Okay, so when is the expected date for the shortage to end, hmm? This is getting ridiculous. There are still like 2 hour waits outside of Best Buy every time they get a new shipment.

Its not so much a shortage as high demand that nintendo cant even keep them in stock.

I dont think even nintendo thought the system would sell this well

I'm kind of disappointed by the number they've shipped so far. They said they'd have 1 million in the US on launch day, but they've only sold 600k so far, and they're sold out everywhere. It doesn't add up.

Well they are planning to launch 400,000 in japan... So maybe that's where the 1 million launch came from? 600k in north america ... 400k in japan .... is europe getting the shaft again?

Perhaps your numbers are wrong, or the demand is still higher than you imagine it could be.

1 million units to North America at launch

600k sold so far

It says they sold "more than 600k" in the americas. I suppose they missed their target? Either way, its more consoles than have ever shipped at a launch...although I'm expecting it to be impossible to find until after christmas, because demand will outstrip supply, no matter how many they make.

not sure, I dont do the training levels so I dont keep track of how far they go. Ive had one go out of the park though, it says "Out of the park".

Is it me or does bowling get harder as a pro? The ball seems to have different mechanics and doesnt go as fast.

So I downloaded mario 64, just to see the improvement. I always planned on playing through it again, but itll have to wait until after I'm finished with the wii launch games.

Anyways, it looks absolutely fantastic in 480p. MUCH better than n64. It isn't upscaled, it's actually rendered at the higher resolution. Not sure if the framerate is higher - I think it might be. Its definitely 30fps, rock solid. Not a single frame dropped or slowdown, and I remember that happening from time to time. Could just be a while since I've played it, but the music seemed clearer than I ever remembered it. It controlled well with a wavebird. But the download took FOREVER. It's a 20mb file, and took 10 minutes to download on a 15mbit connection. I know nintendo is having bandwidth problems, but damn it took long...compounded by the fact that you can't do anything while its downloading, and it has the MOST ANNOYING progress bar in the world.

Mario runs across the screen, slowly collecting coins. I *think* the coins are incoming data. There are three bricks overhead. He smashes them as progress is made. When its done, he'll start pumping coins out of the third block, over and over. You remember those blocks in super mario bros where you could knock 10 coins out of them? Imagine mario rhythmically knocking coin after coin out of this block, until you finally press the button. The sound it made was like an alarm clock from hell.

Now for some gripes about the Wii in general. Many of these I hope will be changed through updates:

You can't save gamecube saves to the internal memory, you need a GC memory card. It's flat out ugly to see this sleek white console with a little grey card sticking out it's side.

You can't tweak the pointer. Just above or below screen. Zelda lets you tweak it a bit more finely, but it should be built into the system. Every TV is different, and I'd like the opportunity to tweak it so I can have it point DIRECTLY at what I'm pointing at - but that would confuse lots of people. I'm sure they could do it - hell, they had it pixel perfect with the super scope 15 years ago.

Mii's are cool, but why can I only have one version? Sometimes I'd like a grin, sometimes I wear glasses etc - should be able to make variations on your Miis, and yet keep it as the same character for record keeping. There also isnt enough options - half the body parts look stupid, and you cant change clothes.

Virtual console :
Its lacking in games. There arent enough games now, although its launch...but they are coming out at a very slow rate. 10 per month? The NES, MSX, Sega, TG16, SNES, N64 libraries combined is THOUSANDS of games. At this rate, it'll be years before we see our personal favorites pop up.

It's also lacking graphically. N64 games look better than they ever have. But everything else? Looks like crap. I'm all for faithful reproductions, but do we REALLY need to reproduce the slowdowns, flicker and pixelation? Any decent modern emulator does away with these, and can filter/upscale the 2d graphics to look much better. Hopefully, that'll be part of the "updates" they do...updating the emulation code. It also stretches by default...but not really. It just puts out the full image - your TV is stretching it. I wished it could squeeze it for you, but then you'd lose resolution...I guess? Since NES games are running at 240x180 anyway, they could have easily done it for you.

It's slow as all hell. Maybe it's just growing pains, but 5 minutes into a 20mb download that isnt nearly done is getting irritating - and it took me 10 minutes to finally begin the download anyway.

And on top of that, it's too expensive. I *might* pay 8 bucks for a SNES game, if they upgraded it, and it was a long time favorite, or a hit I missed out on. A lot of people might pay 8 bucks for a game they've never played. But that rate is WAY too high for the nostalgic gamer....at the very least, they should offer a bulk discount, like double the points if you drop $50-100 at a clip, etc, so those who want to collect older games can do so, and the once in a while gamers can have their cake too.

I'm using a GC controller, but I have a question. Playing a NES game with the classic controller - are the B and A buttons mapped to B and A, or to Y and B? If it's mapped to B and A, thats just retarded.

But honestly, all the gripes I have are minor. It's honestly the most fun I've had playing video games in years. You've never played games like these before...the control is EVERYTHING. Wii sports is just brilliant - thats their most important franchise right now, and they need to come out with new ones often. I just don't agree with the critics on this one - sure, its a simple game, but its so new and innovative I've probably played it for 30 hours, and I'm not even close to tired of it. Its completely groundbreaking. It deserves a 10/10, and is officially the best pack in game in all history. And although the execution is terrible, the idea of the virtual console is also awesome. This is the real next gen - an actual change in how we play games, and who we play games with. And it might be graphically lacking in the end, but if I want graphics, I'll buy a 360.

