Slightly off topic bu just a question for the mechanics in here... can i re use a fork crown race? i want to switch forks but i dont want to go through the trouble of buying and reinstalling a new headset just because of that... will the crown race still be pressed fit onto the new fork or will it be loose fitting? Thanks guys. :)

As long as the crown is the same size it should work just fine. Getting them OFF on the other hand can sometimes be a major bitch! The fork manufactures don't seem to put much thought into REMOVING the damn things...

On another topic.

My new hubs showed up today. So my old wheel set is for sale if anyone wants them. ;)

If interested LMK and I'll get the full specs to whomever wants them.

thanks... :D ...this is my first time trying this out and im quite uncomfortable tapping it out with a screwdriver and a hammer and not ding the steerer... :(

my LBS wants $40 to install a fork... but all i need is to get the crown off and install a star nut on the new one... :( i dont have the tool to that one either. *sigh*

Then the scary part comes. Going downhill you go so fast, even if you don't pedal. Of course I slow myself down so I hit the brakes every 20 seconds or so, so that I don't build up too much speed. The downside to this of course is you wear down your brake pads really fast.

I am not sure how people do it. I go down maybe 3-4 blocks and get scared. Imagine going down 7 miles or so of a fire road.

It's loads of fun! I've hit 39mph downhill on my road bike on city streets. I have no idea what I've done on trails but I would estimate around 20-25 and I've hit small jumps at those speed and got some serious air! It is great fun. I've also ridden some really really steep downhills where I've just ridden the brakes all the way down. I'm not crazy after all...:D

The crown race is a major pain to remove. There is a bigass expensive tool to do this :( . Just take a somewhat small junk screwdriver and a rubber hammer. Go easy with light taps all the way around. You will win. It took me 45 mins once. :Q
Installing the star nut without a proper tool is a challenge too. It can be done but it's a major PITA.

My LBS (Supergo) installs a crown race + nut for $15 - $20 (or sometimes for free) depending on who does it.

(Btw, I'm watching OLN now. The road to Tour the Frandce 2004)

Epic ride

Can't wait to ride it this weekend.

Nice!

I've tried it many times on the trail. It feels like a hardtail on the flats, so it's quick. I would personally go all out either way. Pure FS or pure Hardtail.
My team's main bike sponsor is Specialized....I may have to pester the manager for a deal on a new mountain bike next year as mine is getting rather long in the tooth.

ooooh... can you get me a deal for an s-works frame?... jk. :D :p :(

Check eBay ;)

2004 S-Works road frame for $625
S-Works M4 road frame for $390
New S-Works FSR MTB frame
Another S-Works Epic

For some reason... the s-works frame like yours... never come in my size on eBay... :frown: its either a 50 or a 56... :( ...and if a 52 or 54 shows up it ends up costing $700... :(

Supergo bought the local shop here (Full Cycle) and kept the same staff with mechanics so here in Tucson I've got no problems with them.

ok i know it shouldnt matter but i would rather have it red like yours... :p ;)

yeah... i think the only difference between last years and this years frame is the paintjob...

i was thinking... if i end up with that frame... i only have full 105 group... on an S-works... hahaha... what a poser... yeah anyway... i should keep saving my pennies and stop this snowballing hobby... :(

Nothing wrong with that if you ask me. Just save and upgrade. I think I'm the bigger poser. Most riders kick my a$$ (god damn 6'3" @ 265lbs). You might kick my a$$ to on a S-Works w 105 components.

105 is still good stuff my friend.

Makes sense. It's comfortable with a solid grip around the hoods.

How come you have front disc but rear calipers? I imagine the fronts brake alot faster. Don't you want them to be the same so you are used to the consistancy?

Looks like the rear hub isn't disk ready maybe he was waiting to upgrade hubs:D

BINGO!

My new hubs just came yesterday, so NOW I can build my new wheels and get the rear disk going. :)
