How is Raising Canes? It's coming to Jersey soon, but kinda south and central Jersey, but with some opening further near NYC at some point. Should I keep it on my subconscious radar for whenever that happens?

Yeah, the owner isn't bullshitting, when I asked how spicy it really was and told them I love super hot food, the chick working recommended I still start with the medium to see. I still went with hot, but if that gave me cramps I'm going to assume the medium would be even pushing it for normal people. "hot" will be unbearable for all but chili heads. One of my Mexican friends took 1 small bite of a pickle from my fries and she was upset at me and said "who wants food that's this spicy? this is stupid." lol And she normally does fairly well with spice. She'll never eat it again lol.

Actually-hot food in any American restaurant is exceedingly rare.... even the "wild" level stuff at BWW for example is only "slightly-hot" not anything crazy.

I'd like to try this place but sadly CA is a bit of a drive from New Haven for a sammich!

:D

Really the only places I've ever had SERIOUSLY hot food were all either Indian or Thai restaurants.

Mom & Pop and some non major chains seem to have some balls. We have a couple other hot chicken places that have 2+ million Scoville offerings. I know a typical person doesn't enjoy pain, but even still a some of the chain could offer something a little more kicked up than what they label hot. There's a huge range between a 2.5 million Scoville challenge and something that's in the 50,000 Scoville range. Which would be pushing it for most, but still be manageable for some and would provide at least a noticeable heat for people like me. But then again, to some people Jalapenos are "OMG too spicy!" and I can eat a bowl of them like candy.

If you haven't tried the Blazin' Reaper wings from BWW, I can attest they're pretty spicy. My throat was burning somewhat and I felt a real strong tingle on my lips for a decent amount of time. I stupidly didn't think and rubbed my eye and it hurt and I was unable to open it for 20 minutes. My nose was slightly running and I felt some discomfort in my sinuses. I didn't need to drink anything even after 10 minutes, which I think is the cool down period. But I doubt typical people could complete the 10 wings in 5 minute challenge. This would be pretty low level compared to a real food challenge, but compared to "spicy" from big chains these were definitely way hotter than anything else I've tried. And I try everything I see. ANd aside from the heat I thought they tasted really good, lots of non spicy flavor. If you could polish these off, then yeah you're a chili head at least an entry level one. As the legit ones like Johnny Scoville on YT do 16 million extract challenges like it was nothing (I would die, literally)

It's fine for a chicken strip chain, seems to be the sauce that draws people the most. It's a mayo-based "secret sauce" so I haven't tried it, thus my thoughts are based on the chicken itself. I might have gone more than twice if they branched out to other sauce flavors, but they just have the one.

Still no ID required to purchase balsamic vinegar but apparently ID will be required to purchase canned whipped cream in New York.

When a problem comes along
You must Whip-it
Before the cream sits out too long
You must Whip-it
When something's going wrong
You must Whip-it

When a good time turns around
You must Whip-it
You will never live it down
Unless you Whip-it
No one gets away
Until they Whip-it

I recall one summer in Jr HS a few friends and I got part-time jobs in a local supermarket stocking shelves.

For some strange reason they had a SERIOUS problem with defective whipped cream cans that summer! (back then the can lids were not tamper-resistant at all)

:p

In other words requiring ID for those cans isn't the worst idea!

But why the would you ID for Balsamic vinegar? It contains AT MOST trace-amounts of alcohol... nearly all of is consumed when it ferments into vinegar.

I had a friend that worked for a medical supply company. He got the big whipits...

Unfortunately, he got greedy and attracted federal attention. That didn't last long :^D

You're not missing much, it's decent enough but I don't understand why people go so ape shit over it. They also have honey mustard but apparently it's top secret so you have to ask for it. Can't comment on if it's any good as I hate mustard like you hate Mayo lol. They also have packets of a Lousianna type hot sauce.

The chicken's good at times, but even when it's good, it's not mind blowing. Bread's about the same, can be good but never memorable at all to me. Would be nice if they had a 2nd spicy kind of strip. The fries are good, but I don't like the 'Slaw at all. And I'm a fan of Coleslaw. I do like how in the combo you can swap out the slaw for extra fries or another piece of bread.

I eat there maybe twice a year and after I'm done I always feel like I'd been better off going somewhere else lol.

A Randy's Donuts opened up in my city a few weeks ago, had to go check it out. The OG location in LA's very famous and in all sorts of movies. They have a bunch of donuts you don't see at other places. But instead of trying something new that looked awesome, I got the ginormous Texas glazed. While it's pretty good, it's just a stupidly big glazed donut. the Maple Bacon looked better, but I've never seen a donut this large so I couldn't resist picking it for the size alone. For reference, the chocolate oreo donut's maybe slightly larger than a normal donut I get elsewhere. For laughs, I should have asked the ladies working how many calories it has lol. While I don't have extremely HUGE hands like our glorious ex-president, it's bigger than my hand with all my fingers stretched out.

