How the hell did they get to this point?

The Capital city of the state,
A city of about 150,000,
Have been under a boil water advisory since July,
... and now they have no water... can't flush, can't fight fires, can't even run air conditioners that rely on water.
They don't even have bottled water to hand out.

Some red states can't keep the lights on, others can't keep the water flowing.

Here is how they got to that point. Many layers of incompetence. Lack of staff, maintenance, and little to no redundancy at the water treatment facility along with wishful thinking that total failure was perhaps months out that they had to get things under control before they lost pressure in the pipes. They were wrong.

I'd hate to see who is worse in infrastructure if this is an example.

I'd guess the average GOP voter in Mississippi could care less about this for one or more of the following reasons:
1) They have low taxes,
2) Jackson is a big city and is populated mainly by those people, the type that voted 75% Dem in the last presidential election. The doctors, lawyers and executives that work there most likely live and pay their taxes in a suburb, and/or
3) If things get bad enough the feds will bail them out and pick up the bill.

This situation is repeated (usually to a lesser degree) in nearly every city in the US, especially those in red states.

Nobody is that stupid without being proud of it. Hothing is quite as satisfying to people who hate themselves than reaching for the closest hammer and hitting themselves in the head. Truth is counterintuitive.

So many working class folks in those "conservative" controlled states that take much more from the federal coffers than they contribute, consistently vote Repub while reaping the many benefits the Democrats fought hard to give them. This while they brand those very same Democrats as baby killers, gay loving heathen, gun grabbers and communist socialists.

If these folks were true to their ideologies, they wouldn't accept the socialist welfare checks they receive every month as well as all of those other socialist benefits like Medicare/Medicaid, infrastructure services, postal services, Social Security benefits, disaster assistance from FEMA and on and on and on. And then we have their Repub politicians trying their very best to deny all of those socialist gov't benefits that the Repub middle class and their poor enjoy and rely on every chance they get while also taking credit for giving them those same socialist services that they're trying to take away.

Hypocrisy knows no bounds with the Repubs. This surreal existence they find themselves in yet somehow believe it's perfectly fine to be that way, that there's nothing wrong with being such hypocrites is so amazing to behold, yet so quizzical in nature.

The people who will suffer the most in Mississippi are not the ones in power. Whites comprise 55.3% of the state's population. Blacks make up 36.4%.

I know the leadership of Mississippi is conservative and as some say, backwards. The capital of Jackson, Miss., is 80% Black. If you don't have a car or someone to help your family, what chance does one have?

Well, they've said they'd rather be Russians than Democrats. Some states are very proud of making sure that their citizens live like most Russians.

Do you think showing sympathy to a grieving family will make a difference?

No it won’t. So let’s identify and recognize the problem and make people aware of it. Then the people of Mississippi can vote for the change they want out don’t want or we can highlight why Mississippians are powerless if they can’t vote for the change they want.
