So, what do you guys think of the new Keurig Kold soda brewing machine?

http://www.keurig.com/content/kold-landing

The machine is $369, and the single serving soda pods are $1.25 each.

I think that the CEO was smoking crack when he came up with the initial price points for this product. I'm glad that I sold my Keurig stock a long time ago!

$ 0.1 distribution
$ 0.50 royalties to <soda company>
Remaining ~$0.51 cents profit to Keurig.

I get my carbonation ('bubbles' to you simple minded folks) from the Netherlands - it's a small town called Njarthuyst. They have an ancient technique that ensure 99.99% air is encapsulated in the carbonation.

My sugar is imported from Central America - where it is processed in the Alps - and then shipped on a private jet, then delivered by hand, to my front door.

And, the flavoring is helicoptered to my home each month. I can't reveal the sources, they are Top Secret.

I then use gold plated pipes and equipment to mix the ingredients. Also, the soda dispenser (or 'gun' as you plebs refer to it) is ivory crafted (by hand) and replaced every 90 days to ensure my soft drinks are of the highest quality.

How ANYONE would drink from aluminum (pronounced Alu-man-e-um), plastic, a restaurant and/or THIS MONSTROSITY is a sure sign of utter caveman and hill person behavior.

Seeing as I didn't care for the coffee makers and the inventor said that was a scam more or less, I'll pass.

What next, a Keurig Beanie Baby maker ?

Boutique soda is ~$6 a four pack. I'm sure the quality's better than anything that comes out of a K machine, and I don't have to make it.

Well, they finally did it. They made the SodaStream look economical. Guess the only real advantage here is you can get name brand syrups but it's way cheaper just to buy 12 packs.

I guess Keurig is trying to corner the entire non-recyclable drink container market.

lol 2 liters are $1 on sale a 6 pack is still cheaper than 2 of them and faster and it's cold if I just leave it in the fridge. I have no idea who would buy this.

The pod cost is what kills this product. One pod costs as much as a 2 liter bottle of soft drink.

Isin't it cheaper to just buy pop premade? It's not like coffee where you have to "make" it when you want it. With pop you just have it in the fridge and go grab one when you want to. A 12 pack of Pepsi is like under 5 bucks.

tangent: i am glad canadians also say "pop", which is the correct word, instead of "soda" or "coke" (shudder) like the coasts or the south do.

What problem are they trying to solve? I see nothing compelling about the product, it solves no problem.

Now you need this huge thing taking up counter space so you can drink an 8 ounce of Coke cola for 1.25 a serving? Oh and you need a reverse osmosis system if you want to prepare cola to at least taste like the real thing.

You can just buy the small Coke cans and stick them in the fridge. Time to prepare is just pop the top and pour the cola into the glass.

So basically you're saying the fly-over states have the corner on correct terminology? Kiss my toxic, super-fund butt. :colbert:

$1.25 for an 8oz beverage? How is this in any way better than just buying a 12oz can?

This thing might actually be useful once they get the cost of the machine down to $99, and IF they can get the cost of the pods down to 25 cents each.

Something tells me that we'll have to wait for the patents to run out before that happens. Until then, it's a toy for 1%'ers to get for Christmas as a stocking stuffer.

I think they are trying to capture the Sodastream market by providing two things you can't get with similar systems: carbonation without canisters, and brand-name flavors.

But it sure as hell isn't worth what they are asking. The tech to chill the water and carbonate it might be impressive, and the idea of being able to make small portions of whatever flavor you fancy without keeping a ton of 2Ls, cans, or other bottles on hand (to have the option of multiple flavors) is a nice one to have... but, they priced it out of the market for probably 99% of the market.

The buyers that may bite will likely be businesses, to have it available in the break area. In which case, that's an absolutely awesome idea. But it is going to be exceptionally rare that anyone wants it as a personal purchase.

edit:
Huh, imagine that, the machine isn't doing anything for carbonation. Each pod contains "Karbonator beads" which serve as encapsulated CO2 that is released during the mixing process.
This is terrible. But I want my next work place to have one in the break area dammit. :colbert:
