So the consensus seems to be this is worth the stock grab rather then waiting for the GotY edition?

I personally dont suggest it. It's what I've termed beautifully frustrating. AMAZING, but the weirdness kills it for now. Once the community mods the little things it should be absolutely incredible. My gripes though, and I think theyre worth waiting for a fix:

why am I using my right mouse button to block with the shield with my left hand, and why cant I PUT my shield in my right hand?? Why cant I center my camera when running without my weapon, or why cant I put it OFF center when I DO have my weapon out? A little consistency please. The UI is goofy and unnatural. It's seriously frustrating and the view issues are off-putting.

Once the issues are fixed by the community, I daresay this will be the best game ever released, but until then it's almost painful since you see the potential, but get so frustrated at the same time.

Been having some weird textures bugs last night. Like on the pathway in Whiterun when you entre by the main gate. The stones on the floor would not load properly. Same thing with water, had it once last week where it looked like it was missing the upper textures.

But a rig restart and it was ok.

I think it's the in-game AA that is messing up things in the game cause when I force the AA/AF with CCC, the game runs a little smoother and I don't have the occasionnal "thin blue line" around objects...

Oh and BTW, I hate those Saber Tigers beast...damn they hit hard!

Character I made...

Argonian Assasin w/ conjuration- Conjur my own blades...backstab enemies and then reanimate them to occupy enemies while I go to town.

I want to make a big 2h axer orc but it just seems like I'd be missing out on so much without much casting and going mostly melee/armor/enchanting...

I'm thinking of making ranged variation on the Argonian replacing him with a Khajit Archer w/ illusion and conjuration.

Question: Is the Block skill affect blocking with a weapon?

I'm currently mace+shield and i'm having lots of fun Shield bashing dudes in the face and blocking them but if i'm a 2hander or DW, will I block as effectively?

I'm curious if the Orc's Berserk racial ability works with bows/archery or just melee weapons. That said, I wonder if it works on damage-dealing spells, too.

Dual wield cannot block. 2 Hander can block, not as effectively as a shield though in my experience.

I am playing 2 hand greatsword character and it is a lot of fun. Find that I need to take more risks charging into battle than I do with a shield. Cracking enemies in the head to kill them with one swipe keeps me entertained.

By the way, your water looks AWFUL. (4th picture in your slide-show). It doesn't look that bad in reality, i would post screenshots too but i have no clue how to do screenshots!

I already added bAllowScreenShot=1 in my .ini...i press "PrtScreen"...but nothing happens...i dont see screenshots in my skyrim folder and i also cannot paste them into PSP after PrtScreen.

Since the game uses the steam overlay, steam has a built in screenshot capture with the f12 key.

i dont think this was scripted but i happened upon a dragon fighting a giant and an ice troll. I came in just at the end got the dragon soul then hauled ass because either of those would have killed me easily.

Lol, yeah I had a dragon knock off a cow and 2 ice trolls for me:D. I saw it circling so I decided to go up and investigate and stumbled upon a rather useful 'shrine' of sorts.

How far along do you have to be to start getting random dragon encounters?

I'm at level 11 and have visited High Hrothgar for the MQ, but haven't done any of the main quest beyond that. I still haven't seen a random dragon.

After you kill the first dragon then they start randomly appearing. It largely seems to occur during changing of areas but not always. I think it largely depends on where you are as well. I've fought a few, but a friend has had to fight over 10 and sometimes 2 at once.

same.

I started off as a sword/shield but found 2h's are far better and fun.

I spending a lot of time on side quest and exploring. Once i figured out how to set it so i can see mobs before they see me. it was annoying having the monster show up when its 2ft away. after adjusting it i can see them before they see me.

I do need a better bow or get better with it. i hate hitting a deer and it running off (hell even rabbits do that!).

I've got an amulet and a ring that each gives me a 15% bonus to sneak. In the active effets menu, they show separately. Can I presume they add up to 30% or is one redundant?

I just saw the funniest thing while venturing out in the wild...

