If one cooks some meat over a heat source, whether it is high temperature and direct, or lower temp and indirect, and use a dry rub on the meat, is this still considered BBQ?
Does the fuel source have to be smokey wood to constitute BBQ?

Must one use a tomato based sauce to constitute BBQ?

Let the discussion commence...

Motivation to above answers:
Q1: The heat source does not matter. It is energy transfer. It is how the energy is used which is one part of the BBQ.
Q2: You could use camel or elephant dung too. Or glowing stones. or a welding torch.
Q3: why the tomato? As long as there is sufficient fat or oil in ther meat or sauce the vegetable is neither necessary nor mandatory. Check mongolian BBQ or Sami BBQ. none of them uses tomatoes ...
C1: discussion started.

1) cooked = cooked, ergo, yes.

2) Preferably, but not necessary. (Gas grills might still be considered BBQ, but you just might not be respected in the morning)

3) No.

Anyone know if you can eat coyote? Recipes would be cool too, especially campfire based (not grill based).

I don't think I'd like those temperatures in August Petrus. We had about 12 (c) this morning. Right now it is about 29 (c).
