if it says you will be notified, then you will be called in for an interview... congrats :D

they will have you fill out a paper application, but thats just so they have it on record. you will probably be interviewed by the operations manager, and if you pass that interview, you will then be interviewed by the general manager.

95% of all managers within best buy are people who moved up within the company. you have to be pretty darn special to get hired in as a manager. the only manager i know that got hired is our merchandise manager, who got hired in after service merchandise went out of business cuz he was their merch manager for 11 years.

How much $ do sales people (decent ones, not the top or bottom performers) realistically make? Also, how much $ do "techs" make?

your pay is based on your experience. I'm sure they're willing to make exceptions for special circumstances if need be.

I guess this would kind of make sense especially after seeing printer company reps from 3 corporations in the printer aisle a few months ago.

I just thought that was interesting, maybe it isn't even true.

For the most part, I think so. I was a Microsoft representative for Xbox for a few months and we had to basically do that. Several of the other Xbox reps I talked to at the training event in Dallas were reps for other companies (Nintendo, HP, Lexmark, Sony, etc.) and mentioned the same thing about Best Buy.

However, I think they still have an inventory...they keep track of thefts, etc. It isn't the manufacturers job to stop theft and sell products when they aren't there.

Yeah, the Best Buy dudes get paid a "space fee" for allocating shelf and endcap space for displaying the products and use that to work on loss prevention, employees selling and accepting returns of the product, stocking and straightening the shelves, etc.

However, the zayened dude says that this isn't true. Who knows.

this cant be true. best buy actually pays the companies for their inventory. that is why managers can set open box prices, give empoyee discounts, etc... the planeogram of where the products are placed in the store is up to the merch manager, not the manufacturers of the products. reps from canon or sharp aquos tv's are just there to help sell the product.

You usually have 30 days to do the price matching/adjustment. If they won't hook you up with the gift card, go to your car and bring back the printer and tell them you'd like to return it, then go and purchase it again.

This works as long as the stuff is less than 30 days old.

Assume a decent amount of experience in both retail and "tech". (Tech in quotes, because I don't know the specifics of the jobs they have available, and I'm too lazy to look them up.)

they have inventory but a lot of stuff is sold on consignment, which means best buy doesn't pay for it until they sell it. a lot of places operate that way.

outside of philly. Around here, BB "graduates" go to Circuit, Circuit "failures" got to BB, and Circuit "graduates" go to tweeter(only the aud/vid, computers stay there)

Yeah. Why don't their sales people know their product or care?

One kid couldn't tell me how many inputs were on the back of a particular TV and seemed generally unwilling to move it out to look.

See ya...

How much money are you making for advertising for BB. And if a lot, how do I get your job? (IE, stay athome and Nef about BB all day)

Also, how long after you purchase an item do you have to PM it. And do you have to PM at the saem store you bought it from?

you can't have my job :p
and you have 30 days to price match, and it can only be an add of a close competitor, and cant be an online retailer.
no, you dont have to price match at the same best buy you bought it from.

Why is the "on-line ordering-in store pickup" so convoluted & lengthy?

I can do it @ Office Depot & they have my item up front & the cashier (@ the customer service counter) can usually turn around & pick up my item & hand it to me, & it's as speedy or faster than if I were to walk into OD & find the item myself.

@ BB, It takes 2-3X longer than if I were to find the item & bring it to a cashier.

Also, why doesn't BB just give the 110% PM up front like Staples?

1.) Will you rat out anyone to BB if someone finds an insane deal? I.E. will you tell corporate about a price mistake?

2.) What is your job at BB?

3.) Are the cameras being actively watched, or are they just recording?