A group of bandits decided to attack 2 giants who were at camp with a mammoth. The bandits stood in a line from far away, and one by one they went in to attack. The giants were killing each bandit with a single blow. When the last bandit when in to attack, one of the giants smashed down with his weapon and the bandit flew - literally, flew! - way up into the sky (higher than a dragon) and eventually came crashing back down!

Many a lol was had. :D

My +2h damage bonuses are displayed separately, but add up to the damage on the weapon (I'm at like 160 a swing :awe:). Put 2, on boots and gauntlets and bought a necklace = +94% more dmg with 2-handers. Will go higher once I redo the enchantments with more perks and pots! It ain't pretty for the receiving end :awe: And that's with swords, more of perks to add and an Ebony Greatsword.

So yes, I would say things stack for everything.

Here are some of my thoughts after playing for a dozen hours this weekend.

My first character was a dark elf. I was planning on making him a sneaky mage. Turns out that just didn't work well for me. Every encounter turned into strafe while shooting lightning and a simple hit or two would kill me. I couldn't open any locks because my lockpicking sucked. My sneak never seemed to level up and I put all my points into magicka. It just wasn't fun for me and I felt super weak. I didn't do any of the story line and just went straight to the college of mages and did their quests.

What really killed the mage for me was the super awkward method of choosing spells. I got so sick and tired of having to pause the game to change spells (because you can only equp 8 on the hot key and I had dozens of spells at my disposal).

So after feeling like I wasn't playing the right character for me, I went to my natural leaning to create a bosmer assassin. I'm level 12 now and I've put all my of my points into archery and sneak and it is 10x more fun. Combine this with the Voice powers (which felt somewhat redundant as a mage) and I feel like I'm getting everything I want out of the game. I've got my bow, sword and a few voice powers mapped to the hotkeys, so no more scrolling through endless useless spells. Now that I've got just about all the skill and archery points I wanted I'll start putting stuff into one of the spell skill trees like conjuration to round him out a bit more.

I've been trying that. It still only hits about 2/3rds of the time.
OK I figured it out. I was aiming at their feet hoping I can just cast one from right under them. :(
You actually have to aim directly at a surface.

I also got the 5x rune range perk so it's pretty darn reliable now.

I put in about 20 hours this weekend as a dark elf mage. I do agree with the spell changing. Man, that kills the action.

My sneak did go up a good deal, but I almost always walk around in sneak mode.

I started out throwing shock everywhere, but about partway I changed to a conjur/resto mage and found it enjoyable. I conjur my best fighter and kick back healing myself or my companion if I have one.

As to lockpick, not sure on that. I picked a ton of stuff, even a few master chests or whatever it's called.

Can't be the area, because I didn't progress much either (taking my sweet time with side quests). I was level 8 I think when I went to the college. If you're level 3-4 or something, that place would be a little tough I bet.

Of course, I always play mages, so perhaps I'm just used to it. Usually as a mage you have lots of power, but you can't sit there getting hit. You always have to wear the best armor you can and be strategic about fights.

Been playing the game as a Breton spellsword. Specializing in conjuration and enchanting has been really effective. My conjured blades hit quite hard, and they cast soul sucker (or whatever it is called), filling up any soul stones in my inventory. After I have 20 or 30 filled stones in my inventory, I go to dragon reach and enchant the heck out of whatever crappy weapons are in my inventory, which raises their value nicely.

I also saw my first random dragon yesterday when performing a sidequest that I received from a book. I spent ~25 minutes running from Whiterun to the quest location, killing a ton of foresworn on the way. upon reaching the quest location (on top of huge mountain), a dragon appeared while I was fighting the quest boss (and his 10 or so lackeys), and it saved my butt by killing most of the enemies I was fighting.

After playing at a friend's place I gave in and got it. Glad I did because it's quite a fun game. I'm a Dark Elf and I'm still not sure which way I'm going to go with it. I actually like dual wielding destruction spells right now. Though it may not be the best way to go in the long run so I may need to balance it with a melee style too. My thought would be sword/sheild but I'm not sure.
