Console gaming has actually been trending down and many casual gamers going over to mobile devices. Consoles are being used more than ever as media hub devices and not straight up gaming systems. MS knows that growth isn't in traditional gamers. It's in "family devices" that rich suburbanite husbands can sell to their wives as an integrated device to reduce clutter and provide easier access to stuff to watch and do. Sony set things up with the PS3. MS slowy tried to gain a foothold through incremental Xbox dashboard updates and improvements. This is a product built from the start to be a media hub.

I'm disappointed if it doesn't do recording though. I wonder if it will still allow you to connect to Windows Media Center for streaming back? With Win8 under the hood I would have hoped they would have done a way for you to hook up a USB TV tuner or something and configure Media Center to record local to the device.

looks like all they are doing with fifa is saying that the big improvement to the series, if I'm understanding this, will be xbox exclusive (at least for the first year).

can't watch it cause i'm at work, but what is with the tv stuff? i know i read you all say you can't record, but can you use it as a set top box? like if i have fios, and run a coax cable to it, can i use it as a fios set top box?

Reading the liveblog on Ars (at work, so no video). I love this comment:

"Blah blah blah about cloud-powered games and multi-device games"

Awesome, a new Remedy game. The first interesting thing they've shown to me. 😛

I hope it comes out for PC.

I don't think it's any different than what the 360 does with Comcast, but you aren't so segmented. Right now, you have to load a separate app, and it takes awhile. This thing seems to just swap to TV. My guess is that you setup your TV settings in the console settings.

Essentially. It changed the overlay/guide as well. They havent talked about whether you directly connect your coax
