Been messing with the thing for a couple hours now. Just some quick thoughts.
- The console is nice and not as big as I was expecting. Initial setup was a breeze and while the download didn't come close to maxing my connection, it was constant and I had no issues. I had the update downloaded and installed within 15 minutes. Connection to wifi was flawless, sign-in with my gamertag was flawless, no crashes or hiccups or anything so far.
- I've had zero issues with voice commands so far in terms of it hearing me, my problem is not knowing what to say or saying something slightly wrong. Microsoft really needs to loosen up it's voice restrictions and figure out what you're trying to say. I'm sure this will come with time.
- Controller feels good, like a natural extension of the 360 controller. I can definitely see the complaints about the shoulder buttons though, although I'm having no trouble with them. Even though the button is fairly wide, only the outside 2/3rds of it will register a click. The stick feels a LOT better than the 360. They're a bit smaller in diameter, which is immediately apparent but have a lot better grip. It also feels like you have a bit more travel, allowing for more precise movement.
- Downloads from the store feel quick. There's no indication of speed or amount downloaded but it feels fine. I had 2 or 3 things queued to download and couldn't find out how to view the progress without going back to the game view in the store. However, I finally found that if you go to your games & apps (icon is on the home screen), it will show you this info.
- Xbox One Smartglass is pretty damn awesome. I've used it very little so far but the options and ability to control the console looks fairly complete.
- When downloading KI, it allowed me to start playing around 70% complete. I'm not sure what was missing but while I played a single match with Jago, it finished downloading in the background.
- I had Netflix queued after KI downloaded and I got a pop-up that it was done.
- I bought and started downloading NBA2K14. At about 6%, it popped up and said I could start playing. In-game, it has a meter with the amount downloaded and stated that features were not ready yet. The only option available was a quick match, which threw me into a game as the Heat, against the Spurs. No announcers, no option to switch teams, just generic music playing.
- Switching between Netflix and games was easy and flawless. Games would pause automatically but Netflix would not pause when going to the home screen.
- I only tried snap once and it worked fine, will fool with that later.
- I plugged in my TV through the HDMI in and when it got to the point of setting up my TV, it said it recognized it and then tried to turn it off or something. It's getting stuck at this part, hanging for about 3 minutes and then saying it's not working. I can't get past this part, since there's no way to restart the app completely, it just quick resumes where it's at and gets stuck in this loop. I guess I'll have to turn the whole console off and go back to that.
All in all, I'm really liking this thing so far. I haven't ran into any issues besides the TV app.
