Playing COD3, I found it to be MUCH more accurate and natural than dual analog. it took a bit of getting used to...the first hour or so was hard. But after you adjust to it, it's fantastic. The only flaw, which is particular to the game, is that the bounding box was TINY. The screen would start moving as soon as you deviated from center the slightest bit. But that could easily be changed in future games. It was hard to keep your screen still even when aiming down the sights. Still it was a hell of a lot easier to pop out, and directly snipe someone, but the drifting of the screen made it a bit harder. Actually using the sniper rifles was PERFECT - you didnt have direct control as with the other guns, but instead you could slowly and steadily drift around, like a good sniper would, and the screen didnt drift - you could nail krauts with it so fast it wasnt even funny. I'd take wiimote over dual analog any day. In fact, even though mouse is more accurate, I found wiimote FPS to be more natural and fun, since it feels like you're directly controlling your gun, like you should be, rather than just your body. It was great to go into a room and spray some nazi's all over the place without my screen flying all over the place as I aimed around. I heard red steel was the opposite - you have to go all the way to the edge of the screen. I played a bit of it multi, and it did require you to go way further to the edge than COD, but even still, it controlled very well.

I played it only for about 2 or 3 hours, you do get used to it. When I was done I got to thinking that it would be way cooler if it was like a point and shoot light gun. maybe they could even make a little holder for it like the steering wheel. Then you could use the nunchuk for movement, and the wiimote as a light gun. I dont care for the dual-analog-stick-like approach and its not as innovative as I was hoping for.

But then you couldn't strafe. I think it works great as it is, although they should come out with a gun attachment - I have to contort my hands to have easy access to A, B and the d-pad at the same time.

Im sure they could figure out a way to strafe. some unused buttons or just a completely different attachment altogether. that pic nakedfrog just posted was what i was thinking of.

Ya, they could definitely improve it...but as it is, it already is a vast improvement.

There's definitely a ton of little things that annoy me about the wii, that I wish they thought of, a lot of it being dumbed down to make it simplistic or easy to use.

I'm pretty sure I can get store credit at bestbuy or some such place... still annoying to have to buy a bundle... but this thing is impossible to find elsewhere... I'll make sure to post an update with my success/failure at returning for cash to walmart.

If you've really just got a mental or financial problem that precludes you from owning more than one console, than GC probably wasnt the one to have - but there were way too many good games on it to completely write it off.

(Look out above post made me reminice ...

I agree. Gamecube was the last system I bought from that gen. Coarse, I hadn't had a console since SNES before the XBOX.

What can I say ... I was board, saw a video of the Zelda the WindWaker. It looked interesting and frankly it was cheep. I think I bought the system with Zelda in a $99 combo. I think I bought Metroid for $30, and a used Wavebird for $15. Cheep + Fun = Happy. For under $150, I had some long lasting simple fun.

There's the issue though ... once things start selling out. People start buying them to eBay them ... which causes them to sell out faster in near term.

Okay, so when is the expected date for the shortage to end, hmm? This is getting ridiculous. There are still like 2 hour waits outside of Best Buy every time they get a new shipment.

Its not so much a shortage as high demand that nintendo cant even keep them in stock.

I dont think even nintendo thought the system would sell this well

To ALL NYC Wii fans who still don't have one:

I was getting out of the Rockefeller Center station today on my way to meet a client, I saw a dude with a big Nintendo shopping bag waiting to get coffee, asked him if they still have any more Wiis, he said yes.
Might worth checking out the Nintendo World Store if you're around the area. It was this morning though, they might have run out.

I've been happily playing with my wii since last week. :D

One of my coworkers went in to NYC this weekend to get one. He said they had a stack of them at Toys R Us.

I'm kind of disappointed by the number they've shipped so far. They said they'd have 1 million in the US on launch day, but they've only sold 600k so far, and they're sold out everywhere. It doesn't add up.

Perhaps your numbers are wrong, or the demand is still higher than you imagine it could be.

note, nintendo never said 1mil. i thin that was an estimate. they only said 4mil by years end shipped, never giving out launch unit numbers

(unlike sony promising 400k first day while analysts say less than 200k in reality)

So yah I just hooked up my component cables, and yes, it makes a pretty significant difference in Zelda. It's much crisper and smoother, but now the jaggies are a lot more apparent heh. But it's definitely better than before by a long shot.

Next question ...

Has anyone used the cheapo HDMI cables from monoprice? The $6 or so ones? I'm wondering because I have 3 component items (Xbox360, HD Cable Box, and now the Wii) and my TV only has 2 component inputs. I'm thinking about just getting the HDMI cables for my cable box and then I can use both component inputs for the consoles.

SO has anyone used the cheap HDMI cables from monoprice? I think I'm going to order one tonight or tomorrow for my cable box, but figured I'd ask here.

Funny you asked that. I ordered some today from them because I have the exact same problem you do. I should get the cable by the end of the week and I can let you know how it works.

LOL nice :p

I just ordered one actually ... like $10 shipped USPS Priority to Maryland from California. Not too bad at all :p

i ordered a 25ft component and a 25ft s-video for pretty damn cheap too. i can finally hook up my Wii with pregressive scan, it will finally reach

What cables should I order from monoprice that are compatible with the Wii?

When everyone willing to wait in line for 2+ hours has a Wii?
