I'd like to mention that the exhaust temp was about 5 degrees higher under load. This could mean the One is hotter or it could mean it is dissipating heat better.

Or it can mean that they placed the thermocouple closer to the heat source. It really could "mean" nothing. Meh.

It is awesome being able to say Xbox volume up etc and it actually work. Being able to use the smart glass app as a remote is also cool as hell. I just used it to type a message instead of on screen keyboard on the one. I really feel like the voice and UI combined together feels like the future, I think when people see it for themselves at a friend's house they will be impressed.

My GF would look at me like a whack job if I started saying volume up while playing a game. She already gives me looks when I'm on voice chat.. D:

I already get enough from the wife for cussing at the tanks when I play WOT. I'm in an office when I play PC games, I can't imagine what would happen when I started to yell "XBOX FUUUUUUUU*** YYYOOOOUUUUU!!!!"

Been messing with the thing for a couple hours now. Just some quick thoughts.

- The console is nice and not as big as I was expecting. Initial setup was a breeze and while the download didn't come close to maxing my connection, it was constant and I had no issues. I had the update downloaded and installed within 15 minutes. Connection to wifi was flawless, sign-in with my gamertag was flawless, no crashes or hiccups or anything so far.
- I've had zero issues with voice commands so far in terms of it hearing me, my problem is not knowing what to say or saying something slightly wrong. Microsoft really needs to loosen up it's voice restrictions and figure out what you're trying to say. I'm sure this will come with time.
- Controller feels good, like a natural extension of the 360 controller. I can definitely see the complaints about the shoulder buttons though, although I'm having no trouble with them. Even though the button is fairly wide, only the outside 2/3rds of it will register a click. The stick feels a LOT better than the 360. They're a bit smaller in diameter, which is immediately apparent but have a lot better grip. It also feels like you have a bit more travel, allowing for more precise movement.
- Downloads from the store feel quick. There's no indication of speed or amount downloaded but it feels fine. I had 2 or 3 things queued to download and couldn't find out how to view the progress without going back to the game view in the store. However, I finally found that if you go to your games & apps (icon is on the home screen), it will show you this info.
- Xbox One Smartglass is pretty damn awesome. I've used it very little so far but the options and ability to control the console looks fairly complete.
- When downloading KI, it allowed me to start playing around 70% complete. I'm not sure what was missing but while I played a single match with Jago, it finished downloading in the background.
- I had Netflix queued after KI downloaded and I got a pop-up that it was done.
- I bought and started downloading NBA2K14. At about 6%, it popped up and said I could start playing. In-game, it has a meter with the amount downloaded and stated that features were not ready yet. The only option available was a quick match, which threw me into a game as the Heat, against the Spurs. No announcers, no option to switch teams, just generic music playing.
- Switching between Netflix and games was easy and flawless. Games would pause automatically but Netflix would not pause when going to the home screen.
- I only tried snap once and it worked fine, will fool with that later.
- I plugged in my TV through the HDMI in and when it got to the point of setting up my TV, it said it recognized it and then tried to turn it off or something. It's getting stuck at this part, hanging for about 3 minutes and then saying it's not working. I can't get past this part, since there's no way to restart the app completely, it just quick resumes where it's at and gets stuck in this loop. I guess I'll have to turn the whole console off and go back to that.

All in all, I'm really liking this thing so far. I haven't ran into any issues besides the TV app.

It could also mean that they choose quietness over thermals and the system allows the CPU/HS to run hotter allowing them to go with a better fan profile for noise consideration.

at home playing the "waiting for ups" game :(

My UPS driver leaves my stuff on my porch every time, and I love that arrangement...... I've had anything and everything left sitting for me and waiting for me as I come home from work. I'd rather not sit around waiting to sign for a box! Of course, signatures are required by some shippers (not ones that I use though..) and some neighborhoods/apartments will require sig.

No, that is not what the article said:

http://www.extremetech.com/gaming/1...ghter-and-yet-more-powerful-than-the-xbox-one

rather than being significantly cooler than the PS4, the Xbox One’s case temperature is actually higher. During games, the Xbox One case temperature (directly above the CPU) was 49 degrees Celsius; the PS4 was just 44 degrees Celsius

Edit - I guess that could mean they were measuring the exhaust right above the CPU. Oh well, splitting hairs at this point anyway.

Well, was just told by amazon that my console is still sitting in AZ, and the earliest I will get it is tomorrow, even though I paid for one day delivery and was told it would be here today by a customer service rep. The earliest it will be here is tomorrow, but probably not until Monday. The good news is they completely refunded me my shipping costs and gave me a couple free months of prime.

So the TV app got stuck and would not load whatsoever, it kept saying "TV took too long to load" and would quit. I tried turning the console off and back on, same issue.

I finally figured out that by default, the console is in "instant on" mode. You go into the settings -> power & startup. If you change the power mode to "energy saving", that will shut the console all the way down and will take longer to boot up.

"Instant on" gives you just a black screen with the white X logo, "energy saving" gives you the green screen with full logo and sound.

Shutting the console all the way down finally fixed my TV app, it's working now.

Lucky you, at least your order wasn't swapped out for a standard edition with a longer shipping delay (like me, lol). They said they are sorry and are looking into the situation, good enough for me that it doesn't happen again, just doesn't sound like amazon.

My buddy threw a fit and got three free games out of them.

I posted earlier that I could not redeem any codes because it seemed to be messed up. I had bought some cash cards that I couldn't enter. If I scanned the 14-day Gold trial that came with the console with the Kinect, it would recognize what it was for but error when confirming. Same with entering the cash card codes. If I went onto xbox.com, I got a nice error page and it wouldn't load my account.

I kept assuming Microsoft was having issues since both ways wouldn't work but I finally decided to try signing out and back in on the browser. Now it's working fine via browser and console. Weird.

after my initial setup and entering a buncha codes manually because i can't hookup the kinect, i can say i am NOT a fan of the dash at all so far. i must prefer the ps4 simplistic interface over this bright ass colored tiles of different sizes all over the place not even making sense why things are they are. definitely gotta give it more time though.

I pinned a few games and apps to the home screen and it's better but there is still too much going on. There is a lot of stuff there that doesn't need to be IMO and I see no way to remove. I wish I could make a folder with my games and name it etc. then pin that to the home screen.

Hey does anyone know where to view your current downloads? The PS4 puts them in your notifications but the XB1 doesn't seem to show them in a centralized location.

When you can do pretty much everything without Kinect, it's minor.

Well again, it represents 20% of the cost over its competition. If it was minor, I would have hoped that they'd put the cost into a better GPU. Seriously, this thing is sucking wind on BF4, which is EXTREMELY disappointing and concerning, especially considering that they want these things to have a 10 year lifecycle.

I commented in the BF4 thread: the PS4 is clearly superior with regard to graphical quality and framerate.

My son and I are sitting here with both consoles with blank looks on our faces. We prefer the Xbone's library but the PS4 hardware and controller are the shiz, and not just on paper.
