Holy crap. His plan was to tie up Pelosi and question her. If he liked the answers, he’d release her. But if not, break her kneecaps so she’d have to be wheeled in to congress.

MAGATS victim blaming again. Also people in the comments have posted how they have MAGA colleagues or people they know laughing at this event. MAGA is evil

Arguing with a tRump supporter is like playing chess with a pigeon... No matter how good you are at chess, the pigeon is just going to knock over the pieces, crap on the board, and strut around like it's victorious..

Aside from the whole breaking into a house and attacking an old man with a hammer thing of course.

He had a bag of zip ties and a roll of duct tape and was chanting "where is Nancy." Mr. Pelosi asked if he could make a bathroom run and was allowed. He goes in there where he knew his cell phone was charging and called 911. His message was semi-cryptic, he evidently suspected he'd be overheard. The female 911 operator sensed that this was a dangerous situation and upgraded the message to SFPD from the standard, which the Chief of Police said was likely life saving.

Russian corruption is so thorough... it's like a virus that can't be contained. I am all for declawing and removing the teeth of the entity known as Russia. I do not believe that Russia as it is today can be redeemed.

Oops..forgot personal commentary...
I really don't know just how compromised Trump is/was with Putin, but he wanted to do business there badly...and nothing omportant happens in Russia without Putin's knowledge/involvement.

that's insane. if not for some quick thinking on both their parts, Mr. Pelosi could very well be a dead man.

You have the Supreme Court to thank for that-they totally gutted the McCain-Feingold Act, the last serious effort to reform the electoral process. To so-called conservatives money=speech, and they aren't the least bit shy about saying so.
And conservative voters will run around complaining that there is too much money in politics "oN bOtH sIdEs," completely oblivious to the fact that it is their side that fights tooth and nail to squeeze as much more "legal" money into the system as possible.

You might not agree with what he did, but it sure appears that he thought it out and executed a plan. That does not suggest that he was having some delusional state, or psychotic break. It was a decision to take action on what he believed to be a existential threat to his country. If you accept as true all the stuff the conservative media says about Pelosi it is not that hard to understand how he came to that conclusion. The problem was not his mental state, but the trash he filled his mental world with.

When talking about this incident this weekend my Mother, who is this sweet old lady, said of it, 'He must be a very brave man'. Because she believes that someone should 'do something' about the evil Pelosi's, because all her news comes from that crafty Fox and they have her convinced that Nancy Pelosi is some kind of evil mastermind that is destroying America.

Look it's not like they maybe Paul Pelosi miss dessert. THAT is the sort of vicious attack that requires a long national conversation about civility in politics. Not the attempted murder of the husband of the Speaker or the attacker's desire to personally torture the speaker into a confession after which he would parade her mangled body around the Capitol as a warning to others. That doesn't even make it above the fold on the NYT.

I genuinely do not know why the media pretends to believe Republicans when they complain about these things.

Does anyone know what color suit Mr. Pelosi was wearing? America needs to know!

Are you just sitting over here downplaying the extreme indignity of using the back exit, like a... a common servant or something?!? That's like stabbing Lady Liberty right in the spleen!

Sorry but far as I'm concerned the guy was "fooking nutz".

David Berkowitz, Jim Jones. John Wayne Gacy and Charles Manson (among countless others!) had "plans" too so that qualification by itself is insufficient.

The fact that he was may have been DRIVEN INSANE by all the Fox news propaganda he was "brainwashed" with rather than a medically recognized condition is beside the point.

I would encourage you to read the affidavit and ask yourself if the statements of Depape sound like things you would hear on right wing media. (spoiler alert: they match to a T)

You can start on page 5:

EDIT: It is not that Fox News is necessarily turning otherwise sane people into hammer wielding maniacs, it is radicalizing everyone. The thing is while for most people this turns your relatively sane conservative uncle into a delusional conspiracy theorist it ends there. If someone is already unbalanced though you end up with things like this.

Seriously you know that a person "living on the fringe" can be "set off" by something crazy they listen to over and over obsessively. (and a lot of what they say on Fox news IS crazy bro... Al Jazeera is literally a more rational/accurate source)

Not everyone is "moored" to reality tightly is all I'm saying... doesn't take much in those folks to cause a breakdown, whatever "extreme" belief they happen to have, right, left or otherwise.

He was never going to let her go. He would have beaten her to death. Just imagine what the thugs who planned to kidnap Gretchen Whitmer would have done to the Michigan Governor.

I agree. If you look at the charging document once Paul called the cops he was aware that the police would not let him get away with this. I'm confident he would have come to the same conclusion had he successfully captured/attacked Nancy. He would have gotten her, realized he couldn't escape, and then there's a high probability he kills her.

Some of the group had suggested cannibalizing her, apparently it was (one of) the last straw before the plan went too far for one of them, and he contacted the authorities to report the group.
