Gamecube isn't a failure, it is a pretty decent system, you just don't like it because you can't pirate games for it. Actually it is a pretty decent system, I might have to pick one up for myself with games like metroid prime, and resident evil. That $149 for gc and metroid prime at ebgames.com is a good deal.

BS, Xbox's primary target isn't Japan...

Ditto, you won't regret it. I just finished Metroid Prime on normal two days ago and started on hard mode today. Excellent game. Now, a month wait till Wind Waker.

Personally I think the wind waker looks horrible. Cell Shading just doesnt look good for that type of game...however it will sell well with the kiddies because it looks similar to a comic book and it's "different"

Nintendo won't sell nearly as many wind waker games than they did with ocarina of time.

EA recently said it's considering not making any more games for the Gamecube due to slow sales.

Since they lost market share, they're throwing in a game for free.

I think they'll still be as popular as Xbox. They're very competitive.

While I don't disagree that the design of the Gamecube doesn't make it look like some horrible electronic device that could hold a bomb or be used as a weapon (XBox) perfect for "adults", it isn't that bad at all. It's small, compact, and cleanly layed out. Everyone talks about how Nintendo appeals mostly to little kids and that the main video game market wants a more "mature" game base. I say, Nintendo is easily the most mature gaming system there is. Not in that it contains blood and guts games, rather, for the lack thereof. Turn on the TV to your favorite sitcom where a young adult or some dorky adults are playing video games. They brag about the awesome effect they get when they blow a guy's head off. Notice that also, the main video game players are males. Getting the picture now? Gamers want gratuitously and realistically violent games because it appeals to their testosterone rush, not necessarily anything about "mature" tastes. It's the same principle behind Playboys. Real men with girlfriends don't need them. On the other hand, little kids and losers *coughcough* dream of getting their hands on one (or at least have found the internet, which must be really hurting Playboy's income). Nintendo doesn't really pander to that level, they design games people are genuinely interested in because they're genuinely interesting, quite a concept. While people talk about that cool "juggle" move in an only fairly decent game like Devil May Cry 2, the original titles produced for the Gamecube get largely overlooked. Appealing to base desires has never made anything "adult" in my opinion.

Tallgeese- I have to question your sanity on wanting to buy a $200 game.
I will agree that many of the ones you listed are good as I have played many of them, but Nintendo makes the best games period. Unfortunately the success of Nintendo as a publisher is hurting themselves as people are only buying Nintendo based games. I am hoping that publishers will step up their quality rather than abandon the Gamecube.

About the quality of games.................Gamepro Feb. '03 magazine had its 11 reviewers list the "Top 10" games of the year, regardless of platform (i.e. PC, Xbox, PS2, GC).

Number of different games in the Top 10 lists of the 11 Pro Reviewers:

PC: 5
Gamecube: 12
Xbox: 18
PS2: 28

The games that were on more than one of the 2002 Top 10 lists of the 11 reviewers were:

Xbox [6 total]: Splinter Cell(4), Soccer Slam(2), Steel Battalion(3), Hitman 2(2), Jet Set Radio(3), Bloodraye(2)
Gamecube [4 total]: Eternal Darkness(5), Metroid Prime(5), Animal Crossing(5), Super Mario Sunshine(3)
PS2 [11 total]: Way of Samurai(4), Shinobi(4), Ratchet & Clank(3), Medal of Honor: Frontline(2), Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2(3), Tony Hawk 4(2), GTA: Vice City(5), Aggressive Inline(2), Suikoden3(2), Kingdom Hearts(3), Onimusha 2(2)
PC [0 total]: none

-------------------------------------------
From this list, you can see that while PS2 dominates in the sheer number of releases and number of quality games due to their dominant market share, Gamecube and Xbox do proportionately very decently as they account for the other 1/2 of the market--30 combined Top 10 games vs Ps2's 28.

It is truly important to have market share as the number of quality games correlate rather proportionately to the market share. Greater unit market share=more quality games.

If you count "instant classic" games as being a game on more than 4 of the 11 reviewers TOP 10 lists, Gamecube tied PS2 with 3 each. Xbox had one game on 4 TOP 10 lists.

Bah. They all have their own little niche in the market and their all great systems and I wish I could own them all.

Just pick whatever you like most and get over it. We all don't like the same things and we never will.

The goal is to have 2 different systems for game variety.

I have the Xbox for the livingroom and GC for the bedroom (which works well from the bed with the awesome Wavebird wireless controller)

I just bought a Gamecube tonight. This is my first "next generation" console and will supplant my Dreamcast. I bought the N64 the day it came out and I was very happy with that system. Granted, it didn't have the huge library of the PS1 but come on: Super Mario64, Zelda: Ocarina, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Wave Race, Banjo-Kazooie, Conker's...if those were the only games ever released I would have still been satisfied. How could anyone call themselves a gamer and never play Zelda: Ocarina Of Time? :Q I'd buy the N64 just for that game.

I bought the GC for similar reasons. Games. Metroid Prime, Zelda:Wind Waker, SSBM, Mario Sunshine, Eternal Darkness, Pikmin, Animal Crossing...just to start. XBOX and PS2 have their share of top-notch games, too, and I'm not trying to discredit them but it would be false to say the GC isn't in their league.

And then there's the pricing slant: I bought a GC and Metriod Prime for $139. With PS2/XBOX you are looking at $219 or more for the same setup.

Designwise, I admire the Gamecube and its economy of size. I still can't see owning the USS XBOX because I wouldn't know where to dock the ship. My PC takes up enough room; I don't need another that just plays games! But anyway, the Gamecube looks crisp and sweet. The mini-DVD discs are great. I just like the scaled down size of everything. Consoles are toys, in my mind, and I don't mind my consoles looking the part. If I want to go online I can use my PC and if I want to watch DVDs I have 2 dedicated DVD players.

Gamecube may not have the sales success of the PS2 but I think you'll find a lot of very happy Gamecube owners. I love my Dreamcast too and it was a sales failure.

LOL...no harm in that.
It's been done before :p

BTW: Being a hardcore Mech fan and a total hardware whore is a dangerous combo!
BTW2: I still have a genuine Dreamcast Twin Stick controller for sale...itself a testament to my "insanity."
