I'm not sure YET, why anyone has to have this. Please explain, without a cop beating.

Some people just fall into the new gadget hype. Similar to new phones. Their phone is fine and they like it but they want the new one anyway. I want a wiiu myself but I am forcing myself not to buy it because there are no really compelling games for me. That and nintendo has a very poor track record for software lately. Too many casuals

lanuch thread? fix the title man :\

this will be a first day purchase for some reason. i know i won't play it much either, just gotta have it

Oops. :p

According to Joystiq, the Wii U 32gb is already sold out in a lot of places, while the cheaper 8gb is still available. Either there's a lot of dumb parents with money to burn or people are gobbling them up to resell. Probably a bit of both. I'm predicting the Wii U will be the hot ticket item this Christmas. Though I don't think it will achieve anywhere near the Wii's legendary shortages. It was over a year before I saw one just sitting on the shelf.

I think because the gaming crowd who really pays attention to the market knows that the next playstation and xbox have not been announced, the wiiu sales will be good but not blockbuster. I am willing to bet many people want to see if sony and microsoft have any announcements at the next e3 or something. Then decide what to do.

I think most people who are that in tune are the multiple console type, so it's not really a waiting game. The Wii U is failing to generate much excitement on its own merits. There's a staggering amount of fence sitters in this thread alone.

Its doubtful the gamepad gimmick will sell well to casuals. It's too complicated. It's too weak to be the best place for multiplatform games. The nintendo fanboys can support it once the truly great first party titles are out....but they're currently nowhere in sight.

The future of this platform is in serious doubt, and I think everyone can just sense that. It doesn't feel like the future, it feels like the past.

Oh no doubt but you do have a good many who don't or can't buy every system back to back even if eventually they end up owning all of them. The announcements for the next xbox and playstation are likely around the corner and many gamers know this. Not wanting to go all in with wiiu. Not just that but I was burned with the wii collecting dust for 2 years. That won't happen again...

This doesn't even take into account the ps3 games that are yet to be released and other multiplatform titles that do not require a new console.

i think the price point is too expensive for casuals as well. that was a huge selling point of the wii @ $250, which included a "game" that showed off the brand new tech of the time.

the $300 model doesn't even come with a game, and there really is no brand new tech this time around.

i will not be surprised if the preorders selling out is very similar to how the PS3 sold out - because everyone wanted to buy one to sell it for more $$, but in the end the market crashed and people did not make much at all off of em.

360's on the other hand... i myself made $3000 off of selling 4 of them.

ps3 i ended up returning the 2 i had because no one would buy them.

Many people were buying ps3 systems cause a stand alone blu-ray player was $200 more expensive too lol

I cant wait for Nov 18th to come by and about 350,000 WiiU console listings show up on Ebay...maybe some will start at 0.99 and sell for under 100 bucks...lol

the New Super Mario on Wii U looks great. new gameplay footage below.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WXk1B6FPeQI

I know this is kind of heretical to say about a Mario title, but....it kinda just looks exactly like the Wii version.

I don't know, I'm sure it will be a very good, maybe great little game, but it doesn't exactly have me frothing at the mouth to snatch up a Wii U.

And FWIW, I loved the Wii NSMB and DS NSMB....but it's hard to get excited a third time.

It's as if nintendo isn't even trying to get my money. The tech in the wiiu is supposedly on par and maybe slightly better than ps3 right? Ps3 is 6 yers old and the tech was already maybe 2 years old when the ps3 shipped. Trying to sell me a new console that has tech on par with maybe 8 years ago is not going to work. Especially when your major title is almost the same game I played on the wii. I am very disappointed. To the point that I am outright angry with nintendo over this. I can't understand their thinking at all. Most of the homes with a wii won't be going out to get a wiiu at $300 so why keep pushing casuals on everyone?

My rant is over

that mario game does look solid, but i agree it just looks like more of the same. but im a sucker for classic nintendo 2d sidescrollers like DKCR and SMB.

i just wish they would make a true mario 64 sequel on a console, or gimmie a new pilot wings.

EDIT:

and i know i said im definitely not getting one at launch ... but the hype bug is starting to bite a little bit. starting to swing a little bit ...

I loved the Gamecube and the Wii.

I don't really understand what the Wii U is supposed to be ?

Other than New Super Mario bros U and ports of games that are already out, nothing interests me on the list of launch titles.

I think there will be an re-sell market for the Wii-U, but nothing like the Wii. Even a year after it's release, I still got $320 for a $250 unit at Christmas time. There is some risk that it will crash as well. I'm not interested enough to buy it, that's for certain. Eventually there will be enough stock and enough games.

Said it before but I'll say it again. I don't think I could buy a Wii U until a new Zelda title comes out for it.

Given its typical power draw of 45W and maximum of 75w, compared to the slim PS360s ~135 each, and all are on 45nm, how much more powerful do you think a new Power architecture processor could be than the previous ones while using so much less power? Some developers are saying it's not even as powerful as the 360, that's worrying, but at least the GPU sounds like it's universally better and we know it has double the shared RAM available to games.

Last thing I want is another Wii situation where it fizzles out far before the other two consoles due to not being able to run all the best third party cross platform games. If it's only a bit better than the current consoles, that may well be the case.

I knew it!

My 4890 takes 190 watts to run, and a 7850 takes only 130 watts. Good thing I didn't upgrade.

I did say most developers are saying the GPU is more powerful than the PS360, and I asked for input as to how powerful a modern Power architecture using ~20w on 45nm would be in comparison to the Cell/Xenon. Unless you can quote me saying there's no way it's more powerful on less power.

If you really wanted to know such things, you'd google it and not ask it here. AnandTech isn't the primary place for video game industry leaks. Check NeoGaf, Beyond3D, or MaxConsole (although they suck now).

I threw the specs up in the other thread about this. It seems more fitting there.
