ign today has a link about MS thinking that, unlike Sony, supply will be tight this Christmas.

I looked on ebay and they are not closing out at a ton right now. Profits of about $100 or so and, considering a suspicious number of bids seem to be by people with no history, it's not a risk I'd take.

My neighbor's brother bought $3500 worth of Xbox ones, thinking he could profit $500 a pop on ebay. I laughed, inexperience...*facepalm*

Died how? Did it just stop responding and everything?

Yeah, he used it last night with no problems and a little bit this morning. Then it started to do some funky things with his system (I don't remember the details), and then it croaked. The system won't recognize it or anything. According to him this has happened to others too, because he found some troubleshooting steps and MS was aware of it when he called. Bummer.

So far the Kinnect and the BR drive are two points of failure :(

Oh I told him I'd sell him my Kinect for $200. He was less than amused

Meh, not at 20% of the cost and crucial to all the features that differentiate it from the PS4 ... He very much does not consider it minor ;)

when you guys turned it on the first time did you have it wired to the net? does it auto update or do you have to manually go update it?

It asks during the initial setup about your network. I use wireless and I guess it detected no Ethernet cable plugged in, instead it asks "Which is your's?" and lists the wireless connections available.

Downloading the initial update now (507MB). It only shows the MB remaining, not the speed, but I'm estimating it's going somewhere between 1Mbps-1.5Mbps. I can typically max my line out around 3Mbps with a good server.

On another note, I can't hear the console and it's sitting 5 feet from me right now.

Question:

I have Dish Network, and the Hopper DVR. This DVR is plugged in via HDMI to my receiver. When I get an Xbox One, how will I run the hopper through the Xbox One? All my components now plug directly into my receiver (Not my TV).

My understanding is:

Dish Hopper --> XB1 HDMI in, HDMI out--> Receiver --> TV.

XB1 should, I think, use IR blasters to control the Hopper? However, I'm waiting to get a XB1, so I can't test this on my own Hopper. I imagine some people will have already set this is up and reported on it in some Dish Network forums somewhere.

Make sure IR is enabled on your Hopper first.

Another observation while I wait for this download.... the console is nowhere near as big as I was led to believe on the internet. It looks right at home in my entertainment center, I really like its aesthetics.

I think they are getting hammered, because I've been DC'd from live like 3 times already and it stops the installation of KI each time...

Same here. It's not as bad as I anticipated, although they totally could have fit the power brick inside. I know I know, an annoyance that affects < 10% of us.

Of course, Sony is much more into the hardware space than Microsoft. Sony has a huge history of electronics.

Doesn't matter. Both are probably made by the same lowest bidder in China.

And for all their media and hardware experience I have never replaced so many optical drive components as I have my PS1 and 2. Plastic moving parts ftl.

Since I'm going digital, I bought some money cards to load onto my account. The redeem code option has been down all morning on xbox.com and the code doesn't work on the console either. Hope they get that back up soon, I only have enough money on my account right now for one game.

I want to say they are about the same, however, I can't seem to find my Xbox 360 one, despite unhooking it right before I plugged in my Xbox One...

I'm looking at them both side-by-side right now and the Xbox One brick is about the same size, only slight wider.

I think MS was pretty obsessed about not replicating the RROD issues with the original 360; that's probably why the XB1 is in such a large chassis as compared to PS4. Will be interesting to see if the smaller chassis of PS4 has any long term implications on heat causing failures. I don't think that will happen, but it seems that MS did go full retard to basically prevent a repeat of the 360 RROD debacle.

What's interesting is that the article I linked earlier actually found that the case temp of the Xbone was about 5 degrees higher under load.

It is awesome being able to say Xbox volume up etc and it actually work. Being able to use the smart glass app as a remote is also cool as hell. I just used it to type a message instead of on screen keyboard on the one. I really feel like the voice and UI combined together feels like the future, I think when people see it for themselves at a friend's house they will be impressed.

I'd prefer the PS4 to be larger and have a larger, quieter fan with larger heat sink. I just don't give a crap about what size the box is or what it looks like.

Although I saw a comparison that showed them being the same loudness and I think the x1 was a little hotter or something (though i dont see how either of these could be true, lol).

Under load, the PS4 was louder and cooler. The One was quieter and hotter. Seeing as to how they have almost the same hardware, this sounds about right. Both consoles are perfectly fine with temps under load, 45-49 degrees, if I remember correctly.

I'd like to mention that the exhaust temp was about 5 degrees higher under load. This could mean the One is hotter or it could mean it is dissipating heat better.
