Depends how popular the release is :) From what I can tell this game is going to be much more popular on/near release than the first one.

That's because The Witcher was the first one so had no previous reputation, however overtime built a good fan base,W2 has all the fans waiting for more plus "The Witcher" to live up too.

quick question.
I was going to get the game from BB tomorrow, but I don't think i can wait.
Will I be able to play 12AM may 17th? Can I install it on multiple machine to play? I would like to install it on my laptop so I can take it to work tomorrow and play during my break.
thanks

If you order from GoG, the game will be available at 3am EDT. You can install it on multiple computers. Details here.

What do you guys think this game is better played on KB/M or 360 controller? From what I see the gameplay, it should plays quite well on controller, and thinking to get one 360 controller for this game.

I'm sure either one will work well. I'm going to stick with the KB/M myself, more control probably and I just like it better.

Please come back and post your thoughts when you play people, I'm really keen to see what people think of this game and there doesn't appear to be any reviews yet.

Played for about 45 mins

initial impressions

Graphics: Outstanding, you can see this is a PC exclusive. Very high res and detailed

Music: Very nice from what I've heard from the soundtrack

Voice Acting: Pretty good. Not quite Mass Effect quality but a cut above the original.

Atmosphere: Nicely done, feels like a living world. Although I haven't seen a city yet.

Combat: Does the job. Basically left click for quick attack, right click for strong. Can roll and also cast spells. Standard type of stuff.

Interface: Tidy enough, could do with some tutorials which I haven't really seen much of. (The manual is also a bit vague)

So far so good.

What Stinky said. Ultra is unplayable maxed. 16FPS and jerky. High is 45 to 60 and has a slight hesitation when running. But looks great. Nice boobies, too. Downloaded from GOG.

Steam servers are apparently slammed ATM, I can't even get the download to start.

Read elsewhere that there's no invert mouse option? If true that's kinda sad for a PC only release...

Are any of you playing this with an SLI or Crossfire configuration? I'm playing through the original Witcher right now on SLId 580s and the microstuttering is severe. Microstutter appears to be game dependent, as I don't notice it in many other games.

I'm hoping that the second one lives up to or surpasses the original. I'm really enjoying the original, and am glad to be playing through it now with a sequel available right after I finish it.

Yeah, I played the first game with Crossfire. I had to disable my secondary card, to get the best performance. I had stutter, tearing and lower FPS with two cards.

I'm currently fiddling with the second game right now. No Crossfire profile released for the game with the 11.5 drivers, so I'm actually getting slighly lower FPS with two cards than with just one.

This seems to be the most demanding game ever made with everything on the highest settings, so slightly annoying that I can't use the full power of my rig.

Hope they release a Crossfire profile for this soon!

Also, Aristotelian - I'd recommend everyone to play through the first game (with the combat enhancing mods, though).

Gives good insight into the characters, and story behind what's happening in the second game. Also, you can transfer your Witcher 1 character with the choices you made in the first game, to the second.

I was able to get up early before work and play for about 30 minutes. Here are my initial impressions:

Graphics and Performance - The graphics in this game are orgasmic; however, it's going to bring a lot of systems to their knees. I played on the high setting with everything maxed and was getting about 20 fps. I disabled "ubersampling" and was getting a more playable 30-40 fps. I didn't even attempt the ultra settings. There is a plethora of graphical options, so it's just finding that right combination.

Music and Voice - Seem to be well done, but didn't get too far into the story. Was mostly getting the graphics where I wanted them.

Combat - Definitely different from the first and will take some getting used to. Was able to defeat a few enemies before getting my ass handed to me by a larger group. Very fluid and fun though.

Interface - Seems decent. In combat, you can hold control to slow game speed and switch weapons or signs. They are also hotkeyed if you want to go that route.

Overall it looks awesome. I didn't try importing a save from the original game - will do that when I get off of work. It seems to be worth the wait and I can't wait to dive back into it.

Can't wait to get back home and play, looks like the wait was worth it!

Thanks for your mini reviews guys.

Got my copy from GOG and installed this am.

Everything was fine till I tried to run the game and it wouldn't do anything but display the launncher screen.

Turns out there is a problem with the full screen implementation. My native resolution is 2560x1600.

If set to windowed mode the game will launch. If you want full screen then you need to lower the desktop resolution before launching game. Strange thing is that it will then run at the higher resolution.

You'd of thunk they would have noticed a problem with this issue.
