A lot of people don't realize that the Xbox One is doing a lot more in the background than the PS4 does at any given time. The big one is that it is always recording your game footage. Considering that it runs games as well as it does that look as good as they do despite that I find it pretty impressive.

Seems like a waste of resources.

The ability to just say "Xbox record that" any time something awesome happens in a game and have it recorded is one of the coolest things about the new system to me.
It is very cool... But it has nothing to do with the resolution.

I get that, but that's not what he said. Is it recording all the time or just when you tell it to?

I didn't realize they are always recording stuff. I hit share at one point and then the files were saved on the ps4 hard drive. I've never shared anything though.

Both systems record all the time, they both automatically save 15min I believe.

Its 30 seconds on the xbone when you say Xbox record that. On ps4 hitting the share button does a lot longer. I can't remember exactly how long because I got rid of my ps4 December 22nd

That's the sharing but the Xbox One automatically records up to 5 minutes of gameplay and the PS4 is 15.

It requires specific hardware that Nvidia has built in. It's the same hardware they support game streaming from. Without it, the software will hog resources and slow everything else way down. I don't know if AMD has similar hardware built in for this process on GCN. If they do then I imagine the XB1 and PS4 are using that to offload the video encode.

I don't know why AMD couldn't do it. It's just sending the frame buffer to your h.264 encoding engine that's on the same GPU and providing that data to the host machine. AMD, NVIDIA and Intel all have encoding engines (UVD, NVENC and QuickSync respectively). Heck, streaming software such as OBS has NVENC and QuickSync support! The remote software Splashtop uses NVENC for lower latency.

If I remember correctly, both the X1 and PS4 have hardware encode engines that are linked to the buffers. So, they should pretty much have the exact same capability.

How much better is xbox One than xbox 360? Does anyone have experience?
Is it worth to buy?
Look at the games that are out for it, and are soon to be released... Do they interest you? If so, then buy one. If not, don't bother yet.

It really is that simple.

The above is dead-on, it's 100% dependent on how interested in the current and near-future games you are. Personally, I don't care for them. I want The Division that's probably the next title I have a great amount of interest in. I don't want Forza 5 or Dead Rising 3 or Ryse, so I'm content keeping my 360 and finishing Borderlands 2, while also considering clean-up duty on games like BioShock 2, Fallout 3 (DLC), and the like.

However, once The Division launches, I would look at a One, because I don't want to put up with UPlay on PC. Halo 5 might be the time I really look at a console, because I'm hoping to see them have a skinned console for that launch.

Not me...I'd rather them move on and forget the old consoles more quickly. They were out for 7 damn years for crying out loud. Not to mention the architectural change to x86 is for the better.

If you have one you can play your old games there.

The sooner they stop supporting cross platform old gen games, the further they can go with developing better games for the new gen systems.

For example look at all the crap on the net about watch dogs e3 vs the newest trailer on how it looks like the old generation console graphics.

I expect pc to look like e3 maxed out but not consoles as they likely had to make changes to support all platforms next gen or not.

There are some rumors floating around, baseless and unfounded but they are there, that Titanfall on the 360 is purposely delayed for 2 weeks and no info or footage is shown because it looks awfully close to the XB1 game and they are afraid people will buy it for 360 and won't buy an XB1 for it.

On the surface it sounds like a possibility but I doubt it has any truth. Sure they want people buying AB1 consoles no doubt but I don't think the game will look exactly the same on the 360, let alone play at the same frame rate. It's along the same lines of thinking though, last gen crossover titles holding back new games right now.

Just looking at games built from the ground up for only current gen. Killzone, Ryse, inFamous all look absolutely stunning.

Yea I kept seeing titan fall for 360 releasing on March 25th. I don't think it will look the same as xb1 but it could be close, you never know maybe they just have more lighting, a little better textures and such. I doubt that's it though. Is it releasing in other countries on the 25th as well?

I'm not sure why we are still hung up on this. It's not gonna happen on leading edge consoles. The closest you'll get is something like PS Now.

Sounds more like a crazy conspiracy theory to me. If, by some chance, Titanfall for the 360 looks identical to the XB1 version, then ReSpawn did some very lazy coding on the XB1.

I'm unable to test at the moment but I am curious to know if the Xbox One Twitch live streaming supports streaming stuff that comes into the Xbox via the HDMI in port. I'm curious if I could stream games from other consoles I own using that method.

Titanfall is an awesome game on a crap 2004-era engine with horribad textures. The 360 version should be 90% the visuals of the XB1, albeit heavily upscaled a la COD. The XB1 will still easily be the best console version, it can't be overstated how superior the audio is on the XB1 vs. 360, a point that's often overlooked.

So yes, it's very probable that the 360 version was delayed specifically to give the XB1 version a 'scheduled exclusive' period on console.

For the same reasons, the PC version, albeit with greater resolution and AA, still is tied to a meh engine at best. While I prefer it easily, it's not a bad game on XB1 by comparison, even though after playing it at 2560x1600 I can't look at the other versions and ever want to play them.

You cannot, the app will not start broadcasting if you're in the TV app (which is where you'll see anything coming into the HDMI-in). I know this because I was fooling around with the broadcasting settings last night while watching TV and it wouldn't let me even begin to set it up without being in a proper app.

I don't know what that means. I seem to remember both leading-edge ps3 and xbox360 consoles at launch were backwards compatible. Wii-u is backwards compatible. I have 7 consoles sitting in my cabinet because of lack of backwards compat, lol.

It forces people to get rid of their old console and buy the new one, not support older games.

And yes, I'm absolute sure Titanfall is running smoothly on 360 and looking "too close for comfort" to xbox one's version.

You need a decent setup to see the difference. Many people still see no difference betweeen 1080p and 720p for example, and may even consider a game running at a higher FPS to "look better".

Both PS3 and the 360 did it with software emulation, and it wasn't even for every game. The selection of games on the 360 was paltry, at best. The next iteration of each console did away with said compatibility.

Great that the Wii-U has it... But that's not working out too well for them. Surely they would sell more consoles if they focused on the future instead of the past.

MS and Sony don't do backwards compatibility to "force" new console purchases... They don't do it because it is a feature that would limit the new console's power.

This is very inaccurate. The original PS3 had hardware compatibility; later ones used software and even later ones dropped the feature altogether. The 360 does use software compatibility, but the feature was never dropped (it still works today on any 360 with a hard drive) and it supports about half of the original Xbox library - 461 games are supported. That's not a paltry selection.

If the PS4 had PS3 backwards compatibility I would have bought one at launch, instead of waiting at least a year like I'm doing now.
