actually John I just assumed it was checking the tat. I am using core temp beta .94 to see my individual core temps. It also lists the maximum core temp can go before you blow an internal diode? 85C

Here's a link

CoreTemp Beta .94

Thnaks for that file I'm gonna give it a shot. I have mine set up basically the same as yours right now. Just cloning my p-ata data over to the s-ata raid to see what that works like on this board.

adder, that oc on the 7900gs seems pretty insane, i can't even get my 7900gt at 520 to go to 525 w/o seeing artifacts on 3dmark06, and i have a zalman vf900cu sitting on it.

did you do any volt mod on urs?

not yet I haven't :) actually though i was pretty surprised too!!! used atitool to oc it and check for stability.

Supposedly from what I have read they are able to OC higher but have the missing quad pixel pipe and 1 vertex shader. got it from newegg for 149 as a recon, I have to say I am very pleased.

Is there a place we can put up some screen shots. I wanted to show you all this chip I have. At 430 x 8 3440 this think does not even break a sweat CPU Temp 36c Core 1 27c Core 2 27c thing is amazing and I have checked it with Core Temp, Probe, and my ThermoHawk 200 Thermal Sensor and to top it all off CPU fan is only at 1350rpms The NB temp was at 106f at that speed

Those are good temps

I just tried 450x8 lost my OC profiles in the bios date went back to Jan 1 2006 Windows said I needed to repair a file. Nvidiia chipset was trying to detect a disk array when I don't have a raid. I had to manually reset all by bios setting, booted and everything was normal again. Figure that one out. Another hole at 1800. adder1971 did you try 450 last night. Wish they had put a voltage setting for the SB.

yeah it is in one of these ranadom posts of mine one sec

according to the link I IM'd ya i dont even think mine uses D9 chips at all.

got my best super pi yet with cpu at 3.7ghz 462x5 450x8 seems to be another memory hole as i was unable to stabilize at 3.6 but 3.7 is fine???

yeah that chip is something else. you have the bios vdimm set to 1..325? and 412.5x8?

i'd like to give it a shot to compare but it seems very low :)

all the better to OC with

Hello,
I just built myself a new rig using this mobo a couple days ago. I hate to change topic in this extremely informative thread but I have some driver questions. Which drivers and in what order did you install the devices? While I was installing Windows the only thing it found was the 1394 net adaptor. I still had loads of devices it didn't install and they were all a bit obscure so I installed the nforce drivers first. Then it asked me to install the nvidia SW driver and firewall with network access manager. I dont know anything about those so I went ahead and installed them then video and sound but theres still a couple devices not installed, namely, "PCI device" and "Unknown Device". I disabled the onboard HD Audio so I dont know if its finding that. Could one of them be a RAID controller? Also, is the SW driver and firewall with NAM any good? I now have this safely remove hardware icon for my C: drive(!) of all things and my pings seem to have went up and my download speeds went down. Should I have just installed the LAN driver from Asus's website and use a better firewall like Outpost? Also, how can I tell all the devices apart when I'm looking at them in the device manager? Sorry for all the questions but it's my first build in about 7 years so I'm kinda confused. Thanks for any help.

I believe the unknown device is nvraidbus (nforce raid class controller). i had to install that to get my pc to see my s-ata drives. i don't believe it is just for raid. i think the pci device is realtek audio i think. You can check them by going to device manager and right clicking on them and going to properties, and then clicking on the details tab. if ti isnt clear just let us know what it says and we can try to figure it out.

i used the latest nforce direct from nvidia to install the raidbus.

and BTW thats a nice lookin setup you have there.

i too have noticed higher pings in games since my last setup, tho i don't know about download speeds. i'm already running the latest nforce chipset drivers, i guess an update for our chipset in the future will address this issue.

nice!!!

i tried what you had 412.5 x8 and i could not get it stable at all very crazy stuff. even with enough volts for 3.5 it wouldnt work.

i havent done any ping testing but on speakeasy i am getting upwards of 9 megabits download!! my other setup was lucky pushing 6 meg. I dont know if it's cause it is a gigabit adapter, increased cpu overhead or what but i was very suprised.

Don't use the firewall that comes with the CD. A lot of people are having problems with it. Use windows firewall less annoying than any of them and I thing it does as well of a job as long as you run your windows update. Windows Defender for spyware and it doesn't bug me either. I also disable the JMicorn controller which is a raid controller. Had a hell of a time with that controller on my P5B deluxe. Your PCI device is probably the Lan Diver if you have problems run windows restore to the point before you started adding the drivers and reinstall them again starting with the lan driver

Were you using the same voltages for 470x8 as 7x500?
I am pretty good at taking that battery out now. I even kept that lolly pop stick in my tool bag
My P5B Deluxe is one sec faster in Super Pi's 3DMarks are close I'd give the edge to the P5N-E

Thanks for all the help. I checked out the device properties and googled them and I found out the "PCI Device" is the JMicron RAID controller which I havent installed. The "Unkown Device" is a some ACPI thing that gets taken care of when you install AIBooster or something like that. I got all my drivers off the website and didn't even use the motherboard CD. I guess that backfired because Asus hasn't put up all the utilities there yet. I'm not going to use the RAID for now so it wont hurt anything if it just sits there right? The nForce drivers only gave me an option to install an SMBus thing, the ethernet driver, the firewall and network access manager, and the IDE SW driver. So the only thing worth installing there is the SMBus thing? Is the RIS ethernet driver off the Asus website better than nvidia's? Sadly, I turned off Windows restore. Maybe a reinstall is in order. Only takes about 20 min :)

edit: I am enjoying this rig quite a bit regardless. You should have seen what I was using before. I was stuck with an old 1.5 Ghz Pentium 4 (Williamette), Intel 845 mobo, 1GB of PC2100, a Radeon 8500, and broken sound for the last two years.

I don't install any of Asus software other than The drivers for the board. Probe II only for comparing Temps

Ah, maybe the ACPI is in ProbeII then...

I just usually get the latest nvidia drivers off their site. anything left i figure must be on the mobo cd. my other pc is an nforceII ultra and it has worked great doing it that way.

yeah i did use the same voltage for both, never would even get into windows

i tell ya what once was too many for me :) i was starting to sweat a little on that one.

ive reverted to a nice and leisurely 3.390ghz lol lets me keep my cpu and nb cooler with a very minimal performance drop. once we get a new bios i think i'm gonna ramp it up again and see what it can really do.

Can you post a link for Nvidia drivers for the 650i
My P5B deluxe does Super Pi at 425x8 1mb in 16.35sec

Yea, me to. Four times I had to reset last night. We have some good options in the 400 - 500 range no need to go to crazy 425 - 440 are nice settings. I don't pop the battery out all the way any more I just push that clip down until the batt pops up and push on one edge so it not making contact and than reset and just push the batt back in till clicks. done

I have been following this thread for a bit. Just wondering if we ever decided what memory is the best to use with this board.

i'm not sure whats best with the board other than the ones listed in the manual. I know some people have experienced issues running some mem at manufacturer suggested timings. mine have been fine in that respect. i havent seen a lot of performance increase or decrease regarding timings, so the cheapest set listed in the manual may be the best bet. here's a link for the manual.
