This is one of my big disappointments about the Wii, the slow availability of VC games. There is no guarantee those games will even be available to download, because they're third party games. That's up to the publisher. If you really want to play Chrono Trigger, FF II and FF III on a console, you could buy them for Playstation (assuming by FF II and FF III you really mean IV and VI. III was the only one that was never available on Playstation, you gotta get a DS to play that :)).

the DS wins flat out by a long shot, and it's graphics/sound are inferior in every which way.

Are you going buy numbers or personal preference? Because personally I give it to the PSP. homebrew ftw.

Numbers, I assume, since the DS is spanking the PSP like two-dollar whore. ;) There's plenty of homebrew for the DS too.

So true! I have both a DS and PSP and my PSP is collecting dust because I am having a much better time with the DS as the game a much more fun (Sims 2, FFIII) yeah, its not nearly as powerful as the PSP but the games, IMO, are much more fun and dont even get me started with the load times. PSP load times are horrendous! I will take a cartridge over spinning media anyday as long as the game is good.

Yeah nintendo has always spanked in handhelds, they are like undefeated, no surprise there. But you can't deny that the homebrew for PSP is awesome.

im going by numbers, which is all that really matters in the long run.

and yes, it's funny that the 3 people I know who have PSP's don't even use it to play any actual PSP titles, but rather use it for portable emulation more than anything else.

And the DS hasnt even peaked yet. Wait until there is a full-blown proper Pokemon game (Diamond I assume) and even more DSs will be sold. Me, my son, my son's best friend each have a PSP and a DS and we all three play the DS 100 time more than the PSP. IMO, the PSP has been a failure.

Yeah, I ALMOST bought a PSP just for emulation and watching movies. Oddly, SNES emulation on the DS is still lacking. :( I ended up getting a Creative Zen Vision W to watch movies on instead.

But gamers will absolutely turn their back on a company if they put out a sh*t product. Sega got screwed on the saturn and dreamcast, and nintendo got screwed on the N64...don't think it can't happen to sony, too.

I wouldn't worry about nintendo going anywhere. Whereas Sony and MS are backed by multi-billion dollar companies that will throw money at their consoles no matter how much they hemorrage, nintendo actually makes money quarter after quarter, and is sitting on a huge cash reserve. They aren't going anywhere, anytime soon, even if the Wii was a miserable failure (which is obviously isnt).

3yrs is actually pretty good for a console making profit on day one. They don't need to wait for manufacturing costs to drop to be in the black.

Did gamers turn on the dreamcast? I thought it was more developers... no game support hurts badly :(

And if the wii failed, I dunno... that's a lot of money lost on unsold systems, even with cash reserves. maybe they'd just refocus purely on the portable market.

Unsold systems? They're not going to make them all at once and hope they sell all of them. :D They're making a ton early on to make sure they can satisfy demand, but I have no doubt they'll sell the 7 million they expect to have made by March, or even the 9-11 million that UBS (I think) has estimated they'll have by then. Once the initial rush settles down Nintendo will keep a much smaller supply on-hand.

If the Wii fails... well, define "fail." You could say the Gamecube failed. It got blown away by the PS2, and soundly beaten by the Xbox. But Nintendo is back. They'll keep making systems until it becomes more profitable to not make systems. Nintendo is a software company too, they create and/or publish a lot of games, and they own two of the most valuable video game franchises. If they could make more money selling their games for someone else's system, they'd do what Sega did.

by failed and unsold, i meant if the whole controller scheme got dismal reviews and the launch was an utter flop. which in all honesty, seemed plausible before they released any info. Even after they showed what the controllers would be like... I was still unsure.

That's all different now of course, but just saying had that happened, nintendo could have been in a bigger pickle than the past.

Ya, I'm not sure what's up with the DS homebrew authors. It's as if the PSP guys poached them all or something; we can't even get a fully functional NES emulator, never mind Genesis or SNES, which should be more than doable.

Ya, I'm hoping theyre thinking along the same lines - the main reason they only release a new system every 5 years is because thats as far as they can push it, because they'd rather not bleed money out of their ass for the first 2 years. But if they're making dough on day one, and profits begin to slow, 3 years from now, HD Wii would be just on time.

Gamers and developers both turned on dreamcast. It was midway between the two gens...same with the turbografx. Good games can hold a technologicaly inferior system around for only so long. But is the Wii inferior? Hard to say - I consider it more next gen than the PS3 and 360. Graphically, surely not, but in terms of completely changing the paradigm of gaming - most definitely.

Some people consider the gamecube a failure. It didnt sell as many systems as the other two, but it DID make them some money, and there were a ton of great games. If you've really just got a mental or financial problem that precludes you from owning more than one console, than GC probably wasnt the one to have - but there were way too many good games on it to completely write it off.

As far as the Wii failing...thats hard to see. I think with such positive reaction by so many people it'll be tough for it to fail.

My mom even said she's buy one just for Wii Sports and she's never played a video game in her life until last weekend the same was true with my aunt and uncle they were so impressed by the gameplay that they are gonna buy one as soon as they can find one. That kinda mass market appeal to adults and kids alike is surely gonna make Nintendo stockholders very happy and it'll be good for their bottom line

Yeah, not only was I somewhat disappointed in pricing, the fact that we may never see a substantial selection of titles due to delayed release is really disappointing. However I have a feeling that we'll see a substantial amount of hacking on the Wii that might help to encourage Nintendo to pick up the pace and/or change their strategy all together.

I'm pretty sure they said 2 million at launch, 4 million by the end of the year with a restock rate @ about 250,000 per week after launch which is pretty close to 4 million.

That's worldwide, the North America was only supposed to get 1 million at launch.

I've spent a little time with Zelda. Its the next morning but i can't figure out what i need to do.

Catch a cat
Get the cradle
Possibly something about a shield and the husband is sleeping?
get the bee larva

Controls are going to take a bit to get used to. my main gripe is the camera. I know i can do the c button to kinda do a mouse look but i'm so used to fps mouse looks.

Even on an old 19" tv going through an rf modulator via composite cables, it still looks pretty nice. can't wait to get my new tv and a component cable.

To get the cradle you need to climb up on one of the mounds/pillars from which you can see the monkey through the ravine, blow on the grass to call the bird, point the bird at the monkey and hit the button. The bird will hit the monkey and knock the cradle out of his hands.

Give the cradle to the woman with the baby, and she'll give you a fishing pole. Go fish next to the cat. Catch two fish and the cat will take the second one and run home.

You can also use the bird to knock the beehive down.

I guess there is a cheat on one of the bowling training sections.

"In the Wii Sports Training section, under "Power Throws" Bowling, there is a nifty little glitch that allows you to, on Round 10 (91 pins), take out every single pin without hitting a single one. Apparently, the ball hits the edge of the lane, causes an earthquake, and every pin falls. We decided that instead of aiming for the highest score, we'd go for the lowest. running the ball along the rail gives you a score of 0 pins, not missed.

To do this: In the Power Bowling, there is a metal rail along the two edges. To get this glitch to work, move your player all the way to the right (if you're Right Handed, left if you are Left Handed). Move back 1 step, tilt the player to the right (left for leftys) twice. From there, you must loft the ball on top of the rail. If you did it right, it should roll all the way to the end on the rail (you won't see it), then the whole screen will shake, and all the pins'll fall."

you can also change the color of your ball by holding one of the direction keys before starting a game(not tried it) and you can change the color of the tennis court in a similar way.

Anyone have any other neat tricks?
