I'm tempted, but the prices seem a bit steep for what you are getting. At least with the Live retro games they have had achievements added, scoreboards, and some have internet multiplayer added. Some also have updated graphics and can be played in hi-res... even if the graphics themselves look the same.

So do the Wii VC games offer anything extra that justifies the price?

VC games are no different than emulators on your PC. nothing has been revamped. It's for the nostalgic experience. hence, why I feel it's overpriced

that sounds like what Gamestop is doing

Or Nintendo and/or retailers could be trying to build up some supply before anouncing general availability again... could be timing it to work with some TV spots and print adds too.

i read a few posts at another place that said some gamestop stores are selling them now but were told to hold them until friday. i only agreed with what i ahd in bold text.

There's no need for them to do that. They get enough traffic on Black Friday with other deals.

all BS aside, I went to TRU last night in Rockville on the pike right after I went to Bally's. I was looking for a nunchuk adapter in there and they didn't have any. There was this box on the ground however (UPS box still packaged) that had a nintendo sticker on it and stuff, and said only certain people could open the box.

I asked the guy who works there if any nunchuk were in the box and he kinda looked at the box and was like "no but I think those are some Wii's in there" and that was that. Since I already have a wii I didn't really care. But the box did look like it could have had like 4 or 6 Wii's inside of it.

So maybe you wanna run there and check it out.

I'm quite certain that they are going to be released in "waves"... so that each store gets their shipments around the same time, so as not to sour relationships with any store... additionally, I think that the issue isn't the supply of consoles, I think it's the supply of games and accessories. People are going to put the Wii on the shelf real fast if they can't get games and extra controllers to play with their friends.

My opinion: Although I don't like comparing the two, the release of the Wii is like farting in public. If you let it all out at once, then everyone is gonna give you attention but soon realize that it stinks. If you let it slide out a bit at a time under the radar, then everyone will stay happy and not have a reason to hate you.

Sure, it could be a conspiracy.

Or it could actually be simple - it's that popular, that more people want it than they currently have. The impression of a shortage does not benefit them in any way - they don't need to trick people into thinking its popular, it actually, genuinely is. Remember, theyre actually profiting on these things. If they were losing money per system like sony, there may be a motive for a shortage.

Although the gamers who want it will eventually buy it, for many of the casual folk, it's one of the hot items this christmas, and wont be as much the talk of the town next year. They gain absolutely nothing by holding them back.

they gain free press. it's a bit of negative press, but if you keep hearing "they've restocked x times and keep selling out" it sounds even hotter than "we've got a million, go get em"

Altho, I do believe it's just terrible supply chain management. From the people that I know graduate in that field... I wouldn't second guess it.

and UNCjigga, go away, stop hitting up the MD stores... I want my extra wiimote :p

But their goal is to sell as many systems as possible - if they needed more press, they wouldnt be selling out in the first place. The vast majority of people buying it don't care or not whether or not it sells out - thats just food for the fanboys, and is petty and ridiculous. Right now, people want to hear its in stores so they can get it - the word of mouth advertising from the people playing it is far better than any fake impression of popularity. People just want the damn system.

It came out two days ago...I wouldn't expect them to ship more often than weekly. It could be terrible management, but to my untrained eyes, it just seems like it's just a hot item.

I just might stab someone for a component cable though. :p

Although with all the stories going around of Wiiconnect24 killing people's Wiis, maybe I don't want it to connect.

Several of us did, yes. I had the same issue, it could see my SSID, but when I would try to connect I would get that error 52100 (or maybe 51200? I forget). What I had to do was manually enter the IP, gateway, and DNS servers (I left the MTU value alone) and then it connected just fine. As for WiiConnect24, I've had it on the past couple of days with no issues. It seems to be working properly.

This makes me think that the wireless routers may need to be set to respond to BootP requests. Sometimes routers have it listed as an "Alternate Address Assignment" or "BootP" or "Ignore BootP" checkbox in the area where you configure the DHCP server on your router.

You can get a wired adapter. Like everything else though, probably impossible to find.

Does anyone actually have a component cable they could take a pic of the connector of? I'm curious if I could hack one together if I lined up the outputs properly.

Until Jan 07, yes. They will be releasing a USB ethernet adapter, but not this year. I'll try the static IP when I get home.

I'm afraid that if they increase the supply to where I can just walk into a store and pick one up, I may be forced to do so. ;)
I don't need to spend any more money on a console but the Wii is a lot of fun.

Anyone else having a problem with larger televisions and the sensor bar? It seems like I have to point it right at the sensor bar to make it think that It's at the top of the screen. I've calibrated, made sure the sensor bar settings are correct, just seems like a pain. I have a projector with a 120" diagonal with sensor bar at the bottom.

Do you think a normal ethernet->USB adapter would work, or has Nintendo done something so that only their adapter works?

The amount of light coming off that screen in a dark room might be interfering with it, especially from the long distance I assume you're sitting at...try jacking the sensitivity all the way up, or worse case, put the sensor bar on a box in the middle of your room close to you.

I think that, combined with how much non-gaming chicks tend to be digging it. Let a sony fan go ahead and talk about how the PS3 is more for a hard core gamer ... we won't listen as we'd rather go play Wii Sports with a couple of lady friends.

Good to know, my cat ate through my wire connecting to the bar (I am so pissed) I might rig up something so I can play, The sensor bar has wires that are not shielded, they are a red and orange wire, seperated by twine. I can't get my sesor bar to work now, I'm trying to fix the wires. Do you think that it shorted out the Wii's sensor bar port?

They were not wii's, they were wii remotes... well.. there were about a dozen remotes there (I had to take cherry hill/randolph home.. 495 was hell... and i stopped by the two targets on the way :) both had nothing). I bought two remotes.. but as of about 6pm this evening, they got 10 remotes left. No nunchucks though.

I'm actually not sure if they had any wii's or not, I was too damn excited to find the remotes and forgot to ask :)

I thought that was known well before the Wii came out
