Engadget gave a praising review. Apple's claims of twice as fast with better battery life was true. The battery life is nearly as good as the Razr Maxx!

And (assuming they didn't monster up the battery capacity) it should charge faster too. :)

I just finished reading the review. I got the impression, lovely hardware, outdated software. Best part was the battery life.
SunSpider bench breaks the 1000 ms barrier. Roughly 50% faster than the Galaxy S III.

No doubt the phone flies. Internal hardware wise it's a beast. Software speed and battery life is optimized like only Apple can and is terrific. Overall, it's perfect phone for iPhone fans and moms everywhere. I love that Apple finally upgraded the front VGA camera to HD as my wife uses FaceTime everyday. It's just the actual iOS features and innovations that's lacking. As I was reading the review, it just felt like there wasn't much improvement with iOS. As longtime Android user, I just can't get excited over voice nav and improved Siri.

This kind of sums up my feeling. "In general, iOS 6 has seen some nice nips and tucks where it needed it. iCloud integration is tighter, Safari is better and the overall experience is more polished. But, it isn't a major step forward in any regard. Suffice to say, conservative iPhone users won't have to worry about anyone moving their cheese, but if you didn't like iOS before, you still won't today."

"The iPhone 5 is a significant improvement over the iPhone 4S in nearly every regard, and in those areas that didn't see an upgrade over its predecessor -- camera, storage capacity -- one could make a strong case that the iPhone 4S was already ahead of the curve. Every area, that is, except for the OS. If anything, it's the operating system here that's beginning to feel a bit dated and beginning to show its age."

As Galaxy Nexus user, I feel it's superior to 4S mainly because with ICS and now JB, Android has surpassed iOS as the superior mobile OS. Nothing in that review suggested Apple has revamped or improved iOS enough to regain the OS lead.

It's incredibly frustrating that none of the reviews offered any significant GPU numbers.

I get a sense more "geeky" sites like Engadget might be sitting on numbers for a separate article, but they should really just say so.

Most of course rushed to get their reviews out. Once Anandtech gets its review out you can bet it'll be an insanely in depth review of everything.

IPhone 5 is basically a galaxy s2+ its not even on par with an s3 and the next new androids cells with the snapdragon s4pros will make the iPhone 5 look like a 3gs in gaming and raw performance.

Apple will sell millions of it but I'm not even remotely close to being wowed in the specs.

No NFC
No removable storage
No live interactive widgets
No removable batt
1gb of ram

Really its a faster looking version of iOS 5 with a slightly pulled screen.

Give it a rest, troll.

Please tell us what they have added bro.

On the hardware spec it can't touch anything from Google and on the software they added panorama pictures that was stolen from ICS android.

Other than a stretched screen what does an iPhone 5 bring that android has not already done and done far better in the last 2 years

Galaxy S3 is ugliest phone to ever hit the market.

IMO I like HTC One X over every other phone design this year.

Why do you assume I'm comparing it to the s3? I'm talking about the quad core a15 androids that the iPhone 5 will go up against.

Look up the specs of the lg optomus g

Its 100% faster CPU performance over the galaxy s3 and has 3x the GPU gaming performance over the galaxy s3.

That one android cell will smoke the living crap out of the a6 chip some people in this thread think is the next Jesus resurrection

The pathetic thing is that I'm probably going Android but I'm not a fanboy of either camp like that troll as both ecosystems have pluses and minuses. And Android fanboys like this troll are ten times worse than any Apple ones.

Why don't you find some benchmarks of the s4 and s4 pro running official jellybean with kernels and drivers made to take advantage of the chip set.

Don't you think its odd that a almost 2 year old galaxy s2 is almost beating a quad core a15 lg ?

Go look up some gaming numbers as the s4 pro is neck to neck with the quad gpu in the iPad 3
I just broke 6400 in quadrant with my galaxy s3 and its a dual core reg s4 and not the quad core version.

That's a 1500 point gain going from stock ICS to stock leaked jellybean.so please don't post up some random picked numbers that favor the iOS version over an outdated android thst is running brand new hardware

I'll rather have 1/2 of CPU performance and Google Maps rather than 1/2 of functionality in Apple Maps. Apple Maps are not even up to what Android had with Android 2.1 release more than 2 yrs ago.

Isn't the number for ICS devices like 10% or something? You talking about Jelly Bean? Let me know when they push the update to your phone in 8 months.

It's a sad story for iOS users. They trade in a more useful app for a "prettier" app. Google is the undisputed leader of map data worldwide. Street view, navigation, traffic, public transit, walking, satellite data, integration with their constantly updated business/residential directory. They update GMaps once a month it seems, while iOS will get a revision every year with the new OS update. Gone is Google's unbeatable mapping data set, replaced by 3D views with flyovers.

Apple partnered with TomTom (TeleAtlas) for their mapping data. Poor choice. Everyone knows Navteq (used by Garmin, Nokia) has better data.

So I guess they didn't give Anand one then?

He probably has one but is going to take some time. I specifically remember him ranting recently about how tech blogosphere has created this rush for instant reviews

Much like with the YouTube app, you don't think that Google will release their own Maps app? The biggest hindrance there is that you can't make non-Apple apps the defaults, which is a real pity. Make it annoyingly tedious to make things the default, bury the setting under 13 different swipes and taps. But it would be nice to have the option somewhere, and I don't even want to switch any of my apps (I really don't use my iPhone for much, but there is nothing good in the space between smartphone and dumbphone).

Judging by this article, he does not have an iPhone 5.

A new datapoint comes courtesy of our own Brian Klug who's currently visiting LG in Seoul, South Korea. He ran into Vincent Nguyen of Slashgear fame, who kindly let him run SunSpider 0.9.1 on Vincent's iPhone 5 review sample. The score? 914.7ms.
