as strong as the sales are going for the wii, it still has a lot of work ahead of itself to dominate anything IMO. The launch titles are decent, but not spectacular. They have to keep the games coming. and the 360 has a huge head start and availability.

the PS3 I doubt will go the way of beta... sony has a fairly large loyal fanbase. And so does FF XIII. Bluray (and HD DVD for that matter) may go the way of beta in favor of on demand content though. And if sony decides to cut prices early next year, there may be more adopters. Dunno if Sony can still be in business though...

I do hope nintendo continue the momentum. I don't want to see them go bye bye.

On a side note... I stuck in my 8MB SD card freebie from my camcorder... 50 blocks. Zelda and Wii Sports took 2 blocks total to backup.. woohooo... what is anyone going to do w/ 1GB memory cards (I heard you can't copy VC games over to them).
Is this true?

No, it's not. I've [edit: copied VC games to] the SD card. Although I haven't figured out how to set it up so game saves go onto the SD card and VC games play off the SD card.

You can't put VC games onto an SD card and play them on another Wii, they're tied to your Wii - otherwise there'd be no way for them to prevent piracy.

Does anybody know what the difference is between having a character in the Mii Parade (from somebody else's Wii) versus picking them up out of the Mii Parade and putting them in to the main Mii menu to intermingle with your own Mii's?

I've very confused about that part. TIA.

When you remove them from the parade they will show up in your games. They will make up your team in baseball, for example.

I really hope/wish they'd have downloadable game demos. Obviously without a hard drive you can't fit much, but 1 GB should be enough for most game demos.

Anyone have any idea about when Nintendo is going to start shipping component cables ordered directly from them? I ordered the evening of the 19th and it's supposed to ship this week.

Also, in regards to the SD cards, you're supposed to be able to load mp3's on them and play them off the card as well as use them in certain games like Excite Truck but I haven't tried it yet. I really wish they would let you hook an external drive to the USB port and play mp3's off that.

After playing half dozen games in Madden, I have to say I really like it. Not too many buttons to remember, it's mostly wiimote gestures. I haven't had many of the problem that others have had with kicking. I seem to be able to hit 100% easily. I like that you can manually adjust a lot of the settings for difficulty. Right now I'm about even with Pro, however I have all the difficulty settings in the middle except interceptions. With that in the middle I seem to throw about 10 interceptions a game. When I toned that back down to 1/3 it's much more realistic.

While I see the potential for short term domination, I dont see the current Wii being on top for more than 3 years - by then the other systems will be so far ahead in terms of graphics itll be hard to compete.

But gamers will absolutely turn their back on a company if they put out a sh*t product. Sega got screwed on the saturn and dreamcast, and nintendo got screwed on the N64...don't think it can't happen to sony, too.

I wouldn't worry about nintendo going anywhere. Whereas Sony and MS are backed by multi-billion dollar companies that will throw money at their consoles no matter how much they hemorrage, nintendo actually makes money quarter after quarter, and is sitting on a huge cash reserve. They aren't going anywhere, anytime soon, even if the Wii was a miserable failure (which is obviously isnt).

As long as Nintendo is hauling in piles of cash from the portable market they will be fine.

I agree and would add that Nintendo needs to come out with a nextgen version of the Wii that does support hidef and has comparable graphics to the 360 and PS3 well before their nextgen machines are on the radar. I'm having a great time with the Wii but at some point in the future the graphics will start to bug me and I'll get the itch to play games in 1080.

Anyone know what all happens for each of the wii sports when you reach pro status? I am about 1200 in bowling and I see the new ball, but thats about it (My current best is only 223).

I am a pro in boxing, around 1100, but don't see any difference. In fact boxing got easier once I just started dodging and counter punching. I don't even get knocked down anymore.

Those are the only two sports I am pro at, any other neat things happen for the other sports?

Games make a system. The PS2 was the least advanced system last time, but it was far and away the most popular. The Gamecube suffered because of lack of third party support. Early popularity will determine who gets more third-party games, and that will make that system even more popular. I don't think a turnaround 3 years into the life of the systems is likely unless they're pretty darn close in popularity all the way up to that point. I think the popularity after ~6 months will be indicative of how much the graphics will make a difference, because the PS3 and Xbox 360 graphics are already blowing away the Wii's graphics.

3yrs is actually pretty good for a console making profit on day one. They don't need to wait for manufacturing costs to drop to be in the black.

Did gamers turn on the dreamcast? I thought it was more developers... no game support hurts badly :(

And if the wii failed, I dunno... that's a lot of money lost on unsold systems, even with cash reserves. maybe they'd just refocus purely on the portable market.

Unsold systems? They're not going to make them all at once and hope they sell all of them. :D They're making a ton early on to make sure they can satisfy demand, but I have no doubt they'll sell the 7 million they expect to have made by March, or even the 9-11 million that UBS (I think) has estimated they'll have by then. Once the initial rush settles down Nintendo will keep a much smaller supply on-hand.

If the Wii fails... well, define "fail." You could say the Gamecube failed. It got blown away by the PS2, and soundly beaten by the Xbox. But Nintendo is back. They'll keep making systems until it becomes more profitable to not make systems. Nintendo is a software company too, they create and/or publish a lot of games, and they own two of the most valuable video game franchises. If they could make more money selling their games for someone else's system, they'd do what Sega did.

whoever is using the whole graphics card ... i'd like to point your attention at the nintendo DS and sony psp war going on right now.

the DS wins flat out by a long shot, and it's graphics/sound are inferior in every which way.

Are you going buy numbers or personal preference? Because personally I give it to the PSP. homebrew ftw.
