If you are going to buy an Mitsubishi HDTV dont buy from best buy, at least for 65". The model they carry is a lower model then almost any other competitor, it's a "best buy" model, AND it's more expensive. I got a WS-A65411 for $2599. Best Buy's model is at least two steps lower and sells for $2999.

I think I'm going with a Toshiba or a Phillips.

The sales guy at Best Buy told me the model they had was specifically tailored for their stores, and plus if you look at the model number on the tv, you can't find it on Mitsubishis site. Then the sales guy at the store I bought at confirmed what the person at Best Buy told me.

I heard it in the wall street journal. and since i work at one of their competitors, i was being evaluated and recruited for their PDA sales department.

The 19 were fired for lowered revenue and high employee turnover. (a viciuos cycle)

Ironically. the manager trying to recruit me, was fired.

Apparently, they are losing revenue and business customers to office supply stores especially in the pda and pc peripherals market. They are not able to offer the same freebates and online coupons offered by their competitors.

How come everytime I ask "when will you get more of these items in" I get that same glassy eyed response "A truck is due in tomorrow, but I have no way of knowing what will be in it". Is inventory control that shoddy?

Those with certain access can tell you what's coming in but its a somewhat tedious process and can turn into a pain in the butt. Without fail someone who was told that it would be coming in will wait until 4 days later to come in and get it and then compain if it is out of stock. If you want a guaranteed date buy in on BestBuy.com and select home delivery.

When I worked at BB in Overland Park, KS, 2 levels of managers yelled at me for answering the phone. Aparently, the policy is to just not answer the phone.

PSPs are extended warrenties offered by the retail store, and shrink is a metaphor for stolen goods. I know these terms from working at Staples; they may have a different meaning at Best Buy.

Here's a question for any BB employee:

I just purchased a $400 elph digital camera @ bb with some gift cards I got for Christmas. So, they ask me if I want the extended 4 year warranty. I, of course, told them to stuff it as it was $60 and I usually find that if I put the $60 towards a new digicam in even just 2 years, that money goes a LONG way. So anyway, the guy says "the plan covers the battery which will die in 1 or 2 years". This is actually probably true, small rechargable batteries indeed do not last forever and in 4 years it is definitely going to not hold a charge nearly as well. The question is: is this really true, that the li-ion battery is actually a covered item? (typically NO warranty covers a "consumable" like batteries, rechargable or not) If I get the battery replaced twice I get my psp money back easily which would make it worth it. (All I have to do is take it in and say it doesn't charge well anymore and they give me a new one?) Anyway I was just wondering if this was a big lie or if BB relies on people not coming in to exchange batteries.

thanks

Batteries are covered under the service plan. I have a Canon S30 and when my battery started giving me fits I took it in and got it swapped for a new one.

I've noticed that about several brands and categories, not just TVs. I've noticed that there are certain VCRs, receivers, and various Sony and Toshiba products, that are exclusive to Best Buy stores.

Where do I go to file a complaint about a Best Buy employee?

I bought a receiver at Best Buy, Gainesville a few months ago. When I bought it, they didn't have the controller for me (open box) and gave me a discount - but the sales rep also told me he would order the controller and I could pick it up in a week. He told me the controller cost about 1/2 what I paid for the receiver (big favor).

Anyway, when I went to pick it up, I asked another guy if my controller was available (he was a manager). He started badgering me and was asking "Who ordered you a controller?!" "What is your name?" "You're not supposed to get a controller if it wasn't included."

I told him to blow me and then he shouted, "What?! Best Buy does not order parts for open box for customers." Then he tried to ask me again by grabbing my shoulder and turning me around when I started walking away. (he was a hell of a lot bigger than me - 6' 5" maybe 300lbs) He started glaring at me and I told him it was some short blonde girl. Anyway, I'd like to file a complaint about him.

Also, is there any way to file a "This rep kicks ass" report? The guy that ordered me the controller really helped me out - and he was technically-inclined.

At Staples, their called PRP - Product Replacement Plans, and EPP - Extrended Protection Plans.

The store that I worked at several years ago (154), the guy in business machines sold over $100k in warranty plans in a single year. Came in #1 in the company, and is usually in the top 5.

The one on Archer Rd? I have problems with them too. They screwed me out of a $40 rebate. You're lucky you found a decent sales rep. I was just in to buy a VCR and luckily I had done my research online because the reps in that area were morons. They knew NOTHING about the VCRs and just made things up when I asked a couple of questions. I dismissed them since they were annoying.

Thought I'd dredge this thread up...

BB.com had the VTX Viper 17" LCD on their website, listed 2 rebates, 1 for $50, one for $160.

I put one in my shopping cart last night & tried to check out this am, shows as "out of stock, not available for in store pickup or delivery" It does this without even checking where you want to perform the in store pickup @...

I stopped @ my local BB & found 5 of them on top of the aisle, took one to checkout, tried to buy it and they couldn't give me a freakin extended warranty, blue shirt, black shirt & yellow shirt all said, sorry we can't sell you an extended warranty.

BB just lost a sale (I would have kept it even if the $160 rebate wouldn't have rung up @ the register) bacause of their miserable business practices...

I know I don't have the god given right to make BB lose money, but don't you think that listing a rebate(s), pulling the item & saying it's not in stock (when it is), changing the rebate expiration dates, and not even offering an extended warranty on an item is over the top even for BB?

Hmm.. 3 zip codes, 3 results like that.. maybe I should go in person. :\

Next question.

What's the percentage of people who fill out applications with resumes, getting a job at Best Buy?

Dude, I worked at that one last year. I didn't last more than 6 months. It's pretty damn easy to get the job. You just fill out the application at the website, then no matter what they will call you and tell you to attend a job fair, and then go through some BS interviews and you get selected out of the pool of people that come. God I hated that place. Looking back, if I had the choice of doing it all over again... I wouldn't of appplied/accepted the job.
