Dangit I need to get a Wii *now* so I can play Trauma Center with my sister over Thanksgiving--nobody around here has a CLUE when new shipments are coming in. I talked to a woman in Electronics at Target in Laurel, MD and she told me (and I quote):
"I think our next shipment of Wii will be in February. We aren't expecting any before then."
:Q The amount of mis-information and general lack of awareness is just staggering. Seriously, whatever happened to EDI and supply chain fuggin management? The one bright spot is this one Best Buy store in Wheaton that actually has a message on their phone system telling when their next Wii shipments and PS3 shipments are expected...don't even have to talk to the store employees.
I thought I'd have some luck today at Target and Wal-Mart...but no. I'm checking Toys-R-Us tonight and Best Buy tomorrow morning (supposedly they're getting some).
I honestly think that Nintendo and/or retailers are hording these in warehouses and not putting them in stores until Black Friday--Nintendo is taking advantage of the temporary shortages to garner free press and give the impression of a shortage when we all know there isn't one.
Sure, it could be a conspiracy.
Or it could actually be simple - it's that popular, that more people want it than they currently have. The impression of a shortage does not benefit them in any way - they don't need to trick people into thinking its popular, it actually, genuinely is. Remember, theyre actually profiting on these things. If they were losing money per system like sony, there may be a motive for a shortage.
Although the gamers who want it will eventually buy it, for many of the casual folk, it's one of the hot items this christmas, and wont be as much the talk of the town next year. They gain absolutely nothing by holding them back.
