That reminds me of a story I recently read where a couple was married for 10 years when the husband told his wife he was transgender lesbian so he still loved her and wanted to stay married.

This brings up an interesting question (which I'm sure has been asked a billion times by drunkards), would you still want to be with your significant other if you found out they were trans?

In reality most of this gender stuff is just bullshit. But, if the bullshit is important enough to enough people then it effectively becomes part of reality. At that point the rest of us just have to deal with it, and as long as it is not infringing on anyone else's pursuit of freedom and happiness then I see no reason to have a beef with it. Reality is bizarre and very little in life is black and white, even gender apparently.

How is it "bullshit"?

I think he means, and correct me if I'm wrong, that it's not overly important in the grand scheme of our existence. It's another label, which doesn't mean a great deal outside of the individual that chose it. It's 'important' to them, but not as much as things like eating or not being eaten by a grue.

No wonder Trump won. The so called gender spectrum is an example of socal nonsense expressed by mainly the self indulgent and mentally confused. The confusion is perhaps between the simple difference on the one hand of male/female based on genitals and on the other between masculine/feminine based on hormones. There are only two genders but the rest of it is up for grabs. So as I say, life is a unity of the given--your gender--and the construed--how you deal with it.

There's not a spectrum.

I understand this perspective, really I do. I have a hard time understanding how there could be a spectrum. It doesn't make a ton of sense to me either. I've gotten into heated arguments in the past about it, not because I say it is wrong or bad or whatever but because I am not confident that we as a society, including the scientific/psychological/neuro-cognitive whatever brain geniuses, know nearly enough about gender to say for certain one way or the other that gender is or is not binary. Simply put, I have no clue, and I have no clue how anyone else can be so confident about it. We question the sanity of people that want to cut their own arms off, but not people who want to cut out their reproductive organs. Makes no sense to me. I don't get it.

BUT

What the fuck do I care? It has nothing to do with me in any way whatsoever. If other people want to do this, by all means have at it. Fill your boots. Be whatever gender you want. I should have no say whatsoever in whether or not you identify as anything. My opinion is not relevant. I fully support people's rights to choose whatever it is they want, and then live that life happily. I don't have to "get it" in order for that to be the right thing to do.

Probably not, since around 97% of the population isn't bi.

I never said that.
No, you just sound pretty much exactly like people who did say that 30+ years ago.
No wonder Trump won.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure this wasn't really a big factor in his win...

From where I'm sitting, you're the one that's confused, and the people that identify as something other than "man" or "woman" have figured out the part of it that's relevant to their life.

+1

Look at the list of behaviours that were classed as mental defects, and how that list has been whittled down rapidly over the years. I'd be inclined to put a hefty bet that most of those that made the list were put there by people who decided that behaviour was a problem for them rather than the person exhibiting the behaviour.

These days, the general rule is that if your behaviour is not detrimental to your well-being or that of others, it's just part of who you are.

You're right. You never did. You said "underlying mental issue"
*sigh*

You said I said homosexuals have an underlying mental disorder which I didn't. I do think that people who see themselves as one of 33 other gender flavors other than male or female do have a mental disorder however.

What you say is a good example of the confusion of issues. You see, the interesting question posed by Tinder's ridiculous spectrum is clearly one of masculine/feminine not male female. By referring to the man/woman dichotomy you completely ignore the issue of masculine feminine differences. One can be male but act like a woman. And vice versa. You are probably aware of that, however dimly. The latest twist are medical operations to change genitals to correspond with masculine/feminine preferences. Any more diversity ( the favorite word of all liberals who I actually think have a mental disease) is shit for brains nonsense. With all due respect, of course.
