I don't even use the strap

Have you taken a closer look at the strap? It seems like it would be fairly easy to break. There were a couple of times my siblings made motions that I thought could have sent the controller flying.

I'm waiting to see some third party super strap or something.. haha.

Also, the broken tvs... none were CRTs, so they are fairly delicate to begin with. It wouldn't take much to break it.

No, I haven't actually looked at the strap... mine still has the green band around it :) I guess I'll have to make sure everyone knows to hold on tight when they are playing. I may also need to pick up some extra Wiimotes. My wife and I haven't bothered using the strap yet because we hand the Wimote back and forth all the time.

It seems to be just like the strap on my daughter's original DS, and that's help up to carrying around the DS for a year now. Yeah, it's not really being swung around, but the DS is also, I'm guessing, a bit heavier than the Wiimote.

hrm. never had the original ds. I'm really tempted to "test" the strap out just to see (into like a pile of pillows to see how much force I need to break the strap). But without a source for extra wiimotes just in case... I'm holding off...

I think this one is going to thrive more than the ps3 one will too :p

/fanboi

That's because the eBay prices have died down, and only a few people in that thread bought one to play, so they have nothing to talk about. ;)

:p Exactly.

I was telling a friend about it today, who doesnt really play games...he had heard a little bit about it. I told him about the controllers etc, and he thought it sounded like fun. Then I told him it was only $250, and he was ready to get one. Told him it actually came packed with the sports game, and he begged me to stop talking about it cause he wanted it so bad. :p

The word of mouth advertising is going to go a very long way. Once people play it, they're totally convinced. This might be crossing over into fanboyism, but I'm thinking this system is going to reach a sort of ipod cult status before long.

This point I cant help but agree. Everyone who has come over and played for even two minutes on Wii Sports is like OMG this is amazing and so much fun. Non-video gamers too. Everyone I talk to in my nursing program wants to play trauma center as do a few of the doctors(!!!!) at the hospital I work at. Thats crazy stuff.

I wouldn't be surprised to see this thing become a cult hit

Zelda is great, it's just classic Zelda with everything you'd expect and more. Some of the puzzles have had me stumped for a few minutes, difficulty could be higher for enemy battles though.

Yeah, I didn't unfreeze myself in time, and I don't know when new shipments are supposed to come in so I can't freeze myself again ;)

I'm f-in excited. I'm at work right now and the package is next to me. I'm counting down the hours to get home. Too bad my gf is taking my out for my bday dinner tonight at 8pm. I don't think I'm sleeping tonight. Then i'm going to call out of work tomorrow.

I'm even thinking about hooking this bad boy up to the TV at my desk and playing here.

LOL, I know how you feel, it's killing me that I have to wait until a couple days before christmas to get mine. Oh well, I'll probably bring it with me over to my parents house when we visit for christmas so we can all play in front of the 56" TV.

Definitely frustrating at first....just gotta learn to be slow, smooth and purposeful with your movements...

I work in TV broadcast news. We have TVs all around, a large wall projector right next to me, and a bunch of these bad boys...

It's very tempting... I'm even thinking about asking the bureau chief to write a story about it. I can test it... :)

Dangit I need to get a Wii *now* so I can play Trauma Center with my sister over Thanksgiving--nobody around here has a CLUE when new shipments are coming in. I talked to a woman in Electronics at Target in Laurel, MD and she told me (and I quote):

"I think our next shipment of Wii will be in February. We aren't expecting any before then."

:Q The amount of mis-information and general lack of awareness is just staggering. Seriously, whatever happened to EDI and supply chain fuggin management? The one bright spot is this one Best Buy store in Wheaton that actually has a message on their phone system telling when their next Wii shipments and PS3 shipments are expected...don't even have to talk to the store employees.

I thought I'd have some luck today at Target and Wal-Mart...but no. I'm checking Toys-R-Us tonight and Best Buy tomorrow morning (supposedly they're getting some).

I honestly think that Nintendo and/or retailers are hording these in warehouses and not putting them in stores until Black Friday--Nintendo is taking advantage of the temporary shortages to garner free press and give the impression of a shortage when we all know there isn't one.

Sure, it could be a conspiracy.

Or it could actually be simple - it's that popular, that more people want it than they currently have. The impression of a shortage does not benefit them in any way - they don't need to trick people into thinking its popular, it actually, genuinely is. Remember, theyre actually profiting on these things. If they were losing money per system like sony, there may be a motive for a shortage.

Although the gamers who want it will eventually buy it, for many of the casual folk, it's one of the hot items this christmas, and wont be as much the talk of the town next year. They gain absolutely nothing by holding them back.

Anyone tried out any of the virtual console games? Have any of them been revamped to make use of the motion abilites of the Wiimote?

I'm tempted, but the prices seem a bit steep for what you are getting. At least with the Live retro games they have had achievements added, scoreboards, and some have internet multiplayer added. Some also have updated graphics and can be played in hi-res... even if the graphics themselves look the same.

So do the Wii VC games offer anything extra that justifies the price?

Or Nintendo and/or retailers could be trying to build up some supply before anouncing general availability again... could be timing it to work with some TV spots and print adds too.

they gain free press. it's a bit of negative press, but if you keep hearing "they've restocked x times and keep selling out" it sounds even hotter than "we've got a million, go get em"

Altho, I do believe it's just terrible supply chain management. From the people that I know graduate in that field... I wouldn't second guess it.

and UNCjigga, go away, stop hitting up the MD stores... I want my extra wiimote :p
