Ruffles Baked Flamin' Hot Chips:

Pretty good, would buy again! Good flavor, good heat, and baked (too old to do fried anymore lol).

Aren't you still under 50?

Yeah but I have GI problems. I can do fried food at home & at certain places out (like Popeye's chicken sandwich), but mostly it just feels like swallowing knives (including most chips that aren't baked). As far as stomachs go, I want my money back.

For those who like spicy, Trader Joes has a smoked ghost chili in their spice section that I put on everything, works great on Popeye’s spicy chicken to give it a little more heat

So I went in Whataburger for its new spicy chicken sandwich. Ordered the combo for almost $8 including sale tax and it was ok. Not great but not bad either. I would go back to my regular of the chicken melt combo instead.

Next stop. Spicy chicken from Popeye's.

Well, I can certainly see why some people would find the McRib underwhelming if they end up with one like the one I got last night, despite ordering it with extra sauce, it was barely sauced at all. If my sample size were limited to that one sandwich, I'd probably not order one again.

If I remember right, the spicy from the Popeye's sandwich comes from the mayo. I found their spicy chicken sandwich a little disappointing because of that.

I stand with zinfamous in regarding it as an abomination.
Yeah, I think requiring mayo to get spiciness is...bad. And I say that as someone who doesn't mind mayo (I don't keep any in my fridge but I don't avoid it when ordering out).

That said, the actual chicken itself was very good, perhaps my favorite of the few different places I've tried, including CFA.

Mayo and fried chicken sandwiches is a perfect pairing. Everyone does it from big chains like KFC to David Chang's spicy chicken sandwich at FUKU. Look at the best of Fried Chicken sandwiches in a lot of cities that are from non-chain restaurants and the classic pairing is a mayo-based slaw or mayo of some kind. Shake shack puts a nice herb mayo on their standard chickenshack, and a mayo-based slaw on their hot chicken sandwiches.

But Popeye's has the best crust between the Shack and CFA. Plus at 4 bucks for a good sized sandwich that's nice and moist, it can't be beat.

I see. Have you tried the spicy chicken sandwich from Wendy's yet? I think I like it the most in all of the fast food places (I haven't tried the one from Popeye's yet). I like the one from Wendy than from WaB I had for lunch earlier today.

#1: No
Point the Second ) Even if you're going to sully a perfectly good fried chicken sandwich with mayo, if the only thing making your chicken sandwich spicy is the mayo that doesn't even fucking belong there in the first place, it's not a spicy chicken sandwich, it's a chicken sandwich with spicy mayo.
Fuck mayo, fuck Popeye's, you're cool, I'm out.

Just kidding about the "fuck Popeye's part", the spicy fried chicken is still good. Fries, too.

The spice should be on the chicken for sure, but the Popeye's sandwich is real good for a big chain so it still tastes good.

But regardless, mayo and fried chicken is still a great pairing. Not like it's the way it has to be on all chicken sandwiches, but it's not like it's a small minority of infidels that like it either. It's a classic pairing for those with a respectable palate. I mean google 'best fried chicken sandwiches in America', or NYC, or any other major city and it's all over the place at the best local joints, whether it's straight mayo, chipotle mayo, their special mayo blend or in a mayo based slaw.

People that renounce mayo and fried chicken sandwiches are missing a foundational taste bud of classic American cuisine.

No. I will do without the gelatinated animal fats and raw egg yolk, thank you. I can taste the sulfur content from the raw yolk. Pickles, lettuce, tomato...I add other stuff to keep it from being too dry.

I rarely eat fast food. Every so often, though...a Culver's Double Bacon Deluxe Butterburger does me right. It's fast food but made to order (no heat lamps etc.) so it's always freshly-cooked and hot when you get it. They use never-frozen beef and (relatively) fresh veggies too, no pre-shredded bag lettuce.

Their onion rings aren't bad either, but usually the burger is enough to satiate me (and make me unable to eat until the following day, lol).

My favorite fast food chicken sandwich is the Unbelievable Burger from Mom's Touch. Mom's Touch is chicken burger chain based in South Korea. I think they might have a location in the US. Unbelievable Burger is fried chicken sandwich topped with fried shrimp. The breast they use is super thick. About twice as big and thick as Chick-fil-a and Popeye's chicken sandwich. I think Mom's Touch put Popeye's out of business in South Korea. Popeye's is closing shop and exiting the country at the end of this year.

I renounce mayo anywhere and everywhere, every time.

Culver's is one of the few things I miss about the midwest :(

That honestly sounds way too thick for my liking, it would alter the bun/breading/meat ratio. I think the thickest I've had was Shake Shack, and that was pretty much at the limit.

My ex hated mayo and couldn't stand runny yolk eggs or even scrambled soft, which is insane. Runny yolks and soft omelets are the best.

I'm in the same boat, runny yolks are about as appealing as snot, and scrambled soft is edible at best.

Yeah that there is a sign of distress in your palate. Runny soft eggs are the best. As Bourdain says: Fave Way to Cook Eggs: a runny yolk, or soft runny eggs in any form is always good

My wife and daughter raved about Mom's Touch chicken sandwich after their trip to South Korea. They told me I had to try Mom's Touch chicken sandwich. So a year later when I visited Seoul with my wife, I went to Mom's Touch to check it out for myself. Mom's Touch was legit.

My visit to Mom's Touch in Seoul, SK, November 2019.

I also tried their fried chicken which was pretty good. But South Korea has so many great Korean Fried Chicken places so this didn't stand out. But the chicken burger was really good.

Holy cow at those Mom's Touch chicken sammiches... stacked so high it looks like a challenge to squeeze it into your face!

Yeah it's definitely not the moisture, texture, or consistency that keeps me away from scrambled soft or runny yolks...it's detecting that sulfur flavor. Kinda hard to get over that, heh.

FWIW though, two different friends that are trained chefs say the same...DON'T overcook your eggs, they should be wet for proper flavor unless hardboiled.

Fuggit, I scramble those bitches DRY. :p

I still have NOT try the new Poppeys' chicken sandwich yet.

I see a lot of people in this thread saying they hate it. You need to try it though and see, I think they're great. And imho any chicken sandwich becomes much better if you put some Mike's Hot Honey on it. That shit is legit as hell on everything I've tried it on.

Yes, the texture of many foods is problematic for me.

Damn. On the extremely unlikely chance I ever find myself in Seoul, I'm going to make sure I try this place.

since around April here in Ontario Canada we have been enjoying Lays Jalapeno & Cheddar chips. Then about 3 months ago I watched a US commercial introducing the same flavour there. Odd that we would get it before the US did.
