Weird...lots of people have slow WiFi over on the Sony support forums but they shut down my idea of the Ethernet powerline adapters.

Yea there are so many complaints on there. Ridiculous..someone saying they don't want the system because you can't stream media. Well, hello...that was know a while back.

Then there are people who just recommend changing the WiFi channel as that is the one and only way to fix every WiFi issue. I have neighbors on every single channel. There are about 15-18 WiFi routers if I do a quick scan.

I'm probably going to look into that trend net gaming N adapter. Since it works like my powerline adapters but wouldnt it suffer from getting signal from the router if it's meant to be connected to the ps4 not the router?

This is true. Most people playing video games have no clue what wpa2, port forwarding, interference, signal degradation, and mixed mode all mean.

The Trendnet Gaming N adapters are actually just little wireless bridges. Think of it as a simple adapter .. it takes wireless N 2.4Ghz/5Ghz from the router on one side, and turns that into an Ethernet connection on the other side. Your PS4 (or any other wired device) has no idea that it's wireless at all, it just gets standard Ethernet feed.

They work great IF you have openings in the frequency range that aren't getting hammered to death by the neighbors. I know in some areas (especially apartments anywhere outside of the projects lol) you will be saturated with tons of 2.4Ghz wireless already. Sometimes even 5Ghz is a bit crowded.

Bottom line if you have nobody or few strong 5Ghz signals already in the area, and you go with a 5Ghz wireless bridge, you should get a fantastic connection.

The bonus with this is that you can also upgrade to AC/AD later should you want, and have even greater speed, still wireless, for PS4/XB1/etc.

Yeah it acts as a bridge or access point so it doesn't behave like a client. The ps4 will think it's wired directly to the connection pulling as much of a bandwidth as that gaming adapter can provide from your router. So if you have a 5.0ghz router you can get the 5.0ghz adapter and your ps4 will still just be set up with a lan cable in the settings.

For me the channels are all occupied so I'm not sure that adapter would work. If I wanted to be in the 5.0 range I would need to also upgrade the router to a dual band router.

Luckily for me the powerline adapters work great.

It bypasses the PS4 wireless side entirely. You could even disable the PS4's wireless if that's an option (less power use/signal clutter). As far as the Ethernet side of a bridge that's been set up properly, it's identical to a wired connection to a router (just limited to whatever wireless speed you are getting and have bought the spec for).

My home testing nets me about 75mbit from one end of the house to the other. In the same room, 200+mbit. Wireless N using a decent router and 5Ghz range.

One thing I couldn't figure out last night in Killzone.. is there a way to make audiologs not use the controller speaker? Use headphones connected to the optical out so it was a little hard to hear.

I think he's talking about this, but the specs on that item only list it as supporting 2.4 GHz. There are certainly other wireless bridges that will do 5 GHz, such as this one. But I'd only use these if you absolutely cannot get a wired connection there; wired is much better for gaming.

Was trying to get Knack down to $49 since that was the only one on sale. I ought to just return it for the $40.. Sits unopened and I plan on playing AC before it after finishing Killzone.

I would guess that the real issue is the PS4 Wi Fi drivers and/or shoddy adapters/signal strength. If it's drivers, it will improve with time (one would hope).

I tried a better router and only thing it did better was improve signal but speed did not. I put the ps4 right next to the router on WiFi and I got around 14Mb. Out in the living room about ,9 feet away, I would get like 3-5Mb. I don't think a more expensive router helps. Especially if there are many wireless clients in your area. That and the ps4 WiFi card sucks.

That's just one example they do make a 5.0 ghz adapter too. The ps4 does not support 5.0ghz bands though only 2.4. But this adapter transfers whatever signal to hardwire so the ps4 doesn't even know.

Right, fair enough. I was just thinking of setting this up as a stopgap for when I am not wired in.

The way my place works I need to unplug my my ethernet from my PC and into the console every time I want to go online, then reverse it when I want to go back on my PC internet. The other alternative is to get a new mobo that supports wireless, but I really do not feel like pulling apart my PC right now.

You don't have a wireless router ? Just get a router and plug it in to the router so you don't have to unplug the Ethernet from the pc. Or get a router and a powerline adapter then you can move to whatever room you want with the console.

We do have a wireless router supplied by our provider, but the way the place is wired it all goes into this one box in the closet which has the router in it. It activates certain ports in the house and also gives off the wireless signal. I guess technically I could take the wired connection from one of the ports and flow it through another router (I do have an old wireless N router laying around) so it could split the internet to both the console and the PC?

Yeah that would work. That way you could wire your ps4 to that. Not sure what speed you would get but it will work.

By the way I know before I said I don't care about the blue light and I still don't when I am gaming, but watching a movie in the dark and having to hide the controller because it is beaming this stupid blue light all over the room is ridiculous. Not sure what they were thinking with that.

I just set mine on the side facing away. Maybe there will be a patch to let us turn it off.
