The UI on this one will take some getting used to. I just finished the intro but I can see myself sinking a lot of time into this one.

I was quite impressed with the graphics, actually. It doesn't need/use the latest DX11, the appeal is the scenery looks incredible. Everything that should've been done with Oblivion was done in Skyrim. My setup as listed in my sig is able to handle the game on Ultra 1920x1200 8xAA 16xAF without too much trouble (VERY slight lag).

I noticed that, even though I'm sporting an AMD card, FXAA is an option. I actually did some screenshots, and it looks like FXAA by itself seems to net the most improvement. I DO NOT suggest MLAA unless you're sporting a higher card or Crossfire setup (assuming it's supported at this moment, I've heard otherwise). I can post the picture comparisons, but I need some sleep.

I love the UI and the graphics look stuning at 1080p/Ultra. I am happy

I've been running the game on 1080p/Ultra 8xAA 16xAF and it looks absolutely beautiful. I had so much fun in my first dungeon. Just absolutely gorgeous and pretty graphics. The soundtrack captures the moment very well.

I would play more but my bum is hurting from 4 hours of straight gameplay.

Gonna get some sleep and will play more tomorrow. :)

What do you use for screenshots? I found out that when I moved to Windows 7, Oblivion would no longer let me take screenshots (even though I enabled them in my .ini) because I'd get a windows permission warning. Some say though that if you install to another drive than C, the permission prompt won't appear.

I have a killer rig but a 30" monitor which means 2560x1600 I'm wondering if I will be able to play at this res?

Game runs pretty good on my setup. I didn't really care for the intro, was itching the whole time to get to the part where I could start exploring. So far I think my free time is booked. :)

Is skyrim closer to Morrowwind (which I really liked) or like Oblivion (Which looked a little too normal for me)?

If you have a computer that can run just about any other game from the past year or two at that resolution then I'd guess yes, especially if its Metro/Crysis/BF3.

I'm not sure what you mean exactly, but if I get the gist, I think it's somewhere in between. There's more of the unique races and artistic design and other things like Morrowind, yet it also has some of the traditional RPG/fantasy stuff like Oblivion except here it seems more Nordic than the English/Celtic (?) style that Oblivion had. I'd probably say it leans more towards Oblivion though.

:$ I haven't actually used my rig for much gaming.

Eh, no worries, my gaming interest comes and goes especially now that I rarely play multiplayer. This is the first game in a very long time that I'm really considering buying when it first came out. I was waiting to see how it'd run on my current system (Phenom II X2 and 6850 with a 1080p monitor).

I'm pretty sure you'll be fine. The bigger concern I'd have is if running that resolution would be worth it, as I don't know how well the textures scale up, so you might want to run say 1280x800 and crank up the settings and AA.

Yeah we will see :D

The next common 16:10 step down though is 1920x1200.

I never really care about FXAA because textures like bushes etc. get blurry and lose detail. (This why i run it on LOW in BF3, then it looks "ok" for getting rid of jaggies...but also in Skyrim some things look washed out if FXAA is on).

But the good thing about Skyrim is that you can use/force transparency antialiasing (with NV Inspector)...so i rather chose AA + Transparency AA instead of that "fake" and blurry FXAA. Jaggies get less and it looks overall "clearer" as opposed to FXAA.

cannot stand the controls at all..
played about 5 hours.

tried both K/M and X360 controller.. both are incredibly clunky.

hope the modders will solve this..

not being able to use K/M to its full potential is terrible.

and I do not want to play it with a gamepad.

Does anyone know a way to invert the y axis? My brain is now wired to play like that and if I can't I'm going to have to use a controller.

Edit: Nevermind. To invert the y axis you have to hit esc in game then go to settings -> gameplay. I don't know why they didn't have that on the main menu, it would've saved me 20 minutes of looking.

Go into third person view, and as long as your weapon isn't out the mouse will rotate the view around your character.

If its like any of the other games, hold down the key you use to go to third person and move the mouse around. You can pan all over your character.
