What I usually do with this thread is to point out good prices on memory foam pillows. But it is just waaaay too hard to say "this is a good pillow" or "I love this one" because I've learned over the past year that everyone likes something different. Memory Foam Pillows really do have the "Goldilocks Syndrome." Of course this holds true for any pillow (which is why a lot of places sell "soft," "medium," "firm," etc.).

So the best thing to do is read this thread for the most "current" deals and hopefully they are in a B&M store that you can go and actually feel the pillow (AND have the ability to return it if you hate it). Brookstone has an *Excellent* return policy on Tempur-Pedic pillows. I tried that new "Comfortpillow" that they have and HATED it. I returned it after two weeks with NO questions asked.

Bed Bath & Beyond also seems to have a pretty good return policy, as does Linens N Things.

The place that you will be stuck though is eBay....you're pretty much buying it for good (clean it up and give it as a gift if you don't like it...evil!!! heh heh). For instance the pillow that I praised only last Friday is now already sucking. It's getting HARDER every day! I've never seen foam start to get so hard...and so quickly. I really have to squeese it now to get it to soften. I do notice that by morning it feels better though. So maybe it has something to do with the colder weather here in SoCal.

At any rate, I still say that The Sharper Image Memory Foam pillow is my favorite. But for some reason, the ViscoElastic Bug has bitten me again and I've started ordering different versions from eBay. As I mentioned I got that Chinese one on Friday (the hard one), and now I've ordered one from eBay called the "Mör by Somnigbjorn" Swedish Memory Foam Pillow. They have pretty nice ads on eBay, so I decided to order. This pillow is different because it is has a "Lavender Scented" case. I know that I wouldn't like that, so I asked if I could get it without the "scent" and they said that would be fine. I should have it by Friday (a new pillow every week I say!!! heh heh). This company just started on eBay (they have ZERO feedback) so hopefully I won't get screwed and end up with $30 of air.

So keep checking the thread for good deals and try it out in the store! That's the best I can say.

Incidentally, the only deal on pillows I know of right now is this from smartbargains:
Comfort Zone Memory Foam Pillow $24.99. This is the same pillow as the Isotonic, and the same one sold at JCPenney (also called Comfort Zone) and at Macy's (Charter Collection Memory Foam Pillow). Anything that states it is made by the Carpenter Company is pretty good (although personally, Isotonic Pillows are too thick and dense for me). Isotonic pillows usually sell for about $59.99 so this deal at SmartBargains is pretty dang good.

Hope that helps!

What's the difference between a latex pillow and isotonic pillow?

Also I see that there are new Sensus isotonic 5lb density. Are those really good then?

Latex is more like sleeping on a balloon. It has no memory effect at all and *instantly* returns back to its original shape. The smell makes me gag. heh heh

I've never heard of Sensus Isotonic Memory Foam Pillows. Where did you see them? Oh, something exciting! ;)

Yet another version of the Isotonic Pillow is on sale, this time at Macy's:

Charter Club Memory Foam Pillow.

It is currently $39.99 on their website, and through the end of Saturday (4/19) it is $33.99 in store.

Enjoy!

P.S. I think my thread is dying. :(

I got my "Mör by Somnigbjorn" Swedish Memory Foam memory foam pillow today. It's great, especially if you like The Sharper Image Pillow. It's the *exact* same pillow. They must use the same manfacturer. So it's a better value than buying it at Sharper Image ($29.99 versus $59.99).

I tried finding this vendor on eBay, Atrac, and could not find them. Where did you find them? Under what heading?

Do you just buy pillows or you buy mattresses and toppers also?

You say latex pillows are really springy, would they be similar to the Tempur Pedic classic pillow? If they are I hate them.
There are tons of ebay sellers selling pillows which are "like" Tempur pedic's, but I wonder how good they are.

But if anyone wants a latex pillow, bed bath & beyond seems to have a good price.

I think the key is to get something that is 5lbs. density or above anything else just feels like sponge and it's very light. But, like atrac said, go to the local store to try them out first so may return it if you don't like it. These pillows are heavy and cost a lot to ship +$10 usually.

