nothing except the min food you need to stay alive until it's paid off.

well aren't you fvcking special? you want a cookie?

Just out of curiousity, how much does rent amount to over there in texas? Have you tried paying the prices here in california? And how much do you make in your job?

I can't believe how many people here are so fvcking naive they think that it's so easy to pay off your credit cards every month, so they think people that can't are stupid.

Are you chained to a rock in California?

I'd love to see you go to school full time, work full time, still pass all of your classes, and somehow pay for college and all of your bills all on your own without the use of a credit card or sucking off of rich parents or friends. Sometimes it's all you can do just to make the bills, let alone clothes on your back, a roof over your head, and food on the table.

Douche.

OP and this post are complete bullsh*t.

There is no need for credit card debt in schooling. Student loans and scholarships will pay for tuition (I don't see how you'd put that on a Visa anyway), and many times books as well. Get a part time job when not in class to cover bills, rent, groceries, etc.

For the past 3 years of my college career I've been working two jobs and still making a 3.3 cumulative GPA. It's fully possible to do. Bottom line: If you want to get through school without debt you will find a way. There are so many options out there, it's almost funny to see someone say you can't get a good education if you have a decent amount fo intelligence. It's WORK ETHIC, ORGANIZATION, and DEDICATION that most people are missing.

You're the moron here. Financial aid, esp with rising prices here in california, doesn't give enough sometimes. If you read the posts, you'd know that I do have a part time job, but sometimes it isn't enough to make ends meet. Forget the fact that depending on your major, you have to spend a lot more time doing school work with some than with others.

EDIT: let me also add that I had to spend about $300 fixing my car this week because it's an old thing about 230000 miles that I need to work to get to work/school. Things come up, and sometimes running up your credit card is unavoidable. I sincerely wish people would understand that.

i do this. i work full time and go to school full time at nights and one morning class. i don't get any money from my parents, not like they could anyway. and i have 0 debt. you just have to prioritize. but if he wants to run up a cc debt, i could care less. i just think it's stupid to say he "needs" to, when really he just "wants" to.
there are times though when people really do need to.

The last thing I bought was over 8 months ago dumb@ss. My whole point here is to try and get people to stop being so d@mn naive and think they're all high and mighty. Fact is, they probably aren't in the same situation, and will never be, but it's still not right to look down on people or think they're morons when they do what they have to to make do.

THEN GET THE HELL OUT OF CALIFORNIA.

God I can't stand people who would rather WHINE about their circumstances rather than DO something about it.

You don't want to have financial trouble? You say California is the cause? Then attend school somewhere else. Too much trouble? Well then I guess you just don't want that education that badly do you?

If you want it that badly, you will find a way - if you don't, then you simply don't care enough. Actions speak louder than words.

mmmm i live in nyc, granted i was living with roommates, but i was still paying 500 bucks a month in rent plus utilities, cell phone, internet, subway fare, books, blah blah blah

i interned at a company making 10 bucks an hour, and i scheduled my classes around my job so i wouldn't be in debt, and im not in debt now. it can be done...

i'm sure plenty of people paid their way through college without getting into huge CC debt. myself included. there's financial aid and scholarship programs that can help. you could go to school somewhere where its cheaper to live. there's a lot of options. if you don't want to do them, then you don't have a right to complain.

watch the debt nonetheless. Don't use the CC for frivlious buys and trips in college. I went on quite a few trips and bought things I didn't need, and I'm still paying off the CC debt a year later :(
