Seems like many people don't like Negan. I do t mind him and in fact I think he's kinda funny.

The producers have already stated that Negan is going to be around until season 8.

And apparently the ratings agree with you. http://www.cnn.com/2016/12/07/entertainment/walking-dead-dystopian-dramas/index.html

I stopped watching partway through the opening episode this season. Just not interested in watching that kind of brutality once, let alone on a weekly basis.

Nobody has died since that episode, but you're certainly not the only one to stop watching just in case they do something like that again. IMO the declining ratings might most likely be from the fact that we're almost at the midseason finale and very little has happened after that first episode. I personally think the episodes with Negan this season are better than almost anything in the last season or two, but not everyone feels that way.

It's definitely disjointed, and the episode with Tara finding yet ANOTHER group made it even more disjointed than I thought it was going to be. I think that was the last straw with a lot of people... we already have "The Kingdom" which has had one episode this season

I think that article does key in on a good point though, there's more options for good original dramas right now than at the peak of TWD's popularity. It might not be something specific about this season, other than it's just "more of the same" without being good enough to keep people interested for this long. Other newer shows are getting more attention, which they sound like they deserve.

Kirkman was saying that the show could go on for years. That could change if the ratings continue to stay low.

I don't get the hate for this season. Much more interesting than anything they've done for a few years. The show has NEVER been that good or engaging. It's always been a matter of it is 'just good enough' to make you keep watching for something exciting to happen. I think maybe people are just getting tired of the same old thing.

The direction of the show has shifted. It used to be a small group just trying to survive and randomly being fed to the meat grinder. Now they're rebuilding society, and are mostly safe. The seasons everyone's loved have had them on the run. Every time they've put down roots, people start to get annoyed. Suddenly characters are more focused on coupling up or being upset because someone doesn't want them. While Negan does add a level of tension as he's the big bad of the show now, he is a been here and done that with the Gov. It's also losing it's luster because we know that Rick and Co will over come Negan. It's just a matter of time, and then what? Long talks about trade routes between the colonies? While I get this is what would happen in the real world if people survived such an event, it doesn't make for interesting TV... unless you want Mad Men type drama complete with long winded monologues. If that's the case.. you'll be happy

Unless you have a nemesis, you are left with..well nothing interesting. The show has never been about the zombies, and people seem to forget that. At this point it is simply a matter of who dies next and how.

I admit I do like how they focus each episode on one or 2 characters this season...which is a nice change. As someone who has read every Deathlands book, I expect a bit more badassery from Rick and the gang.

As bad as Negan is (and he's bad) what's killing the show for me is the complete lack of flow or continuity. There's no sense of connection from episode to episode, every week it's a new tangent. You have the showdown between the main group and the Saviors where Abe and Glenn get whacked. Great, a launching point for an interesting story arc.

Then the next episode abandons that story completely and it's all Carol and Morgan at the Kingdom.

Then the next episode abandons both of those stories and it's all Daryl as prisoner

Next episode back to the main group.

Next episode skips all of that and it's almost all Maggie and Sasha at Hilltop

Then a 100% Tara episode. Tara?!?!?!?

Then some main group, some Saviors, but no Maggie/Sasha, no Carol/Morgan, no Hilltop, no the Kingdom.

Yawn

It's like every time something interesting happens or there's a good episode about the storylines that most of the viewers care about it's a signal for everyone to take a couple of weeks off because the next couple of shows will be throwaways where nothing happens. All of the important events in this season could have been condensed into an hour or less. The rest has been jumping from filler to filler where each episode stands alone completely unrelated to the episode that preceded it.

Fuck this show. Fucking torture porn.

Load of complete fucking bullshit at this point. Turn all the main characters into pussies. No wonder ratings are so much lower since the premiere.

Torture porn? You know how many times they showed people's intestines getting eaten on this show? It's not new

I wish you'd just put your money where your mouth is and quit watching just so we didn't have to see you bitch so much. It's just a TV show FFS

Na, too much invested at this point and nothing else is on. But yay for people who have different opinions. For example, you like it and make a point of pointing it out very often, and I don't rail on you for doing so.

P.S. Ignore feature works wonders if I bitch too much.

Looked up the episode list for this season and it shows 8 episodes. I thought it was 6. Second half of this season may finally get somewhere after seeing tonight's ending. That's 8 episodes of "Neegan is bad" and seeing main characters murdered/beaten without even putting up a fight. The only break was in episode 6 with Tara.

This is what I meant by "torture porn" right after Neegan & Co. beat a main-ish character, gut another side character, capped one more, then threatened another one or two main characters. Thin or not progressing plot, just violence/gore with no payoff, and constantly being teased with will he or won't he -- which is uncharacteristic after 6 seasons of seeing these main characters fight for everything.

Its not all bad, I think its meant to show that Negan's "only half" deal is a bad one and could break at any time for Kingdom, has broken twice for Hilltop with the stabbing and night zombie attack etc. I like the scene where Rick figuratively gets his balls back when he retrieves his python from Darryl.

I get it, and don't REALLY care, but am always confused when people seem to really dislike a show but follow it anyway. Seems like an odd use of time to set aside 60-90 minutes each week for something that you get nothing out of.

Granted the only reason I'm still watching is because it's one of the few I watch with the girlfriend, but last season I was ready to call it quits too. Glad I didn't though.

I'm not reading this thread too much because I have to catch up. I will say for all the people saying ratings have slipped, its on its 7th season. Only a handful of shows make it to 7 seasons and only a handful of them manage to grow the whole time.

Wait until they intro the whispers.

I'm not going to go into this group because I know there are people who haven't read the comics.