Might want to mention that Somnigbjorn is charging $9.95 for shipping, so actual comparison is $39.94 versus $59.99(+tax). Obviously still a better deal, but shipping in the amount of an additional 33% seems worth noting.

I was actually going to mention that, but then remembered that Sharper Image also charges for shipping as well (unless you are lucky enough to live by a city that has a B&M store).

There's no accounting for accounting! ;)

Latex Pillow

I recently purchased a 4lb Density "Carpenter" Topper from eBay and it's great. It's 3" thick and the change is very noticable.

Latex pillows are even more springy than the now discontinued "Classic" Tempur-Pedic Pillow. It's definately like sleeping on a balloon (including the smell).

Atrac,

I just bought my first memory foam pillow from JCPenney, in part on the recollection that you once liked it, and in part because I was there and it was on sale. I returned it, both because it was too firm for me and because I am not a fan of the "contour" shape. I sleep sort of on my side and sort of on my stomach.

Can you suggest another memory foam pillow that is softer than the one from Penneys and that has a more conventional pillow shape?

Thanks.

In hindsight, I agree that the Isotonic/Carpenter made contour pillows are too firm. It's not that they are dense, it's just that they don't stay squished down as much. It's like there is too much resistance. But that of course is only my opinion!

From what you describe, I'd definately try out The IsoPerfect pillow from Bed Bath & Beyond. It's a standard shaped pillow and has very soft foam (almost like bread dough). If you like it, you can order it from Mark's Bedding on here. He has a good price. I also noticed that JC Penney is going to start selling a "Perfect Pillow" so since they carry Carpenter made products, It'll probably be on sale for around the same price as their "Comfort Zone" pillow.

Actually, I'm going to remove this post. I am not the Almighty Deity who can ruin someone's business. ;)

Sorry that LuNoTiCK's post (next one after mine) sounds a little weird now, but you can get the idea from it what I had posted.

Did you mention something bad about one of the pillows you just bought? I mean if there is something wrong with the product you bought no reason not to mention it! :)

I am still trying to figure out which pillow to buy... too many choices!!! But in the meantime... wanted to drop a big Thank You! for starting this thread and keeping it up to date!

The best is Tempur-Pedic----Bar NONE! Just right! ;)

Oh, I had just named a specific seller on eBay who is getting sued by Tempur-Pedic for selling "used" pillows yet advertising them as "store demos." Apparently Tempur-Pedic requires that any customer returns should be *destroyed* or returned to them, not resold.

So it made me wonder, where are these sellers getting these "deep discounted" Tempur-Pedic pillows? Do they have an "insider" at a Brookstone Store that are siphoning out the store returns, or are they Dumpster Diving? At any rate, I didn't think that I was one to pass judgement.

I also felt bad putting the spotlight on a specific seller, which would hurt their business. Having not majored in journalism, I'm not one for stirring the pot. ;)

At any rate, I appreciate your kinds words about this thread. I can't believe people still post to it and, more importantly, that it hasn't been locked!?!?

I just thought I'd add my $.02 regarding the Carpenter-made JCPenney pillows. On my bed I have a Carpenter-made Isotonic (contoured, standard) right next to the JCPenney pillow (contoured, standard). I can say without a doubt that the JCPenney pillow is much harder/firmer/stiffer/less giving/however you wanna put it. I prefer the Isotonic.

Physically they are very similar though there are differences. The JCP pillow has sharper "edges" (different mold) and is flat on the bottom. The Isotonic has a ridged bottom and definitely feels moister and squishier. You know what I mean. I wonder if JCP requested a variation on Carpenter's normal pillow (if there is one) because the difference is quite noticeable. I would characterize the JCP pillow as firmer than Tempurpedics - which are firmer than Isotonics. One other difference: Though the Carpenter tags are very similar, the Isotonic lists an address in Russellville, KY while the JCP has an Altoona, PA address.

Both pillows go for $60, though I got two of the JCPs on one of their 2-for-1 deals and the Isotonic for 20% off at BB&B. I gave the other JCP to my girlfriend and she loves it - so I guess some people would like it.

Ok, I'll go get a life now.
