But they’ll twist it around, keep your hands off of our guns!!!! Well someone getting an abortion doesn’t effect random strangers. Can’t be said the same for guns.
Remember, cognizant dissonance is a feature of conservative thought.

I would just highlight that the language and tone of the dissent is as far as I know unprecedented - and unhinged

Alito seems to have gone off the deep end:
1) Accused the government of judge shopping (ignoring the rampantly clearly judge-shopping plaintiffs - who lack standing, but the shopped judges ignored this);
2) Declared without basis that the Biden administration would go into contempt of court to ignore the ruling, so therefore, there was no possible harm in letting the drug be banned by the court and thus a stay was not needed
3) And further assumes in any case that there is no harm to anyone if the drug is actually banned (ignoring any harm to women, as he has previously done)
And further ranted - against Barrett! - about abuse of the shadow docket (a rant which was 100% entirely unrelated to the case at hand...)

Woman testifies in a Senate hearing on abortion access. Her Senators Cornyn and Cruz didn't bother to show up. Republican polices almost caused the death of this woman. She may be unable to have children in the future because one of her fallopian tubes is now blocked.

Another 'you can't make this shit up' moment.

Judge Set to Hear Abortion Pill Case Was Sworn in at Billionaire Harlan Crow’s Library

We regret to inform you that the nonsense abortion pill lawsuit is not only still active, but will be heard next on May 17 by a very unfortunate group of judges—including James Ho, who has connections to both Justice Clarence Thomas and his Republican megadonor benefactor, Harlan Crow.

Ho is the Federalist Society/MAGA darling of Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals who’s written very aggressive opinions, including one from 2019 in which he said that “abortion is the immoral, tragic, and violent taking of innocent human life.” Former President Donald Trump nominated the Texas judge to the appeals court in 2017, and Ho was sworn in in January 2018 by Justice Thomas himself—in Crow’s private library.

ProPublica reporter Justin Elliott resurfaced the photo of the ceremony the day the outlet uncovered Crow’s financing of luxury travel for Thomas, including many private jet trips. He tweeted: “A detail from our story today: Ted Cruz tweeted this photo of Clarence Thomas swearing in 5th Circuit Judge James Ho. Turns out this is in billionaire Harlan Crow’s private library, and flight records show Crow’s jet dispatched to DC and back to Dallas before + after this event.”

It appears that Thomas—and maybe Cruz—took Crow’s jet to this little swearing-in.

He's such an intellectual lightweight. One of the biggest arguments against modern conservatism is the fact that their supposed best and brightest can't even communicate a coherent idea.

More dispicableness from Republicans...

I hope every fucking GQP member has their mother, sister, daughter, grandmother, and whatever raped and have children through incest. Fuck them. Fuck them. Fuck them.

Why should I treat them like people when they will not treat others as people?

Don't know if this belongs here or the "should this person be allowed to own a gun" thread.

Seems like someone taking their lead from the Supreme Court, though.

A 26-year-old woman from Texas was shot and killed by her boyfriend after getting an abortion in another state, Dallas police said.

He was jailed on a murder charge as of Friday.
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/may/09/us-on-track-set-record-mass-killings-2023
Texas banned abortions after roughly six weeks of pregnancy in September 2021. But nearly all abortions have been halted in Texas since Roe v Wade was overturned last summer, except in cases of medical emergency.

Gabriella Gonzalez was with her boyfriend, Harold Thompson, 22, in a Dallas parking lot Wednesday when he tried to put her in a chokehold, according to an arrest warrant affidavit. She had returned from Colorado the night before.

“It is believed that the suspect was the father of the child,” the affidavit said. “The suspect did not want (Gonzalez) to get an abortion.”

Succinctly describes the "pro-lifers" stance. Respect life or we'll kill you.

oh, this little tidbit from the article as well:

At the time of the shooting, Thompson had been charged with assault of a family member, who accused him of choking her in March.

So dude with violence in the recent past gets to walk around armed. Remind me again why I should visit Texas? Or really any "red" state at this point.

Speaking of pro-life murderers.
Some people just wanna a reason to kill people. Republicans in congress gave them that reason. There are people who wanna reason to kill children. Again, Republicans in congress gave them that reason. There are people who wanna kill people and children and shoppers at the mall followed up by killing themselves. You guesses it, Republicans in congress gave them that reason too.

I can maybe see deranged people, gun fanatics owning their big guns and insisting on using their big guns to kill because after all why own a big gun if you're not going to kill people? Right?
But it is obvious that all of these mass shooters know and intend to die in the process of killing others, so what does that say? In the old days people intent on committing suicide simply shot themselves alone in their room or hung themselves or took a bottle of pills or jumped off a bridge yet todays suicidal individual insists on taking innocent people with them via the gun. Again, what's that all about?

Next we will have groups of suicidal individuals coming together forming groups and then commit their mass suicide by taking out hundreds of people with them. That really hasn't happened yet but have no doubts, someone will think of the idea and there you go. Not only mass shootings but mass shootings composed of many, all having their big guns enough to take out an entire stadium of innocent unsuspecting individuals. Or, an entire school of students, all 500 of them.

Yes America, we haven't see anything yet. The violence is just getting started. Even the deranged suicidal individual can be quite creative, especially when they come together in their efforts. Praise republicans and praise the NRA. And if you're looking for a new line of work to get into, the line of mortician just might become quite profitable.

Now, back to you regularly scheduled topic.

I guess I should not be surprised. Judges who know nothing about medicine, criticizing the FDA's decisions on medicine. Think about that for a moment. Someone who knows absolutely nothing about medicine, criticizing an agency whose job it is to regulate medicine.

Don't get me wrong, if there is real proof that an approved medicine had an overlooked or unknown harmful side effect that can be proved, then I don't have a problem with filing a lawsuit to stop that medicine from being sold.

That's not the case here. Everyone knows it. This medicine has been approved for two decades. There are no major harmful side effects. Any objection is purely on ideological, most likely religious, grounds.

Someone in that circuit should bring an identical case about viagra. Much more dangerous than mifepristone. Would be amusing to watch the calvinball play out where that medication would receive a completely opposite result in the 5th.