My gripe is that you apparently cant buy this thing. Anywhere. People made a big stink about PS3 supply but this is just as bad, since I have the same chances of buying either.

Nintendo generally makes a distinction between "shipped" and "sold." But given the popularity of the console, I doubt there's much discrepency between the two.

Personally, I'm stoked that they decide to reproduce the virtual console games exactly as they used to be. That's the whole nostalgia of it all, being able to see and experience the game exactly as it was ten or twenty years ago (minus having to blow into the cart, I don't miss that, ok I do). I'm glad that they don't update the graphics or anything like that. The only thing that I would not mind them adding would be the ability to play the multiplayer via the Wii's online connection.

Yeah, that thing is annoying... I had trouble downloading the other night, he just kept banging at that brick for 5 minutes until I shut it off.

Same here. They should be able to put a "virtual memory card" in the internal memory/SD card. I think the PS2 had the same problem - couldn't save PS1 games on PS2 cards, but they did it right with the PS3.

Problem is, you'd have to sit in the same spot every time to do that, right? And if you have 4 remotes, you'd have to calibrate each one for a different spot, then be careful not to mix them up. Moving it relative to its current position on the screen works for me.

Yeah, they really need to bump that up to 10/week MINIMUM. Hopefully they do that once they get more consoles out. I understand why they wouldn't want to release them all at once - going through the entire list would be overwhelming, and it would hurt sales - but 10 a month is bad.

It's slow as all hell. Maybe it's just growing pains, but 5 minutes into a 20mb download that isnt nearly done is getting irritating - and it took me 10 minutes to finally begin the download anyway.

Growing pains. Downloading Super Mario 64 took under a minute for me.

I agree... Wii Sports kicks ass . Bowling alone has provided me with hours and hours of fun already.

They REALLY should have made it an online multiplayer game. Nintendo has dropped the ball with online gaming so far.

I remember when there was supposed to be a GC memory card adapter that allowed you to plug in an SD memory card (of which potential memory capacity would utterly dwarf standard memory cards. However it never turned out the way I expected. I think something was eventually released but it was only compatible for a certain very few games.

However I do agree, it sucks that there is no GC memory storage on internal memory/SD expansion card. I'd hope that there might be some sort of update that might change this, although not a huge deal if it never happens, I doubt I'll run out of space on my current GC memory card any time soon.

Try changing the channel on your wireless router to 1 or 11. As I previously mentioned, the Wii tends to run much better on those channels per Nintendo.

Ordered mine on the 19th and no email today saying it shipped.

I know I've hit some in the 600s. My high score on home run derby is 9 home runs with a total of ~4600 feet I think.

Hit 9 just once for 4811...previous before that was 7 for like 3800. I can hit 7 pretty often but above that is tough.

$7 + shipping, supposed to start shipping on the 11/30.

Pre-Order, ships when stock arrives (2006-12-8)

are they a reputable company?

I stand corrected, it did say 11/30 the other day when I originally posted it. I dunno, never ordered from them before. They sell PS2 mod chips and such so take that for whatever it's worth. They're not listed on resellerratings. Tracert shows they're in Hong Kong. If you don't already have an order in with Nintendo and as long as they don't bend you over for shipping it's probably worth trying.

Just tried that, and it works like a charm. It is at least 10 times faster browsing through the store. Kind of odd that it works better on one channel than another though....

Anyone know how the GC Zelda vs. the Wii Zelda will be??

GC is 480p, but no 16:9. Also the world is mirrored compared to the Wii one. Why? Stupid reason. Link is traditionally a lefty. But since most people are righties, and it would make more sense for link to be a righty cause of the motion control, they figured the easiest way to make him a righty was to just flip the entire world. So technically, the Wii version is the mirrored one. Wii version also has better graphics/effects.

And where the hell is the red hair?! I had to give my wife brown hair.

Lol, seriously. There is a reddish one, but its definitely not redhead red.

Problem is, you'd have to sit in the same spot every time to do that, right? And if you have 4 remotes, you'd have to calibrate each one for a different spot, then be careful not to mix them up. Moving it relative to its current position on the screen works for me.

Well, it'd be optional. It works fine as it is now. Something to stuff in the Wii remote settings you can call up any time. And it shouldnt take a long time to calibrate. Theoretically, like a touchscreen, point at two edges, and then the center.

But it wouldnt have to be mutually exclusive. If you can improve the gaming experience, why not? Let us choose. The only thing slowndown and flicker is good for is nostalgia. I'd prob fire up the "original" just for nostalgia, then fire up the improved one to actually PLAY. You want scanlines while you're at it, too? Better yet, grab a 13inch color TV, and hook it up next to your HDTV, and use the composite out of the component cable to plug into an RF adapter, and then plug it into your TV. Don't forget to set it to channel 3. :p

My gripe is that you apparently cant buy this thing. Anywhere. People made a big stink about PS3 supply but this is just as bad, since I have the same chances of buying either.

You just don't want it bad enough to do what it takes to get one. :p They'll have them in stores easily eventually. Unless they have Japanese DS-lite like sales here in the US over the Wii - they literally cannot keep those things stocked in Japan, lines still form, even 6 months after its been out, and they're making them as fast as humanly possible...nearly 1 million a month.
