I just see dumb people thinking that the $299 version has a game with it.

Anyways the price is pretty much what I expected. I have not seen anything about it, curious to see how it works but after how lackluster the wii was I am not expecting much

Anyone have more insight into the type of AMD GPU it will be using. It's DX10.1, I'm hoping it's a 4850 or something. Not great, but much much faster than 360 and PS3. Although, it probably will be like a 4600 or something.

Any ideas on how batman, and assassins creed will look compared to the 360 or the PS3? I have seen rumors that some titles will be rendered at 1080p?

It's basically a super charged VMU which was a cool concept back then. The VMU had a ton of potential and this does as well, they obviously need to make sure to make good use of it. Obviously the ability to play all your normal console games on it is very awesome for many people especially kids or guys without man caves.

I'm just not seeing the appeal myself. We already have devices for portable gaming, and trying to integrate that into a console controller just seems unnecessary and clunky to me. And if they artificially impose having to divert your attention between screens I think it's going to be a game killer. I'd be interested in a U if I could strip this controller out.

so far all of the demo's they have shown put graphics basically at the PS3/360 level, if that.

*sigh*

It's going to come down to games...

And Nintendo doesn't have the best track record in that area, since the SNES. There will be a lot of hype at first, probably great sales, but then....we'll see.

If this follows typical Nintendo console formula, we'll see:

A decline of quality third party games,
A decline of third party exclusives
Third party ports that are generally inferior to the other consoles
Eventually only first party, in-house Nintendo franchises to get excited about

Nintendo lives and dies on its in-house library, and that just hasn't been good enough the last two generations. We need to finally see prolonged, quality, committed third party stuff on a Nintendo console past the first year or two of release.

I'll probably get one...eventually...just because Mario and Zelda and usually always guaranteed masterpieces. But there simply has to be more...

If Nintendo developed new Metroid and F-Zero titles based on the Gamecube versions that would probably tempt me to buy it.

If they decide to make another third person cartoon-esque version like Metroid Other M I'll lose all interest. It just isn't immersive or engrossing to me.

I just see dumb people thinking that the $299 version has a game with it.

That's what's sort of cheesed me is it doesn't included a pack in title. Wii was $280 at launch but it included a game. I hate that consoles don't do this anymore. Almost every system back when I was a kid came with a pack-in. Got Sonic 2 with my Genesis.

Nintendo is a lot like Sony in that they rely heavily on first party titles. They sink a lot of time, money, and talent into these games and the product shows. Nintendo has a long list of franhises on "best games of all time", a list that covers almost every platform they've put out, Virtual Boy being the major exception.

The Wii was a good concept and produced some great first party game. However, it never got the third party support. You didn't see a lot of blockbuster ports for it, most likely due to the major hardware differences and different audience. The Wii instead got a flood of shovelware titles. While Nintendo won this console war in sales, the crown for actual use goes to Sony and Microsoft. There just weren't enough big games to keep people interested once the novelty of the Wiimote wore off.

That's ultimately the problem. It's the games that make a system, not the hardware. You can have the most technologically advanced hardware, or a unique controller but if the games suck, your console will suck. Just ask the Vita.

I'm surprised it took this long for a thread.

I took it as a sign that nobody (on AT) really cares about this console which is probably going to be junk compared to Microsoft's and Sony's offerings next year.

There is no software to interest me. Ports and remakes don't count to me, another 2d mario is just beyond dumb, I am so damn sick of zombies...the popularity in pop culture destroyed it for me just like vampires, and there are way too many casual titles. Nintendo land? Common already. Didn't we learn that casual gamers do not buy games and after you sell a million hardware units you have 700k collecting dust and not buying games?

I am gonna sit this one out. Besides there are too many other titles coming up that I will be occupied with on other consoles and my pc anyway.

I hope people are as stupid as they were back when the Wii launched, allowed me to make tons of money reselling them for double the value.

Pretty much.

I'm sure there will be plenty of great first party titles, but other than that, the console is kind of a joke and everyone knows it.

Probably stand to make more from the black console. Only because the color is more appealing for many and the game comes in the box.

got 5 preordered, Gamestop, BestBuy, Kmart, Toysrus and Target, did not bother with walmart bundle. Got the deluxe version as most people will want to get a free game like the wii.

Im sure itll sell but I doubt it will have staying power for that long on the sales charts. Time will tell.

Personally I can't buy them up and mark them up for resale but good luck to those who try.

You better sell them quick. IIRC, the PS3 wasn't selling for much of a premium after launch, cause there were no great launch titles. It was a piece of cake to waltz in and buy one a few days after launch. It's obviously not generating the same level of hype as the first Wii, so I don't expect a repeat of the huge shortage.

Not to mention everyone and their mother has the same idea at this point.

well if they don't sell in 30 days, return them. only lose some money on shipping, about 45 bucks, so its not a big deal.

I'm so on the fence about the Wiiu. Part of me wants it, so that I'll get back in to console gaming, but I don't want to preorder. Anyone have a guess as to how hard it will be to snag one late November or early December?

Play the waiting game. Don't buy it until there is a must have game. I don't think the current list of titles is appealing at all but you may be different. I almost preordered one for myself, but I looked at the games and said "I'll buy it, but I need better games first so I'll wait and hopefully next year."
