Nah. The Elder Scrolls games aren't really sequels to eachother. They take place in the same world within the same empire (Tamriel). The first 4 games occur in the reign of the same emperor but across a span of years. Skyrim takes place I believe 200 years past the end of Oblivion. I haven't even run across anyone making mention of the events of Oblivion. It's a completely stand alone story. And in truth, so far at least, the gameplay and story has been better in Skyrim than any of the previous Elder Scrolls games, even adjusting for the limitations of their time.

I have, several times. It's part of the prophecy of the Dragonborn.

The benefit to playing the previous Elder Scrolls is a better understanding of the world in the little things you pick up. And yeah, there are several Oblivion references.

**semi-spoiler if you have played Oblivion, not enough to place tags though**

For example, there's a woman in Skyrim that cultivates nirnroot and is the only person to do so. She claims inspiration (indirectly) from a character you did a quest for in Oblivion.

I have a question regarding a particular sword, the name escape my mind and I can't look it up since I'm posting this at work, but there's a sword in my inventory, The Fury something something. I try dropping it but game says it's a quest item and I can't drop/disenchant/sell the thing. It's a pretty cool looking 1H sword but my guy's a 2hander and the thing is eating up 12 pounds in my inventory and I can't do anything to get rid of it!

Is there any way to drop/delete quests and spells? I'm guessing no, had to wait for a mod for that in Oblivion, looks like the same with Skyrim.

That's another mod I'm waiting for. Custom spell making. :D

Hmm, maybe the console can be used to get rid of spells...

Edit: Yep, it can. player.removespell <spell id>

I've seen some Oblivion stuff mentioned. There is a book about Martin Septim I came across as the most recent example that comes to mind.

Thanks for the info bro. Speaking of Oblivion, there definitely are a lot of mentions of that in Skyrim. There is even a quest you take to collect relics from that time given by the a museum curator.

Also, seems like AMD Catalyst 11.11 is out, anyone willing to be a guinea pig and download the driver and see how the game performs, especially if Crossfire is fixed? :) Also, would you be so kind to make sure BF3 runs well in 11.11 as well.

I've been afraid to update drivers, still running 11.09--BF3 is stable for me but for Skyrim, I have to disable Xfire.

Not much difference, still waiting for caps. XFIRE performance is an insult to my HD 6870s. GPU clocks won't run past 70%.

BF3 keeps them at 99%.

I still can't figure out why I'm getting an extra +25% to my armor rating when I wear all dark brotherhood armor. My thieves guild armor has a higher total armor rating, but when I wear it I have an armor rating that is lower.

The DB armor is 51+15+15+23=104 but when I wear it I have an AR of 128.

The TG armor is 51+17+17+23=108 but when I wear it I have an AR of 106 (? doesn't add up).

There is a perk that provides a set bonus for all of the same type. Are you mixing light/heavy?

Oh man the story is pretty complex... took me several visits to the elder scrolls wiki to find out who the tharmor are, what the aldmeri dominion is, what the stormcloaks are about, what the big deal about talos is... I should've paid more attention in oblivion i guess :awe: Not that im complaining, love a deep universe!

I have 1040 bounty in palos and despite being on the imperial side i get attacked by random imperial soldiers, the ones in the camps dont bother me. Im assuming its because of this bounty ive no idea how i got. Is there any way i can get rid of bounty? Where do i go to pay it?

But does Xfire actually work with Skyrim now? Before I was getting really bad flickering and low frame rate, but disabling Xfire and running just 1 card gives me constant 60+ fps

And in regards to BF3, are you saying that both cards are cranking at 99%? How's the stability?

I have the +25% for wearing all light armor, but I don't have the +25% perk for wearing a matching set.

Both the thieves guild and dark brotherhood armors are light armor.

Now that I think about it, the problem isn't with the dark brotherhood armor, it's with the thieves guild armor. It's like the game doesn't recognize the thieves guild armor as light armor.

edit: it seems like the DB armor is the only armor that gives me the +25% from the custom fit perk.

If you enchant stuff then sell it you can make a lot of money. (Assuming you have many full petty gems laying around like I usually seem to)

I really haven't bothered turning off crossfire, the game has been playing perfectly fine as of late.

As far as BF3 goes, the cards are perfectly stable @ 99% load, but it's not like they run at 99% all of the time. Just gotta make sure to keep temperatures in check.

Quick note: AMDs 11.11 release notes don't mention anything about Skyrim so looks like we will have to wait for 11.12 for specific tweaks for Skyrim.

ok, just picked up my copy over the weekend and logged maybe a couple of hours on it. i'm a little worried that i've already screwed up. my main question is on skills/perks.

how many skills would you focus on? i'm planning on focusing on 8. alchemy, conjuration, illusion, archery, sneak, lockpick, pickpocket, and light armor. is that too many?

Well I just want the game to not flicker in crossfire, hate having to disable Xfire to play Skyrim and enable it to play BF3.

Not sure I can disable crossfire with my 5970. Either way I'm getting about 31-33 FPS average at 2560x1600 at high settings so I'm guessing it IS utilizing both GPUs. Would be nice to compare this to someone running two 5870s in crossfire at this res just to compare.

People keep trying to get in fights with me in bars, and I keep destroying them. They don't stand a chance. Is that because of my claws? I'm not a very high level, so I expect these fights to be more difficult.

I have no idea, but I don't think so as it just seems like a boxing match. Is pretty easy so I guess it's just suppose to be.

There might be other ways, but one way is to just talk to a guard. There will be an option to pay fine.

IIRC you stop getting perks at level 50 (but can still gain levels after that), so you can figure on about 50 perk points to spend. I wouldn't stress over it that much, especially on your first playthrough.
