i played a friends wii, and his 360 with gears of war today.

i came away with the following impression.

the wii was fun and unique with simple games that were easy to jump in and out.

i found myself taping my feet at the gow cutscenes, and cursing at the analog nub control.

im the adult casual gamer who if i want complex and hard to control ill use my nice pc, if i want a break and to have some quick fun it's go wii go!

wtf? that's BS.

I would of complained to the main manager until they agreed to sell it. As far as I'm concerned, if it's on the floor, it's for sale.

that's freakin retarded. how could they not sell it to you??? like said above, you should have complained ur arse off but o well it's too late now, im sure someone else got it

I would have tried to make a deal with the manager for them to reserve it for you, ah well. I wouldn't shop at that Wal-Mart after that incident.

Finally snagged a Wii at best buy on Sunday. After putting a few hours into it, here are my thoughts on the 2 games I've played.

Wii Sports - Very simplistic for the most part, with bowling and golf being the most advanced games. I'm stuck on Bowling and Tennis the most and Bowling is by far the best game... I could play for hours w/ a friend or two with just one Wiimote. The sensor detects your motion and speed pretty accurately and even spinning your wrist gives it that perfect spin. I find myself actually walking towards the TV to bowl... just grab a 12 pack and have yourself loads of FUN!

Zelda: Twilight Princess - What really needs to be said here. If Link is in a game, I'm buying it. If you liked Ocarina of Time and Majora's mask, this is a MUST HAVE. The graphics aren't mindblowing, but there good enough to get you into it. And the storyline is great. I'm only about 2 hrs into this one but I look forward to going home tonight and cranking it up. The puzzles are a blast... haven't fought any bosses yet. Controls are pretty intuitive and have an advanced learning curve before you get it all down pat. But swinging the sword is a sinch and so is navigating around. After about an hour of gameplay I find that my fingers on my left hand cramp a bit w/ the nunchuck. I just take a break and come back for more though.

So far I have to say the Wii is the coolest gaming system I've played to date. I really... and I mean really dig the virtual reality style play. Although there are still a few small kinks Nintendo needs to work out on the response time w/ the wiimote (could probably be upgraded w/ a future sensor), it's still an incredible system. I haven't even played around with the media center stuff yet. Yes, I'm a Nintendo Fanboy and have been since 1986. I've owned a PS2, Xbox, Gamecube, etc. and while I played Xbox more than the other 2... I don't plan on buying any other system now that I'm satisfied w/ the gameplay on the Wii. Super Monkey Ball here I come!!!

I'm most likely going to pass on this game, as I have not really enjoyed any of the past ones.

If this one does not have online play, then it's 100% that I'll pass on it.

heh if either of you think GoW has difficult controls, I don't see how you can say any other game on PC has simpler controls ...

any typical FPS has more buttons to use than GoW does. You only use 1 out of the 4 face buttons pretty much (X is for curb stomping as well as activating stuff in single player). The control in that game is one of the best controlled games out there.

i haven't played GoW (or any Xbox games for that matter) and thats not what i meant when i made my comment. FPS on PC can't get any simpler though. WASD to move, mouse to point and shoot. Sure, some games use more than that, but very little.

Has anyone downloaded mario 64? I know it runs in 480p, but I also read it has a higher framerate than the original? Is this true? I always thought most n64 games had crap framerates - if they upped them, that will definitely get me to shell out 10 bucks for them. Theres so many games that I would want on VC, but nothing is really killer right now.

I gotta have majora's mask, f-zero X (if even just for the music), yoshi's island, starfox 64, secret of mana, soulblazer and tetris attack.

I too am waiting for an update to the VC library, there's plenty of Nintendo branded games that need to be added let alone the 3rd party ones.

I think it is more a matter of accuracy, Joystick/pad are ok with movement, but for aiming, you just can't beat a mouse. Maybe the Wii will crack that barrier with that remote.

Ive played red steel and it isnt anymore accurate then a analog stick style control. Too bad it wasnt more like a light gun, or perhaps both. Anyway it was still pretty fun multiplayer, you just need TV on the bigger side. Also there wasnt much maps, hopefully theres more that can be unlocked.

I hope Nintendo intends to make a mutiplayer Zelda game like that GC/Gameboy game where you help/compete with each other, but in 3D like TP.

Playing COD3, I found it to be MUCH more accurate and natural than dual analog. it took a bit of getting used to...the first hour or so was hard. But after you adjust to it, it's fantastic. The only flaw, which is particular to the game, is that the bounding box was TINY. The screen would start moving as soon as you deviated from center the slightest bit. But that could easily be changed in future games. It was hard to keep your screen still even when aiming down the sights. Still it was a hell of a lot easier to pop out, and directly snipe someone, but the drifting of the screen made it a bit harder. Actually using the sniper rifles was PERFECT - you didnt have direct control as with the other guns, but instead you could slowly and steadily drift around, like a good sniper would, and the screen didnt drift - you could nail krauts with it so fast it wasnt even funny. I'd take wiimote over dual analog any day. In fact, even though mouse is more accurate, I found wiimote FPS to be more natural and fun, since it feels like you're directly controlling your gun, like you should be, rather than just your body. It was great to go into a room and spray some nazi's all over the place without my screen flying all over the place as I aimed around. I heard red steel was the opposite - you have to go all the way to the edge of the screen. I played a bit of it multi, and it did require you to go way further to the edge than COD, but even still, it controlled very well.

IGN just posted their first impressions of Far Cry and it looks like they've improved the bounding box situation by "locking" it when you hold A. They seemed to like it. Too bad graphically it looks worse than the XBox version. I'm not much of a graphics whore, but c'mon, this game should look better than the previous generation! Of course, if it comes out and it is OMGCRAZYFUN I'll still buy it. ;)

I played it only for about 2 or 3 hours, you do get used to it. When I was done I got to thinking that it would be way cooler if it was like a point and shoot light gun. maybe they could even make a little holder for it like the steering wheel. Then you could use the nunchuk for movement, and the wiimote as a light gun. I dont care for the dual-analog-stick-like approach and its not as innovative as I was hoping for.
