Slightly off topic bu just a question for the mechanics in here... can i re use a fork crown race? i want to switch forks but i dont want to go through the trouble of buying and reinstalling a new headset just because of that... will the crown race still be pressed fit onto the new fork or will it be loose fitting? Thanks guys. 🙂

As long as the crown is the same size it should work just fine. Getting them OFF on the other hand can sometimes be a major bitch! The fork manufactures don't seem to put much thought into REMOVING the damn things...

On another topic.

My new hubs showed up today. So my old wheel set is for sale if anyone wants them. 😉

If interested LMK and I'll get the full specs to whomever wants them.

The crown race is a major pain to remove. There is a bigass expensive tool to do this 🙁 . Just take a somewhat small junk screwdriver and a rubber hammer. Go easy with light taps all the way around. You will win. It took me 45 mins once. :Q
Installing the star nut without a proper tool is a challenge too. It can be done but it's a major PITA.

My LBS (Supergo) installs a crown race + nut for $15 - $20 (or sometimes for free) depending on who does it.

I've tried it many times on the trail. It feels like a hardtail on the flats, so it's quick. I would personally go all out either way. Pure FS or pure Hardtail.

My team's main bike sponsor is Specialized....I may have to pester the manager for a deal on a new mountain bike next year as mine is getting rather long in the tooth.

I'll give Supergo a call tomorrow... i generally try to avoid those guys since some of them dont seem to put much care about the bikes theyre working on... 🙁

For some reason... the s-works frame like yours... never come in my size on eBay... :frown: its either a 50 or a 56... 🙁 ...and if a 52 or 54 shows up it ends up costing $700... 🙁

Remember that the frame retailed for $1400 - $1600 in 2003. They still have the same model but is is now called the S-Works E5 (could be S-Works Langster) and retails for $1090 (here) after being replaced by the S-Works Tarmac, here.

Supergo bought the local shop here (Full Cycle) and kept the same staff with mechanics so here in Tucson I've got no problems with them.

yeah... i think the only difference between last years and this years frame is the paintjob...

i was thinking... if i end up with that frame... i only have full 105 group... on an S-works... hahaha... 😕 what a poser... yeah anyway... i should keep saving my pennies and stop this snowballing hobby... 🙁

Nothing wrong with that if you ask me. Just save and upgrade. I think I'm the bigger poser. Most riders kick my a$$ (god damn 6'3" @ 265lbs). You might kick my a$$ to on a S-Works w 105 components.

How come you have front disc but rear calipers? I imagine the fronts brake alot faster. Don't you want them to be the same so you are used to the consistancy?

Looks like the rear hub isn't disk ready maybe he was waiting to upgrade hubs😀

Looks like the rear hub isn't disk ready maybe he was waiting to upgrade hubs😀
