How the f*** did Fred Thompson get 3rd place?

Cause its iOwa...
And its a "caucus"

You need more xplainen?

PS.. A wise man would not write off Hillary just yet. She has great national polls.
A huge % of Hillary supporters are older folks and working women with kids.
Few of them could make the "caucus" let alone put up with the insanity climate.
Great for a football game, insane for elections...
But I cant stress enough.... it IS iOwa after all.

I just got home from work. Holy shnikies... Hillary got killed. Huckabee wins by 9 points!?!

Very interesting.

Oh yeah... Rob Paul hit double digits. Not bad considering where he started. Wonder if they'll include him in the NH debate now.

I wouldn't vote for Rudy for dogcatcher, but he didn't run a campaign in Iowa. The fact that he got any support at all is actually funny. I sure as hell wouldn't vote for someone who didn't come to my state.

Skoorb for President! With Mill as Veep! Gobies for Secretary of awesomeness.

Mill for Vice President? I didn't realize Fucktardia had a Vice President.

Now, now. Don't cry because your boyfriend has no chance. You and your fellow kool-aid drinkers still have a few more weeks to spam polls and act like nutjobs outside public events.

I tell you one reason I don't like Ron Paul -- his supporters are lunatics. Outside the Alamo Dome last week they were yelling and accosting folks as they walked to the game. I don't need some guy spitting in my face telling me that the Federal Reserve is a private corporation.

The whole idea that Central Banking is a conspiracy and evil is just laughable. Of course, I will wait for your YouTube or Google Video showing me how the Federal Reserve is secretly stealing my brain cells. Believe me, it is always convincing to watch a bunch of amateur conspiracy nuts salivate over something they don't even understand.

Is 0% bad?

I hope he doesn't drop out before my primary. I would like an opportunity to vote for someone I like, for a change.

I can answer this for ya, he was endorsed and supported by Steve King. In western Iowa they arent as enlightened as us in the east, and Steve King is generally regarded well everywhere in the state. Out there, they follow him like RP's constituents support him in Texas.

I didn't really take the time to factor SK's influence it, but it admittedly is huge in this state with Republicans. That's really the only reason (I feel) he got what he did.

I havent taken a look at the results for the state yet, but thats my inclination. I've been too busy working for Ron here to do a whole lot of analyzing prior, but thats the most reasonable explanation IMO. It's no magic on Fred's part he did that well.

WTF is with you and iOwa?

BTW, republicans don't hold a true caucus, as was pointed out earlier in this thread. We don't stand around in corners and have the opportunity to be peer pressured. We have a blind vote, just like normal elections

I think people dismiss Huckabee too quickly when matched up against Obama. The gloves have not come off yet against Obama. While I resent both of them merely because they are politicians, I especially resent the fact that Obama was so overtly groomed by the Democratic party as their next candidate. Nobody knew who the hell he was until he was introduced at the last Democratic convention as the next "rising star of the democratic party". He's doesnt seem to be his own man. He's there merely because he's a black guy with speaking skills, and has kept the race card in his pocket. He'd better keep it there, because if he introduces race into his campaign, white America will turn on him in a heartbeat. Huckabee can at least claim executive experience, though him being a baptist minister is a big black mark after the likes of Bush.

I am a very conservative anti-abortion, Zionist republican and I would vote for any of the democrats before I voted for Huck or Rudy. I think you're going to have a tough time with that argument.

I wouldn't base the entire nation on Iowa. But if Paul tanks, and Fucklebee wins the nomination, I'd vote for Obama but not Clinton.

Ugh.

LOL.. ya... that scares me too!

I'm hoping for an Obama vs McCain battle myself... the real problem would be picking a VP to pair with each of them! The rest of the field just plain sucks...

maybe RP as VP? hmmm...

Find the nearest overpass and take a leap?

If it were Clinton vs Rudy, I'd join ya. :D

Nah, think I'd just move to Cali and try to get me some medical herb. :p

Huckabee is fairly well recieved in the South, which is important since history shows that not one president has been elected without carrying the South. Also important is that he worked with a hostile congress for much of the time while he was in office. Much like GW Bush in that respect, he managed to NOT cave into their demands, despite at times, common sense and imagination telling him to cave.

Huckabee carries Arkansas without an issue. Clinton nor OBAMA aren't well recieved there. Arkansas voted for Bush...twice. He is also liked in TN, MS and LA for taking in Katrina refugees without nagging about Federal payment for it. It seemed (to all appearances at least) like he genuinely cared at the time, as opposed to other governors doing it for money or political points.

I those two might work together for political reasons.

Huckabee helps Rudy get the Christian right and Rudy gets the middle on his own.
Huck works for McCain as well.

I think Huckabee looks like the best VP choice the Republicans have, at least from those running for President.

Who might Obama pick? They'd certainly never pair him up with Billary... would they!?

biden or richardson, imo... he needs someone with an impressive foreign policy record.

I think Robert Novac called McCain/Huckabee as the republican's only hope a couple months back.

OP updated with results. I'll update the republicans as soon as they are complete. Remember it's the delegates that count here. Thompson & McCain are tied for third with three each and Ron Paul has two. If Paul picks up one more delegate of the remaining 8000 or so votes it could be a three way tie for third.

Great idea. Let's keep all the Caucus discussion here.

Today's news... Huckabee makes perhaps the biggest fumble of the campaign season yet

I don't see a mistake here actually. Huckabee has no money to run these ads anyway. He is trying to run as the nice, Christian minister/governor. He calls this news conference and says he won't run his negative ad because he wants to run a positive campaign. Then he proceeds to show the negative ads and have the media run the ads for him free of charge and without him taking responsibility for them. It's brilliant in a swift boat kind of way.

Sure, brilliant if it had succeeded however it was a total failure. Nobody bought it. Listen to hardball, Tucker, The Washington Post , Wolf Blitzer or The Mclaughlin Group this week and they will all be laughing over this. This one's going to cost Huckabee because he looks foolish and this runs precisely against the image he is attempting to present to the "humble Christian Iowa voter".

brilliant political insight pabster and perry, unfortunately completely wrong.

i would not be surprised if it comes down to Obama and Huckabee in the end. i would never vote for a minister republican yet the last debate i saw Huckabee was by far the most impressive.
