Dude, like the GameCube controller is the best thing I've put in my hands since wang.. I mean, best thing since wang, that's an accomplishment.

I just picked up a GC. it's great. I've got experience playing on all three systems, and the GC just seemed the most affordable, and best playing. But hey, to each their own.

I just got a Gamecube too @ BB - GC plus Metroid Prime and NBA Street for $150. I like the compact size of the console and the discs.

for some reason, it seems like most people in the dorms have a ps2 and a gamecube. I've seen it at MIT and at Berkeley. Probably just my friends, but I really doubt the GC is that much farther behind xbox, if any at all.

Umm, you don't like the color blue and you like sharp edges.

This means people are stupid ?

Why don't people buy the Pontiac Aztek? Is it because they don't like sharp creases or is it because the whole product looks like sh!t? Appearance has a bigger impact than you may think.

Look at the Playstation 2. It's sleek, and simple. There are no yellow, green, blue, and red buttons and no child safe rounded edges. And it doesn't come in "indigo", the color that the Gamecube was somehow advertised in...
Maybe now electronics manufacturers will pay more attention to design and less to target audiences that don't buy games.

From my post on page 3:
Whether it failed, is failing, or just selling slowly is not the point. The point is that people are stupid and driven immensly by marketing.

Consider the fact that design is a part of marketing before spouting off how games matter and design doesn't. If that were true, the Gamecube with its awesome games would outsell PS2 wouldn't it?

Well... besides the fact that the controller is widely regarded as one of the best designed controllers available... or that the system takes a small footprint and i don't have to give it it's own corner, it is selling well. for 2002 (in europe), XBox sold 1.4 million, GC sold 1.5 million. Not sure in Japan, but here are last weeks stats (http://www.cosmogames.com/NEWSdetail.asp?NID=1553) and I haven't been able to find specific numbers for the USA, but I hear its close. Your reasoning is ... boggling.

How are people stupid for buy the GC? You say its because of marketing but XBox has spent 1/2 BILLION dollars in marketing the XBOX and they can only match the GC (60 million in advertising) in terms of numbers. People must like its design then, eh? PS2 has over 1500 games available. I think that is a pretty good selling point. I was recently debating between the GC and the PS2. Why the GC? Because of the small footprint and games available. I decided to go with the PS2 because of the HUGE number of games available. I will probably still buy a GC later.

I agree that CUBE has some awesome games on it.

But Sony is the one to beat for a long time to come.

Microsoft might exit the race if the Xbox 2 is a failure as well.

I don't know about you, but I much rather buy a dedicated DVD-player than use a game-console for my DVD-needs.

many consoles are in kids rooms or game rooms, so dvd playback is useful. and with average families owning several tvs now, the more players you have the better.

I for one like the design of the gamecube. I think it is an advantage that it is small. I took mine on a trip recently and it easily fit in my luggage along with my clothes. The xbox & ps2 would probably have fit too, but would have taken up more space.

I really wish it was 1/2 it's height. That would be awesome.

I can't believe this thread is still going

Let me fix things:

If you love the GC...It's the best console out there :)

If you love the PS2...It's the best console out there :)

If you love the XBox...It's the best console out there :)

:D

Bad analogy there.
You're comparing a car to a console?
I'm not even going to get into the reasons why it's a poor comparison.

Anyway, PS2 and XBOX doubling as a DVD player is a good thing for those with several TV's and the console not being in the main TV room.
Fortunately I have both :D

The main reason for the GC going proprietary is obviously to prevent piracy.
Now if they would only make the boxes smaller :p

All I have to say is this.

Eternal Darkness & Skies of Arcadia.

I would buy a console for EITHER of these games alone. I played through Eternal Darkness 6 times already, and I played SoA twice on DC(its a 40+ hour game). As soon as I scrape together the cash, it is mine...

Ok, maybe that's not all I have to say.

The GC controller is the only next-gen controller I can stand. I use analog sticks like its my job, and I absolutely HATE the PS2's analog sticks. The rest of the controller ain't bad, but they really need to work on the analog. XBox's just is poorly designed, the first controller is monstrous, and the second controller is a monstrous controller squished onto a little pad. Yuck. GC's = perfect, wavebird is the best thing to come to consoles since..well...ever.

I think I'm the only person who actually prefers the XBox Controller S to the GC's controller. I think the L and R triggers on the GC controller are garbage.

And I owned a GC for nearly a year. Sold it this past December and bought an Xbox for Live online play, and Halo. Halo2 is going to rock the whole freakin' universe IMHO.... ;)

I think there's only one way Nintendo can claim the #1 spot in the console world, (with the next generation, they've already lost with the Cube)

They need to sell their next gen console at about 79 bucks, and sell all the games for like 29. They'll take a major loss on the console, but they'll sure gain market share.

I would buy Xbox even if it only came in kiddie-themed versions like Hello Kitty, Pokemon, and Yu-Gi-Oh if that was the only way I could enjoy the SWEET SWEET CANDY THAT IS XBOX LIVE, HALO, AND WHAT WILL BE HALO2 ON XBOX LIVE! :D

Ninetndo is doing just fine. Nintendo is aiming at a particular market. They own the parent who wants wholesome games market, they own the kid market easily, they got the multiplayer party game market shut down and the one market that no other console can ever touch. The old school nintendo kids.

I will buy every system they ever make, as long as they keep making marios, zeldas, starfoxes etc....

The GC is easily my favorite of the three. The PS2 is quality. The xbox just doesnt do it for me, but xbox live is fairly genius. I just dont care for any of their games.

Theyve apparently ditched the sports and fighting market totally. But when you actually see the new zelda in motion, you will understand why GC can never be called a failure.

Nintendo will never be on top for one reason and one reason alone. Its not viewed as the cool system to have. The cool system to have is the PS2, with the xbox in the shadows. To most people I know that dont play too many video games, PS2 is synonymous with video games. The same people dont even know what a gamecube is. If they do, they likely see it as the kiddie system.

Like previously said by many before, its all about marketing. Its not the physical image of the console thats the reason why its not on top, its the mental image.

So the truth comes out? Xbox live, halo(ugh :(), and halo 2 are the only things going for it from the Xbox guru himself? :p

Edit
Xbox Live is the only thing going for it imho.
