The new Keurig Kold brewer?

$1.25 for an 8oz beverage? How is this in any way better than just buying a 12oz can?

The only good soda from a can is Throwback Pepsi, otherwise the can seems to mess up the taste.

I can almost understand the draw of Kold if you are getting a good fountain product, but this is still way too spendy.

I can see how this would save the companies billions in distribution while increasing profits crazy high. Its a good gamble for them and I must admit it is an elegant product. I would love to taste it to compare. If somehow it produced a better taste or if perhaps you could control the sugar content, with a lower price after the first push, I could see it making market share.

Whenever you Yanks talk about the price of food, I keep thinking "I really should just move to the States". Might get a 12 packs have been pushing $6 here regular price, even before the Dollar went in the crapper.

And it's difficult to source a machine since most are leased

You don't have to keep ice in the machines. They usually use a direct water line feed. They also normally have lines running out to where you want to put the syrup.

I thought the ice kept the plate (at the base of the ice bin) cold, and the water and syrup ran through that plate to dispense cold soda.

It's miserable to get soda at a store in a machine that is out of ice. Warm soda melts your ice faster, and then you get watered down, kinda flat soda.

I suppose you could plan for warm soda and set a strong mix that you intend to be watered down.

What problem are they trying to solve? I see nothing compelling about the product, it solves no problem.

The problem is that there are idiots out there with money, someone has to fleece them of it.

Heard from someone that worked in a fast food joint that said their drink fountain never really got cleaned, and at one point they had to take it apart and it was full of mold in it.

Would be more hassle than it's worth to have that at home really. I guess if you entertain a lot it could be cool but even then.

I don't know. No idea how they actually work in the inside. I figured a cold water line would actually be plenty, and you could just add the ice to a cup yourself from a freezer before you pour.

Seriously, though... I wonder what kind of DRM they are going to use on these soda pods to attempt to "prevent" cheap knock off pods, and how quickly we'll find a way to bypass it