I find it useful to get the 'same thing but different' when trying a new place. That gives a firm data point for comparison. If that passes muster, I'll try the different stuff on return visits.

Burger King discontinued the Ch"King sandwiches, way to go...

They replaced them with 3 other chicken sandwiches, I got the BBQ bacon with cheese. Initial impressions:

The Ch'King's came in a nice foil wrapper, this is a basic ass paper one - strike 1
the patties noticably smaller/thinner, I think this is just what it is now, I watched 2 reviews the other day and they commented the same thing - strike 2
maybe it was just my luck, but it's nowhere near as crispy as the old one. I'll have to try it again to see if I just got unlucky.

It's pretty decent, the cheese wasn't really melted, the patty was juicy and the bacon was tasty, for fast food bacon. The 'Q sauce is whatever. Not bad but nothing great. And maybe I'm tripping, but they changed the bun. It doesn't seem as fluffy or good as the old one. All in all, it's pretty good but not worth $6.89 or whatever it was. They have one coated in a spicy pepper glaze and a swiss one (or something like that) The old spicy one was awesome, and one of only menu items that I saw mostly positive reviews of. How often do you hear people go "OHHH I can't wait to go to BK to get a [insert item] The Ch'King was a bright light for a place nobody I know eats at. The rest of their menu's pretty trash, IMHO it was a boneheaded move of them to replace them with downgraded offerings. This just seems like a budgeted new version, which would be fine if they kept the old, but they didn't, and this cost more and is definitely not as big. I'll probably try the spicy one, but from the reviews I saw online, it's fairly disappointing compared to the old one.

Also, eating one of these 40 minutes after you just ate half of a glazed donut that's the size of Shaq's head probably isn't the greatest idea lol.
Maybe they'll see the error of their ways and in 6 months bring the others back.

Long as they don't fvck with the "classic" chicken sandwich it's fine. :)

(those and double-whoppers are the only things I still eat there)

I'm fast-food free.

I don't need no burger joint. Safeway's faux wagyu actually tastes good.

Or I go to my old reliable 27% natural fatty ground beef.

Thus, my health>your health. :p

The last time I actually ATE at a BK was at least 6-8 months ago.... although I got a "craving" for McDonald's breakfast yesterday! (which I resisted)

Even when I did still eat fast-food regularly enough to matter (its been many years) I mostly treated it like a bag of potato-chips not a nutritious meal.

And while its not some kind of weird "contest", per my doctor (who I like, trust and see regularly!) I'm doing fairly well health-wise for an old guy with MANY years of hard partying "on the odo"!!!

Your self-described dietary habits, personal health and especially relationship with medical (and dental!) professionals makes me question if you really know what "healthy" means at all!

;)

My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined.
I did warn y'all :p
And yes, I don't really have any reason to eat there now. I'll just drive to Popeye's for a chicken sandwich and put some hot sauce on it.

Only Popeyes near me sucks. The spicy sauce on the Ch'King was what made the sandwich next level for me. I'll have to see if the internet knows how to make/get something comparable.

I think it was fairly adjacent to a Nashville hot sauce, so I'd say to start there personally. That's what I'm planning to do.
Sorry to hear about your Popeye's, head over to one in a worse neighborhood if you have one.

Fortunately/unfortunately I have multiple Popeyes within easy range (including one that's open till like 3am!) and all of them are fine quality/taste-wise!

I HATE driving within scent-range of that place with the munchies!

Frito Lay has a limited edition Fritos Chili Cheese flavored Lays kettle chip. IMHO they taste like Chili Cheese Fritos, but they're better. Limited edition from Frito Lay usually means it's won't be around long. These need to be a permanent flavor, they're fuckin awesome.

Bought some Mrs. Renfro's Ghost Pepper Nacho Cheese dip, I dunno about other places but I see this brand all over in So Cal. I was shocked at how spicy it is, had my nose running a and there's a pretty long afterburn. It has a really good cheese flavor and would be fantastic on some steak or chicken nachos. This would definitely be too much for most people, I let 3 people try it and 2 were coughing and cursing at me. Kind of a slow build, but once the heat starts to kick in it keeps getting hotter and hotter. Would probably be killer in some home made Mac & Cheese too.

I get their habanero salsa, and it's the best I've had. Not necessarily the hottest, but a really good flavor, and no sugar. It's not real common out this way, but Wegmans carries their products. I'll see if they have the cheese dip, but I don't remember seeing it.
